Whether you’re just starting out or switching careers, the Machinist Apprenticeship Program at Collins Aerospace provides a launchpad to long-term success in the skilled trades. We don’t just train apprentices — we develop future leaders in manufacturing. We are currently seeking a Machinist Apprentice to join our production team. This entry-level position is ideal for individuals with strong mechanical aptitude who are eager to learn and grow in a fast-paced, technology-driven environment.

 

At our Collins Aerospace Colorado Spring site, we produce Pilot, Co-Pilot, and Crew Member seats for major aerospace customers, including Airbus, Boeing, Embraer, and Bombardier.  Our machine shop supports the site’s strategy by focusing on the manufacture of legacy OEM, Aftermarket and Military components. 

 

What You Will Do

• Assist in the setup and operation of manual and CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines
• Learn to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and schematics
• Measure and inspect parts using precision tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers, gauges, etc.)
• Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of machines and tools
• Follow safety protocols and best practices in a shop environment
• Document work accurately and support quality assurance processes
• Attend classroom training (if part of a registered apprenticeship program)
• Receive ongoing coaching and mentorship from experienced machinists
• Participate in troubleshooting and continuous improvement activities
• Support general shop operations and contribute to team success

 

Qualifications You Must Have

• Typically requires HS diploma (or equivalent, e.g. G.E.D. in the US) or vocational/technical education in related discipline
• Candidate must enrolled in the CNC Apprenticeship program with Pikes Peak Community College in a relevant course focus.

 

 

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with measurement equipment, i.e. gauges, calipers, etc.
• Experience with basic hand tools
• Basic computer skills and ability to learn and use multiple computer applications (including email, internet, and other job-specific applications)
• Basic math skills, including adding and subtracting decimals
• Experience reading, interpreting, and following blueprints
• Reliable attendance, a positive attitude, and a willingness to learn
• Ability to work safely and follow detailed instructions
