Position Overview

Hitachi Vantara is expanding its Engineering Data Center Lab infrastructure in Norman, Oklahoma as part of a multi-year consolidation of its U.S. engineering lab footprint.

We are seeking a highly experienced Data Center Infrastructure Engineer to serve as the senior onsite technical lead for Engineering Technical Operations in Norman.

This is a hands-on execution role. The successful candidate will perform infrastructure work directly while coordinating onsite activities, mentoring other personnel, supporting migrations and deployments, and serving as the primary onsite escalation point for complex technical issues.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as the senior onsite technical lead for Engineering Technical Operations activities in Norman.
• Perform hands-on installation, rack-and-stack, cabling, relocation, troubleshooting, repair, and decommissioning of enterprise infrastructure.
• Lead onsite execution of data center migrations, deployments, lab expansions, hardware relocations, and consolidation activities.
• Coordinate work across onsite engineers, vendors, facilities personnel, and remote technical teams.
• Provide technical direction and mentoring to other onsite infrastructure personnel.
• Troubleshoot server, storage, network, power, cabling, optics, firmware, and hardware connectivity issues.
• Support console access, BMC, iLO, iDRAC, IPMI, firmware updates, hardware validation, and remote-hands requests.
• Review implementation plans and validate rack space, power, connectivity, cabling, and deployment readiness.
• Maintain accurate rack elevations, asset records, equipment locations, cabling information, and operational documentation.
• Execute and support approved incidents, service requests, and change activities within established ITSM processes.
• Partner with Network, Systems, Storage, Product Services, Engineering, Facilities, and global technical teams.
• Develop and maintain operational procedures, implementation plans, runbooks, and infrastructure standards.
• Support capacity planning, vendor activity, inventory, shipping, receiving, and hardware lifecycle processes.
• Participate in planned maintenance and occasional after-hours activities as required.

Required Qualifications

• 10+ years of progressive experience in enterprise data centers, engineering labs, infrastructure operations, or similar environments.
• Extensive hands-on experience with enterprise compute, storage, networking, and physical data center infrastructure.
• Demonstrated experience leading data center migrations, deployments, consolidations, or major hardware installations.
• Strong troubleshooting skills across hardware, network connectivity, storage connectivity, cabling, optics, and firmware.
• Strong understanding of rack layouts, structured cabling, fiber optics, A/B power, PDUs, capacity, and equipment installation standards.
• Experience with enterprise Ethernet, Fibre Channel, and remote hardware-management technologies.
• Ability to interpret implementation plans, rack elevations, network diagrams, and infrastructure documentation.
• Experience working within incident, request, change, asset, and inventory management processes.
• Demonstrated ability to assess operational risk, work independently, and provide technical guidance to others.
• Strong communication, documentation, and coordination skills.
• Ability to safely install and move data center equipment.
• Ability to work onsite in Norman, Oklahoma.
• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent combination of education and substantial relevant experience will be considered.

• Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams.
• Microsoft Visio or similar diagramming tools.
• ITSM and work-management platforms such as:
  • Jira Software
  • Jira Service Management
  • Confluence
  • ServiceNow
• Experience managing incidents, service requests, change records, implementation tasks, and project activities through enterprise workflow systems.

As required by the equal pay and transparency acts, the expected base salary for this position is: $93K to $100K. The expected on-target earnings for this position is: $105K to $113K

The expected pay is determined based on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, depth of experience in the practice area. Employees are eligible to participate in Hitachi Vantara’s bonus/variable/commission pay programs, where applicable, and are subject to the program’s conditions and restrictions.
