The Opportunity

As a Digital Twin Engineering Intern, you will support the development of virtual representations of data lab spaces, equipment, and infrastructure using NVIDIA Omniverse and OpenUSD, the Universal Scene Description framework.

You will work with experienced engineers on clearly defined modeling, data integration, validation, and documentation tasks. The internship provides practical experience applying engineering knowledge to digital twins, 3D models, and facilities data in a multidisciplinary technical environment.

What You Will Do

• Support the development and maintenance of digital twins for data lab environments using NVIDIA Omniverse and OpenUSD.
• Create accurate 3D representations of lab spaces, equipment, and infrastructure from available engineering information.
• Convert and organize engineering and 3D data into reusable OpenUSD assets and consistently structured scenes.
• Integrate mechanical, electrical, and facilities infrastructure information into digital twin models.
• Compare digital models with engineering drawings, layouts, technical records, and physical environments to identify discrepancies.
• Work with engineers and other stakeholders to gather the information required to build and update digital models.
• Follow established modeling conventions, workflows, file-management practices, and documentation standards.
• Document digital twin assets, modeling decisions, data sources, and working methods so others can understand and reuse the work.
• Test digital twin scenes and assets, identify issues, and work with team members to investigate and resolve them.
• Communicate progress, questions, and technical challenges clearly and suggest practical improvements to digital twin workflows and virtual lab usability.

What You Will Bring

• Current enrollment in a bachelor's degree program in computer engineering, computer science, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, integrated engineering, or a closely related field.
• A foundation in engineering principles and an interest in applying them to digital representations of physical environments.
• Experience with, or a strong interest in learning, 3D modeling, simulation, visualization, or digital twin technologies.
• Ability to interpret basic engineering drawings, layouts, diagrams, or other technical documentation.
• An analytical approach to problem-solving and careful attention to accuracy and detail.
• Ability to organize assigned work, follow defined processes, learn unfamiliar software, and seek guidance when needed.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate with a multidisciplinary engineering team.

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with NVIDIA Omniverse or another digital twin platform.
• Familiarity with OpenUSD or other scene-description and 3D data formats.
• Experience with CAD or 3D modeling tools through coursework, university projects, personal projects, research, or a previous internship.
• Basic understanding of data centers, laboratories, building systems, facilities infrastructure, or related engineering environments.
• Exposure to scripting or programming, particularly Python.
• Experience with engineering models, simulation tools, automation, or visualization software.
