As a Field Service Engineer [Customer Engineer] at Applied Materials, you serve as the direct liaison with customers, collaborating closely to install, maintain, and upgrade equipment. You'll use digital analytics for troubleshooting and apply basic diagnostic techniques to assess and address technical issues. Your responsibilities include performing preventative and corrective maintenance on various systems such as electrical, vacuum, mechanical, plasma, hydraulic, and gas systems. Additionally, you'll coordinate and communicate directly with customers to ensure smooth operations and exceptional service.
LTA Location: Bresden, Germany / Start from December, 2027
Key Responsibilities
Ensure compliance with safety and PIP, environmental protocols, and PIP
TSMC F24 installation, preventive and corrective maintenance, and upgrades of cutting-edge semiconductor equipment independently
Troubleshoot hardware issues, order and replace parts, and resolve FDC mismatches
Follow documented procedures and task plans to test and diagnose equipment
Participate in daily passdown meetings and follow task priorities and assignments
Answer lead, FSO and customer phone calls and participate customer and internal meetings upon need.
Follow TSMC 6S to maintain clean, organized workspaces
Clean Desk Daily to open and manage service cases and escalations based on CE KPIs
Support parts management, including ordering, tracking, and coordination with technicians
Collaborate closely with Germany CE teams and local PSE teams
Provide coaching and support to junior engineers and international colleagues
Represent Applied Materials professionally with a customer-first mindset
Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering (hardware-related preferred)
Ability to read electrical and mechanical schematics
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
Basic mechanical aptitude in pneumatics, hydraulics, electronics, vacuum, or thermodynamics
Familiarity with hand tools and digital multimeters
TOEIC score of 550+
2 yr+ TSMC fab experience is preferred
Work Environment & Expectations
Flexible work schedule, including weekends and shift work (not exceeding 60 hours/week or 12 hours/day)
Ability to lift 10–20 kg and work in cleanroom environments with full protective gear
Physical capability to sit, kneel, crouch, twist, stretch, and stand for extended periods
Participate in FSO on-call/on-duty rotations and support deinstall activities
Maintain mutual respect, trust, and teamwork across global CE teams
Escalate issues when junior engineers fail to report or when coaching is needed
Always strive to improve team skills and mindset—think forward and act proactively
