Construction Superintendent / Carpenter

Construction Superintendent/ Carpenter is responsible for supervising, overseeing, coordinating, and hands on work for all the carpentry work of the project according to project plans. Their duties include performing quality control, safety checks, providing on-site direction, and hands-on completion of the work being accomplished. They will need to complete each project within the budget and timeframe needed. They will be responsible for training and mentoring employees. This is a working position, in addition to their supervisory responsibilities, and they will also be responsible to perform the needed carpentry work required for each project.
The duties may also include training, mentoring, and onboarding of new hires and other shop employees. They may work in coordination with planning and requestors on timeframes and changes to each project. They may work with and coordinate sub-contractors as needed.
What you’ll do in this position:
- Supervision, Safety, and Project Management
- Construction and remodeling projects
- Respond to maintenance requests and repairs
- Required to complete all safety training.
- Respond to unscheduled daily shop requests which vary in nature and urgency.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Carpenter Shop Management.

What qualifies you for this role:
Required
- A firm commitment to the mission of BYU
- Two years’ Journeyman Carpentry experience or equivalent required
- Has excellent interpersonal, communication, organization skills
- Ability to read and understand building plans with a knowledge of building codes and regulations.
- The ability to maintain a good working relationship with all involved personnel, including treating others with respect and kindness
- Has a valid Utah Drivers' LicenseAbility to pass a physical and lift test.
Preferred
- Five years of Journeyman Carpentry experience
- Advanced carpentry skills and knowledge
The physical working conditions include the following requirements:
- Physical Effort - Moderate – Physical effort represented by frequent handling of medium weight objects (approx. 20-50 lbs.) and materials, or use of medium weight hand tools. May require climbing and working from ladders or in awkward positions.
- Frequent handling of building materials and equipment weighing 20-100 lbs.Environment - Periodic exposure to unfavorable conditions because of unavoidable need to be in variable temperatures or wet environments.
- Exposed to noise, sawdust, dirt, and dust.Hazards - Moderate existing or potential hazards. Use of a variety of hand tools, carpentry power tools, and equipment. Climbing ladders. Working on knees and in cramped quartersundefined

Typical Starting Pay: $59,500 to $87,000
