The Role

We are hiring an innovative Chief Growth Officer to drive a step-change increase in Evidence Action’s impact. This full-time role reports to the CEO.

This is a rare moment to join a high-impact organization at an inflection point. While much of the global health sector has retracted since 2025, Evidence Action has strengthened its position — receiving increased support in 2025, participating in a new collaborative fund structure to accelerate the growth of one of our most promising programs, and heading into 2027 anticipating tailwinds for cost-effective giving. Over the past two years we have been professionalizing our fundraising function with real results: we are on track to more than triple our number of new high-net-worth individual supporters and expand our institutional partnerships year over year. The CGO who joins now will shape the function, the strategy, and the story — at precisely the moment the market is moving in our direction — all for the purpose of preventing deaths we already know how to solve.

You will oversee fundraising, communications and thought leadership across retail and major individual donors, strategic foundations, and institutions, in close partnership with our programmatic and operations teams. You will develop fundraising theses and collaborative funds for both new and growing programs and ensure all strategies and resources are appropriately aligned. Since 2017 we have raised $230M+ from GiveWell and have roughly doubled our other sources of funding — and we are on track to raise $60M this fiscal year a strong base from which your team — a strong base from which your team will drive the next order of magnitude of growth.

The ideal candidate is a proven closer with a strong track record of personally cultivating and closing seven-to-eight-figure relationships, has deep analytical instincts, and the ability to build and develop a high-performing team. The strongest candidates will come from major gifts and/or private institutional fundraising. We are also open to exceptional candidates from the private sector whose growth or business development work was relationship-driven and involved sophisticated, analytical counterparts — particularly from tech or finance. What matters most is a demonstrated ability to build trust through sustained cultivation and stewardship, a data-informed approach to pipeline development, and genuine excitement about making the case for cost-effective global health.

Responsibilities

Own the roadmap, vision, and execution of scaling donations across:

Individuals fundraising: Drive a major influx of capital from high-net-worth donors with the potential to make 6-8 figure gifts, building the pipeline, strengthening the donor community, and personally closing transformational gifts, while overseeing the broader individual donor funnel from retail to HNW, reaching new audiences with Evidence Action's impact and deepening ties with existing supporters.
Institutional fundraising: Partner with program teams on scaling our work across strategic foundations and major institutions, and advocate across the sector for evidence-based development
Communications, press, & website: Oversee Evidence Action’s brand voice and narrative, finding the most interesting and differentiating content - from stories about our work with fluid dynamics engineers in India to partnering on events with Nobel Prize-winning Economists
Donor analytics: Oversee analytics infrastructure and reporting

Manage existing team of 10 employees
Serve on an 8-member executive leadership team of 900+ person organization
Be a passionate advocate and spokesperson for Evidence Action's mission and approach, in meetings with donors and partners, press interviews, and conferences
Drive organization transformation, training team members on best practices in fundraising and relationship management
Establish and/or refine existing systems to ensure meaningful scale, including analytics infrastructure, donor pipelines, Salesforce tooling, and more

Requirements

15+ years of professional experience; most candidates will have 10+ years in fundraising with a proven personal track record of closing significant gifts or partnerships. We will also consider exceptional candidates with equivalent relationship-driven growth or business development experience

Experience growing pipelines of $30M+
Experience leading top performing teams (5+) and developing team members
Creativity in execution - you see opportunities that others don’t, iterative approach to testing and validating tactics
Curiosity with a passion for “the close" (persistence in converting prospects into donors)
Utilizes a strong prioritization framework
Provide timely and actionable feedback to others; proactively solicit feedback and iterate
Comfort with AI, data analysis and Excel

Position Location

This is a US based remote role, a preference for a home base in the San Francisco Bay Area or New York City. Our US office is in Washington, DC. The role requires approximately 20% travel, both nationally and internationally.

Pay and benefits will be commensurate with the role specifications, local statutory requirements, and the cost of labor in the markets where we operate.

The US pay range for this role: $230,000 - $270,000.

Our Dispensers for Safe Water program provides sustained safe water access to over 4 million people in rural Kenya, Uganda, and Malawi. Our last-mile delivery network services communities through a free-to-use, human-centric design that increases usage over 5 times that of traditional water treatment options, preventing childhood illness and deaths caused by unsafe water. Dispensers for Safe Water has been recognized by Charity Navigator for its high cost-effectiveness, by Expo2020 as one of only 25 Global Best Practice Programmes, and a chlorine dispenser now resides in the Nobel Museum, selected by 2019 Nobel laureate Michael Kremer – whose work was integral to the program’s development.
