Responsibilities:

The Director of Facilities reports to the Associate Vice President for Facilities, and will assume management responsibilities for the department in the absence of the AVP.  This position will assist in areas relating to the Atlanta campus as needed. The Director performs facility management that includes overall construction management, project design, planning, budgeting, for major/minor construction and renovation of university facilities.  This position also directs daily employee activities and project review for in-house Maintenance staff, Central Shipping/Receiving, Campus Services.  The Director of Facilities provides significant management oversight as well as direct daily oversite of activities as needed on Physical Plant contracts (e.g. HVAC repair/replacement and custodial activities).  This position ensures university compliance with all city, county, state and federal health, safety and environmental codes and standards in construction, maintenance and repair of the university facilities and equipment.  This position works with limited indirect supervision as well as independently when the need arises.  

Qualifications:

A high school diploma/GED and five years of prior progressively responsible experience in facility operations and management, which must also include significant construction management experience, are required. Candidates with a bachelor's degree in Construction/Facilities Management, Engineering, Architecture, Business Administration, or a related field are highly desirable.

Candidates must have a valid driver's license and be insurable by the university's carrier.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

• Knowledge of and ability to use various Microsoft Office Products.

• Knowledge of building construction and construction management.

• Experience managing budgets, contracts, and vendor relationships.

• Excellent communication, negotiation, and organizational skills.

• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.

• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

• Ability and flexibility for occasional evening or weekend work for emergency situations or project deadlines.
