Corporate Affairs Director, Cardiovascular (CV) Communications

What you will do

Reporting to the Senior Director, Cardiovascular (CV) Communications, the Corporate Affairs Director, Cardiovascular (CV) Communications will be an autonomous strategic leader for Amgen’s cardiovascular portfolio. This role will independently own the development and execution of global and U.S. communications strategies that support Repatha and prepare the organization for future cardiovascular launches, including olpasiran.

The Director will turn scientific data, business priorities and stakeholder insights into clear, integrated communications that advance Amgen’s leadership in cardiovascular disease. Working in close partnership with the Senior Director, this leader will set and deliver priorities for their portfolio, provide thoughtful counsel, and bring teams together to drive high-quality work at pace. The ideal candidate is a highly experienced, unflappable communications leader who can run the day-to-day with confidence while quickly mobilizing around high-stakes needs.

This position can be based remotely within the U.S.; however, the successful candidate must be willing to travel to the company’s headquarters in Thousand Oaks, CA.

Obesity communications are not directly part of this role and are led by a separate team at Amgen.

Responsibilities

• Independently lead the strategy and execution of global and U.S. communications for assigned cardiovascular priorities, including Repatha and launch readiness for olpasiran.

• Develop integrated, insight-led plans that connect scientific, business and reputation objectives across earned media, digital and social, advocacy, executive and limited internal communications.

• Serve as a strategic communications counselor to business partners, bringing sound judgment and clear recommendations on opportunities, risks and stakeholder engagement.

• Own the day-to-day leadership of the portfolio, triaging deliverables, while maintaining focus on the highest-value strategic priorities.

• Work with cross-functional teams and partners across Commercial, Medical, Value & Access, Government Affairs, Legal, Regulatory, Investor Relations and Corporate Affairs.

• Translate complex clinical, scientific and business information into credible, audience-relevant communications for patients, healthcare professionals, media, advocacy organizations, employees and other stakeholders.

• Use data, analytics, social listening and audience insights to sharpen strategy, optimize execution and demonstrate impact.

• Anticipate emerging issues and changes in the external environment, recommending timely actions and communications responses.

• Lead agency partners with clear direction, high standards and accountability for results; identify practical opportunities to use AI and other digital tools to improve the work.

Basic Qualifications

Doctorate degree and 4 years of communications or public relations experience

Or

Master’s degree and 7 years of communications or public relations experience

Or

Bachelor’s degree and 9 years of communications or public relations experience
 

In addition, the successful candidate will have:

• Ten or more years of communications, public relations, corporate affairs or related experience.

• Substantial biotechnology, pharmaceutical or healthcare communications experience, gained at a peer company and/or a healthcare communications agency.

• A proven track record of independently leading complex, high-visibility communications work in a matrixed environment.

• The ability to run day-to-day communications with confidence, exercise sound judgment under pressure and rapidly mobilize teams around priority or evolving needs.

• Strong strategic counsel, critical thinking and executive presence, with the ability to make clear recommendations amid ambiguity and competing priorities.

• Demonstrated ability to translate complex scientific, clinical and business information into clear, compelling communications for multiple audiences.

• Strong capability across integrated communications, including earned media, digital and social media, advocacy, internal and executive communications, and issues management.

• Exceptional written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, with a collaborative, proactive style and the confidence to influence across functions and geographies.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in cardiovascular disease communications and a strong understanding of the patient journey, clinical data and stakeholder landscape.

• Experience leading global and U.S. communications in partnership with commercial, medical and access teams.

• Experience using data, analytics and audience insights to inform communications decisions and measure impact.

• Demonstrated curiosity, creativity and a commitment to finding smarter ways to deliver impact.

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
