Position Overview

This position represents a precision capability insertion aligned to PCI's next phase of commercial maturity in the Advanced Drug Delivery (ADD) space. As part of a strategic expansion of commercial capability, this role is designed to accelerate growth within injectable device assembly by enhancing pipeline quality, improving Phase III capture rates, and strengthening PCI's ability to secure integrated clinical-to-commercial programs.

Operating as a solutions advisor and opportunity architect, this Product Sales Director (PSD) will function in close orchestration with Development & Manufacturing (D&M), Clinical Trial Services (CTS), and Commercial Sales teams, reinforcing a unified "One PCI" market approach while preserving existing account ownership structures. This is not a traditional sales role — Core Business Development teams retain opportunity ownership and transactional execution responsibilities, while the PSD enhances opportunity quality, technical credibility, and strategic positioning.

Position Mission

The primary objective is to increase PCI's share of high-value injectable device programs by influencing device strategy earlier in the product lifecycle. This role will serve as a targeted overlay resource focused on engaging device teams within pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical organizations developing injectable therapies.

Strategic Pillars:

  • Engage earlier at the Phase III inflection point where outsourcing decisions solidify
  • Position PCI as an integrated drug-device partner rather than a downstream assembler
  • Improve pipeline quality by targeting programs with clear commercial pathways
  • Strengthen cross-segment pull-through across D&M, CTS, and Commercial operations
  • Increase award size through integrated solution positioning
  • Expand lifecycle revenue durability via strategically positioned device relationships

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Strategic Business Development

  • Identify and generate high-value device-based opportunities across Clinical and Commercial business segments
  • Develop and articulate compelling device assembly value propositions that position PCI as an integrated lifecycle partner
  • Act as opportunity shepherd from identification through deal strategy, enhancing opportunity quality and win probability
  • Drive new business and cross-sell opportunities in partnership with territory sales counterparts
  • Influence device strategy early in the product lifecycle to shape integrated outsourcing decisions

Technical & Relationship Management

  • Partner with Business Development during client engagement to elevate technical credibility and demonstrate integrated capabilities
  • Support integrated solution packaging including scope definition, timeline development, and delivery model optimization
  • Maintain deep knowledge of PCI's service offerings, industry technology trends, and competitor capabilities in the ADD space

Client Engagement & Opportunity Management

  • Develop and maintain business relationships with injectable platform teams within pharma and biopharma organizations
  • Target combination product innovators and late-stage clinical programs progressing toward commercialization
  • Support customer site visits in coordination with Business Development
  • Participate in trade shows, exhibits, clinical seminars, and professional organizations to build market presence
  • Support bid-defense preparation and strategic positioning for high-value opportunities

Target Market Focus

This role will focus on account-agnostic hunting within:

  • Injectable platform teams within pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical organizations
  • Late-stage clinical programs (Phase III) progressing toward commercialization
  • Commercial technology transfer opportunities requiring integrated CDMO capabilities

Role Boundaries & Collaborative Framework

To maintain clarity and protect existing client relationships, this position is explicitly NOT designed to:

  • Serve as the account owner or replace Business Development leadership initially
  • Establish or manage device supplier relationships
  • Operate as traditional technical sales execution or independently submit RFP responses

Qualifications

Required Experience & Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and/or 10-15 years of related experience and training in pharmaceutical/biopharmaceutical business development, with demonstrated expertise in Advanced Drug Delivery or injectable device technologies
  • Proven track record of engaging and influencing decision-makers at pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical organizations, particularly within device and combination product teams
  • Deep understanding of injectable device assembly, drug-device combination products, and the pharmaceutical outsourcing landscape
  • Experience navigating complex, multi-stakeholder sales cycles within large pharmaceutical organizations
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills with proficiency in CRM systems (Salesforce experience strongly preferred)
  • Full professional proficiency: ability to speak, read, and write fluently and accurately on all levels pertinent to professional needs
  • High reasoning ability: capacity to solve practical problems and deal with concrete variables in situations with limited standardization; ability to interpret instructions provided in various forms

Business and Strategic Competencies:

  • Working closely with Technical Sales team on opportunity architecture skills — ability to shape deal strategy and identify integrated solution opportunities
  • Strong collaborative orientation with demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as part of cross-functional teams
  • Professional presence and executive maturity — ability to represent PCI at the highest organizational levels
  • Advanced multi-tasking and prioritization capabilities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment

Additional Requirements:

  • Willingness and ability to travel (up to 50% annually)

Indicators of Success

Performance in this role will be measured by strategic impact rather than activity volume, with emphasis on:

  • Growth in device-attached pipeline value and quality
  • Increased Phase III win rates for injectable device programs
  • Larger cross-segment deal sizes and integrated solution awards
  • Higher integrated award volume across D&M, CTS, and Commercial segments
  • Expanded lifecycle revenue capture and customer engagement durability
