Job Description

Pay Rate: $27.00-$28.00 per hour

Work Shift: Tuesday-Saturday, 9am to 5 pm

Full-time benefits include:

Job Summary:

The Director of Wellness Programming plans, prepares, and directs the overall operation of the wellness program. This role oversees the wellness programming department and ensures operations in accordance with current federal, state, and local guidelines, standards, and regulations, as well as MBK’s established policies and procedures. This position is also responsible for ensuring that programs are designed to meet the individual, physical, and mental fitness, as well as the social and emotional well-being of each resident.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Interview, hire, train, set performance goals and timelines, monitor performance, and provide coaching for Wellness Programming Assistants and Drivers, as well as develop and train volunteers who are in the community to assist with activities or special events.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Comprehensive Wellness Programming Offerings Management

  • Create, implement, and lead resident programs according to program standards and resident preferences.
  • Create a full schedule of offerings with no less than five programs per day, seven days per week, in accordance with MBK wellness programming policy.
  • Oversee MBK's annual Living our Values programming theme.
  • Create and maintain social media under the umbrella of MBK’s Home Office.
  • Coordinate with other Team Members the planning and execution of special functions, such as holidays and celebratory events.
  • Conduct ongoing surveys of residents for feedback on programming.
  • Ensure Lifestyle Survey Interviews are conducted per MBK policy.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Health Services, Connections for Living Director, and Physical Therapy Partners to reinforce continuity of care.
  • Provide coaching and mentorship to department staff and volunteers.
  • Track volunteer participation and keep volunteer files per state regulations.
  • Arrange for outside vendors to conduct programs and process invoices promptly.
  • Oversee transportation of residents and provide backup transportation support, in the absence of a driver, ensuring residents have safe, timely, courteous, and reliable access to essential transportation services for medical appointments, community excursions, and planned programs.
  • Manage and track budget spending and goals.
  • Facilitate and conduct resident programs within Connections for Living, if applicable.
  • Aid in the community marketing efforts.
  • Alert care staff when there is a medical or care need of a resident.
  • Understand and comply with Federal, State, and local regulations, and company policies and procedures, including resident rights and transportation regulations.
  • Perform other job duties or special projects as assigned or requested.

Fitness and Movement Programming

  • Plan, lead, and evaluate group fitness classes tailored for older adults, with a focus on mobility, balance, strength, and cardiovascular health (minimum of three per day).
  • Design and implement progressive, safe, fun, and inclusive exercise programs that align with residents' physical capabilities and goals.
  • Support fall-reduction initiatives through movement-based programming.
  • Proactively recruit residents for personal training sessions with the expectation of maintaining a minimum of one session per day, five sessions per week, or twenty sessions per month.
  • Assist in evaluating residents’ functional movement needs as part of wellness intake or lifestyle survey processes.
  • Maintain accurate records of class participation, personal training sessions, and fitness-related programming outcomes.

Education and Licenses/Certifications Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED Required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in recreational therapy, gerontology, music, art or similar, preferred.
  • Activity Director certification, preferred.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification required.
  • Current Certified Group Fitness Instructor or Certified Personal Trainer credential (e.g., ACE, AFAA, NASM, ISSA) in good standing and maintained with CEUs, if required.

Experience Requirements (in years):

  • 1+ years of prior work experience in a similar environment or industry, required.
  • 1+ years of prior supervisory or lead working experience, preferred.

Required Competencies:  

  • Working familiarity with several special Microsoft Office Suite software programs (e.g., Publisher and Photoshop) is highly desirable.
  • Must complete required Background clearances, health screening, and provide negative TB test results within 7 days of employment (must be within the last 6 months).
  • Valid state-issued driver’s license and valid insurance for transporting residents, and willingness to qualify for and obtain the required class of license for company vehicles, as needed.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to speak, write, and read English, and must be comfortable with speaking in public settings and presenting to small groups.
  • Must possess the ability to always deal tactfully and professionally with personnel, residents, family members, and guests.
  • Must present a positive and professional image.

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

  • Must be mobile and able to perform the physical requirements of the job, including walking, bending, kneeling, squatting, pulling, reaching overhead, stacking chairs, repetitive motion, and demonstrate the fitness programs for the duration, which may last up to one hour, multiple times a day. 
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position or move around for up to 8 hours. 
  • Visual acuity to observe client movements and ensure safety. 
  • Manual dexterity for handling equipment and performing demonstrations. 
  • Able to move continually throughout the workday, in the community, and between neighborhoods, and set up and take down fitness equipment. 
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and push up to 250 pounds, as necessary.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle and transport passengers safely.
  • Ability to assist in the physical movement of residents during routine transfers and in emergency situations.
