Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center (CMC) is seeking a highly motivated Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to join our growing Neurosciences Intensive Care Unit (NSICU) team. This is an exceptional opportunity to practice at a leading academic and tertiary referral center, providing advanced neurocritical care to patients with complex neurologic and neurosurgical conditions.

As an APP in the NSICU, you will work alongside expert neurointensivists, neurosurgeons, vascular neurologists, residents, pharmacists, nurses, and rehabilitation specialists to deliver evidence-based care in a high-acuity environment focused on innovation, collaboration, and outstanding patient outcomes.

Position Highlights

·         High-acuity Neurosciences ICU caring for patients with:

o    Acute ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke

o    Subarachnoid hemorrhage

o    Cerebral aneurysms and neurovascular emergencies

o    Traumatic brain injury

o    Status epilepticus

o    Brain tumors and complex neurosurgical conditions

o    Spinal cord injury

o    Postoperative neurosurgical patients

·         Collaborative multidisciplinary practice model

·         Exposure to advanced neuromonitoring and neurocritical care technologies

·         No call requirements

·         24/7 In-house Intensivist Support

Schedule

·         Rotating weekends and holidays

·         Inpatient Neurosciences ICU setting

Responsibilities

·         Perform comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and management of critically ill neurologic and neurosurgical patients

·         Manage patients with acute stroke, intracranial hemorrhage, cerebral edema, seizures, vasospasm, and other neurocritical illnesses

·         Monitor and manage external ventricular drains (EVDs), intracranial pressure monitoring, and other advanced neuromonitoring modalities

·         Interpret neurologic examinations, imaging studies, laboratory data, and physiologic monitoring to guide treatment decisions

·         Collaborate closely with neurointensivists, neurosurgeons, neurologists, residents, nursing staff, therapists, pharmacists, and ancillary services

·         Coordinate transitions of care and facilitate patient and family communication

·         Participate in quality improvement, research initiatives, education, and protocol development

Qualifications

Required

·         Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program

·         Current North Carolina NP or PA license, or eligibility for licensure

·         National certification (AGACNP, ACNP, or NCCPA)

·         Current BLS and ACLS certification

Preferred

·         Two or more years of experience in Neurocritical Care, Neurosciences ICU, Surgical ICU, Trauma ICU, or Critical Care

·         Experience managing EVDs, intracranial pressure monitoring, stroke patients, and postoperative neurosurgical patients

·         CCRN, SCRN, CNRN, ENLS, or other neurocritical care certifications

·         Experience in an academic or teaching hospital environment
