We're looking for a detail-oriented, hands-on Controller to lead our day-to-day accounting operations and help ensure the financial health and integrity of our organization as we continue to grow. As Controller, you will own the accounting function end to end — from monthly close and financial reporting to internal controls and compliance. You'll work closely with the financial team to provide accurate, timely financial information that supports sound decision-making across the organization. This is a great opportunity for an experienced accounting professional who enjoys both the technical rigor of the numbers and the process-improvement side of the role.
Responsibilities
- Perform full-cycle bookkeeping duties, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and bank reconciliations
- Match bank feeds and reconcile accounts in QuickBooks Online, including inter-company bookkeeping across related entities
- Manage AR (invoicing and payment processing) and AP (vendor correspondence and scheduling timely payments) -
- Process semi-monthly payroll using Wagepoint and Square
- Apply knowledge of HST and Input Tax Credits to ensure accurate tax filings and remittances
- Review and authorize staff expense reimbursements
- Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process and provide financial reporting, including P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow statements
- Develop and maintain internal controls and accounting policies to ensure GAAP compliance, and coordinate annual audits, tax filings, and regulatory reporting requirements
- Prepare budget-to-actual variance analyses and support annual budgeting and forecasting
- Maintain proficiency in QuickBooks Online and Excel, bringing a detail-oriented, organized approach to all financial record-keeping
- Partner with the CFO and department leaders through professional correspondence and team coordination, and identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes
Requirements
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards
- Proficiency with accounting software and advanced Excel skills; experience with ERP or cloud-based accounting platforms is a plus
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate financial data into clear insights for non-finance stakeholders
- High degree of accuracy, integrity, and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment while collaborating effectively with a distributed team
- Experience in the sports, nonprofit, or membership-based organization sector is a plus, but not required
Benefits
Compensation: $1,300-1,500 USD per month
