We're looking for an experienced Compliance Advisory Manager to join our Compliance Team and play a pivotal role in supporting the Bank's growth and strategic ambitions. This is a highly visible, business-facing role where you'll provide expert regulatory advice, constructive challenge and trusted guidance across products, customer journeys and business activities.
This role is based in Basingstoke on a hybrid basis, working 3 days in the office and 2 days from home.
The role and what you’ll deliver:
You will act as a trusted second line adviser to the business, helping to ensure regulatory requirements, conduct expectations and good customer outcomes remain at the heart of decision-making across the Bank.
Compliance Advisory & Regulatory Risk Management
- Provide expert Compliance advice and constructive challenge across our consumer credit, mortgage and savings businesses, including deposits and ISA products.
- Act as a trusted adviser on FCA regulatory requirements, Consumer Duty, conduct risk, product governance, complaints, vulnerable customers, financial promotions and customer communications.
- Interpret regulatory requirements and FCA guidance, translating expectations into practical, commercially aware solutions.
- Review and challenge policies, procedures, customer journeys, operational processes and controls to support regulatory compliance and positive customer outcomes.
- Identify emerging regulatory and conduct risks, agreeing proportionate mitigation actions and escalating material concerns where appropriate.
- Support stakeholders in making informed, risk-based decisions whilst maintaining compliance with regulatory expectations.
Financial Promotions & Customer Outcomes
- Review and approve financial promotions and customer communications, ensuring they are clear, fair, not misleading and compliant with applicable regulatory requirements.
- Provide specialist guidance on Consumer Duty, fair value, foreseeable harm and customer understanding considerations across products and services.
- Support the design and delivery of customer journeys, communications and processes that achieve positive customer outcomes.
- Challenge business proposals where regulatory or conduct risks are identified, helping stakeholders develop effective and compliant solutions.
Regulatory Advice & Business Change
- Provide Compliance subject matter expertise and regulatory guidance on business initiatives, projects and product developments.
- Assess regulatory implications of proposed changes and provide pragmatic advice to support compliant implementation.
- Review customer outcome assessments, risk assessments and governance documentation, providing independent challenge where required.
- Support stakeholders in understanding and applying regulatory requirements throughout the change lifecycle.
- Ensure Consumer Duty, conduct risk and customer outcome considerations are appropriately reflected in business decisions.
Governance & Stakeholder Management
- Prepare regulatory analysis, impact assessments, Compliance opinions, committee papers and management reporting.
- Support regulator-facing activities, including information requests, thematic reviews and remediation programmes.
- Maintain robust records of Compliance advice, approvals, challenge and decisions to support strong governance and auditability.
- Build effective and trusted relationships across the Bank, providing balanced, pragmatic and commercially aware challenge.
- Deliver Compliance training and awareness initiatives to enhance regulatory understanding across the business.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement and maturity of the Compliance function.

We're looking for someone who combines strong regulatory knowledge with a pragmatic, solution-focused approach. You'll be confident influencing stakeholders at all levels, providing effective challenge where required whilst helping the business deliver good customer outcomes and achieve its strategic objectives.
In addition, you will have the following experience:
Essential
- Significant experience within a UK regulated financial services environment, ideally covering mortgages, consumer credit, savings, deposits and ISA products.
- Strong Compliance Advisory experience within a second line Compliance function.
- Detailed knowledge of FCA regulatory requirements and expectations, including Consumer Duty and conduct risk frameworks.
- Strong understanding of relevant FCA Handbook requirements, including MCOB, CONC, BCOBS, DISP, PRIN, PROD and financial promotions requirements.
- Experience supporting Product Governance, product development and customer outcome assessments.
- Ability to interpret complex regulatory requirements and apply them pragmatically to products, customer journeys, communications and operational activities.
- Experience reviewing and approving financial promotions.
- Experience providing effective challenge whilst maintaining strong stakeholder relationships.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence at all levels.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
Desirable
- Experience within a retail bank, specialist lender or consumer finance organisation.
- Knowledge of SM&CR and conduct risk management frameworks.
- Experience supporting interactions with the FCA, including thematic reviews, information requests or regulatory remediation activities.
- Experience preparing Board, Executive Committee or governance committee papers.
- Professional Compliance qualification (ICA, CISI or equivalent).
