UK/IRE-trained specialists: considering a move to Australia?
I'm building a talent pool of UK/Irish doctors who hold a CCT/CCST and are open to relocating to Australia, across a range of specialties. We're working with health services across multiple Australian states, from major cities to regional and rural communities, and we're welcoming applications from all Medical and Psychiatry specialties.
Your route to AHPRA specialist registration as a SIMG depends on your specialty
1. Fast-track: Expedited Specialist Pathway
This route suits specialist GPs, anaesthetists, psychiatrists, obstetricians/gynaecologists, general paediatricians and general physicians from the UK or Ireland, with a few exceptions. If your qualification is on the Medical Board of Australia's accepted list and you meet the other specialist registration requirements, you can apply directly to AHPRA, with no college comparability assessment. Every qualification on the list has been assessed by the Australian Medical Council and approved by the Board as substantially equivalent to the Australian specialist qualification
2. Standard Specialist Pathway: all other specialties
If your specialty isn't on the expedited list, you apply to the relevant Australian specialist college for an assessment of comparability. The college's decision sets any supervised practice or further requirements before you can register as a specialist. It takes longer than the fast-track, but I'll guide you through each step.
Why Choose Australia?
- Exceptional lifestyle: world-class coastlines, sunshine, and outdoor living, from Perth and Adelaide to Brisbane, Darwin and Tasmania.
- Work/life balance: flexible working arrangements and a strong culture of professional fulfilment
- Choose your own timeframe: come on a fixed-term contract to see how you like it, or make the move permanent from the outset
- Fast-track registration: for eligible specialties, a much quicker route to specialist registration than the traditional college process
- Visa support: employers can sponsor visas, and I'll point you to the right route for you and your family
- Choice of location: metropolitan, regional and rural services across multiple states
What's on offer
- Salary: the range is wide and depends on specialty, state, seniority and sector. Public-sector specialist base salaries in Queensland roles currently advertised start at around A$320K and run to about A$521K. Full-time public posts are commonly quoted at A$350K–A$450K, with private practice potentially reaching A$800K. Allowances, on-call payments, rural loadings and private practice arrangements can take total packages well above base, so as a broad guide expect around AUS$360K to AUS$530K dependant on your Consultant experiecne.
- Superannuation and leave: Access to salary packaging, professional development allowance and a structured continuing education/study leave entitlement
- Support: relocation support, registration guidance and visa assistance throughout
What I can do:
- Talk through the market, roles and timelines in confidence
- Explain which registration pathway applies to you, step by step - This is hugely important as people applying to Australia need to know all the facts
- Match you with opportunities as they arise
No commitment, just a conversation about whether it could work for you.
