Summary of Job Duties:
The Department of Pathology Pine Bluff Laboratory Supervisor is responsible for a broad range of activities that are critical to the functioning of the department. The objective of this position is to ensure support to the Clinic, CLIA Lab Director and manager related to Laboratory and Pathology and Radiology. This support includes a wide array of activities to ensure day-to-day operations go smoothly and that information that enhances integration and communication is shared and exchanged. The position requires a wide degree of judgement to successfully enact its duties.The Lab Supervisor must have the ability to set goals, prioritize completing demands, be an efficient task manager and communicate effectively with all levels of personnel, demonstrate highly effective interpersonal skills by maintaining good working relationships with all programs and divisions within the department and LPS. Additionally, the supervisor must make effective use of organization resources and demonstrate skills as a system thinker. Must have the ability to plan, coordinate and execute while working independently. The supervisor is required to demonstrate complex problem-solving skills by anticipating, analyzing, interpreting and solving problems within accordance with the mission and goals of the Department of Pathology and the broader institution. Must maintain confidentiality of highly sensitive strategic and personnel-related information.
The purpose of this position is to oversee the day-to-day operations of the Pine Bluff Laboratory that includes active supervision of technical staff, performing moderate complexity testing procedures and ensure all approved policies and procedures are implemented and are followed by staff. Ensure proper documentation of deviations, initiate investigations and assist Quality Assurance in evaluating possible causes, identify corrective actions and assist in timely implementation. Must be trained in all testing procedures and be competent on all bench areas to provide coverage when needed. Coordinate all daily laboratory and radiology activities including but not limited to scheduling, workflows, inventory management, new testing evaluation and implementation, ensuring instruments and testing platforms are maintained and work properly for patient testing, that all QA and QC is performed and acceptable before patient testing occurs, ensures that all CLIA and other regulatory requirements are met. In addition, the supervisor will assess ongoing competency of staff, oversee training of new employees, institute coaching and disciplinary actions as appropriate with guidance of HR and department manager, and write and revises policies and procedures following proper protocols. Must be able to adapt and adjust departmental workflows in response to changing demands to meet patient needs. Must maintain frequent and timely communication with laboratory leadership, nursing and infection prevention staff to ensure flow of information.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences, Medical Technology, or other ASCP approved discipline
- Two (2) years of lead clinical laboratory experience.
- MLS/MT ASCP certification or equivalent
- Experience with CLIA requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Five (5) years general laboratory experience with current instrumentation
- Experience with COLA, LIS systems, Microsoft Office programs, inventory control. Experience with pulling data and creating reports.
