About the Role

The Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center⁠ is seeking a visionary and collaborative leader to serve as its next Chief Pharmacy Officer (CPO). Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Clinical Systems and Infrastructure and Deputy Chair Department of Medicine. The CPO serves as a key member of the executive leadership team, providing strategic oversight for all pharmacy services across the enterprise while advancing Roswell Park’s mission of delivering world-class cancer care, groundbreaking research, and exceptional patient outcomes.

This executive leader will shape the future of pharmacy services by driving innovation across clinical operations, specialty pharmacy, medication safety, formulary management, research, education, and business strategy. Working in close partnership with physicians, nursing leadership, researchers, and operational executives, the CPO will ensure the highest standards of medication management while positioning pharmacy as a strategic contributor to organizational growth, quality, and innovation.

What You’ll Do

• Provide executive leadership and strategic direction for all inpatient, outpatient, specialty, clinical, and research pharmacy services across the enterprise
• Develop and execute a long-term strategic vision that advances pharmacy practice, operational excellence, patient safety, and innovation
• Lead all pharmacy programs including clinical services, medication distribution, drug information, specialty pharmacy, formulary management, research, education, and business operations
• Partner with executive leadership, physicians, nursing, and operational leaders to optimize medication management throughout the organization
• Oversee formulary development, medication-use policies, and enterprise-wide pharmaceutical stewardship initiatives
• Champion medication safety, regulatory compliance, accreditation readiness, and continuous quality improvement initiatives
• Foster innovation through technology optimization, automation, specialty pharmacy expansion, and evolving models of pharmaceutical care
• Support and strengthen clinical research and investigational drug services that advance Roswell Park’s academic and scientific mission
• Promote pharmacy’s role in multidisciplinary patient care, clinical decision-making, and value-based healthcare delivery
• Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing leadership team while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, professional growth, and engagement
• Build strong partnerships with faculty, researchers, department leaders, industry partners, and external stakeholders
• Ensure compliance with The Joint Commission standards, New York State regulations, federal requirements, and evolving best practices in pharmacy
• Advance a culture grounded in High Reliability Organization principles focused on safety, transparency, continuous improvement, and exceptional patient care

The Department of Pharmacy at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center⁠ plays a critical role in delivering comprehensive oncology pharmacy services across inpatient, outpatient, infusion, specialty pharmacy, investigational drug, and medication safety programs. Pharmacy leaders work collaboratively with clinicians, researchers, and operational teams to support precision medicine, clinical trials, advanced therapeutics, and innovative models of pharmaceutical care.

What You’ll Bring

• Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or equivalent advanced pharmacy degree with qualifications consistent with executive leadership in academic healthcare
• Progressive executive leadership experience overseeing complex health system pharmacy operations
• Demonstrated success developing and executing strategic initiatives across clinical, operational, financial, and research domains
• Deep understanding of oncology pharmacy, specialty pharmacy, medication safety, formulary management, and regulatory compliance
• Experience leading multidisciplinary teams within complex academic medical centers or integrated health systems
• Executive presence with the ability to influence, inspire, and build trust across executive leadership, physicians, faculty, boards, and external partners
• Proven ability to lead organizational transformation, operational excellence, and innovation while maintaining a strong focus on quality and patient outcomes
• Passion for developing future pharmacy leaders through mentorship, education, and succession planning
• Outstanding communication, relationship-building, and change management skills
• Commitment to fostering a culture of inclusion, accountability, collaboration, compassion, and continuous improvement grounded in High Reliability Organization principles

Qualifications:
Required Education and Experience

License Requirement
License to practice as a Registered Pharmacist in the State of New York or eligible through reciprocity.

Education and Experience
1) Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy degree and six (6) years of leadership experience as a Director of Pharmacy, Associate Director of Pharmacy or Assistant Director of Pharmacy in a large community or university teaching hospital or healthcare system; or
2) Master's degree in Business Administration or HealthCare Administration and six (6) years of leadership experience as a Director of Pharmacy, Associate Director of Pharmacy or Assistant Director of Pharmacy in a large community or university teaching hospital or healthcare system

Qualifications:

Recognized licensure, if required, to perform the functions of the position.
Education and Experience
1. Doctoral degree and the equivalent of three (3) years of progressively responsible senior-level experience including eighteen (18) months experience in a supervisory, administrative, consultative, managerial or executive capacity; or
2. Master’s degree and the equivalent of five (5) years of progressively responsible senior-level experience including eighteen (18) months experience in a supervisory, administrative, consultative, managerial or executive capacity; or
3. Bachelor’s degree and the equivalent of seven (7) years of progressively responsible senior-level experience including eighteen (18) months experience in a supervisory, administrative, consultative, managerial or executive capacity; or
4. Any combination of education/experience/training that demonstrates the ability of the individual to perform executive-level duties and fulfill the responsibilities of the Senior Executive Director. However, all candidates must possess a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree and have the equivalent of at least eighteen (18) months’ experience in a supervisory, administrative, consultative, managerial or executive capacity; stated in 1, 2, or 3 above.

Degrees must be conferred by an accredited school, college, or university, or by an institution recognized by Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center and/or Health Research Incorporated as adhering to acceptable educational standards.
