Risk Management is responsible for developing and deploying the risk frameworks to allow the Group to take conscious exposures to credit, market, operational, compliance and insurance risks within a Board-approved appetite.
Risk Management has policy teams that specialise in credit, market, operational, compliance and insurance risks as well as business unit facing teams. These areas collaborate with each other and specific areas within the Group to implement the Risk Management frameworks
Group Financial Risk establishes the frameworks, policies and risk appetite that govern the Group’s credit portfolio including portfolio oversight and capital modeling. Within the Capital and Provisioning Modelling Crew, the Chapter leads the development of probability of default, loss given default and exposure at default models, plus provisioning and stress-testing models across retail and non-retail portfolios.
Do work that matters
Reporting to the Chief Credit Officer and a member of the Group Financial Risk Leadership Team, this General Manager level role will lead credit risk model development and advanced analytics across CommBank, Bankwest and ASB, shaping model strategy, strengthen risk and regulatory outcomes, and building enterprise modelling capability.
This role leads a team including:
- Chapter Lead, Retail Models
- 3 Chapter Leads covering Non-Retail Models
- Chapter Lead, Credit Risk Modelling Data
Your key accountabilities will include:
- Leading the strategy, design and delivery of credit risk models and advanced analytics for capital, provisioning and stress testing across the Group.
- Ensuring models are effective, well governed and responsive to business, Board, committee and Australian Prudential Regulation Authority expectations.
- Shaping the modelling roadmap by applying industry practice, emerging data, technology strategy and relevant artificial intelligence and machine learning advances.
- Embedding model-led risk and return thinking, translating complex analysis into clear advice that improves business decisions and customer outcomes.
- Lead Chapter Leaders across retail models, non-retail models and credit risk modelling data, creating shared purpose, strong performance and development pathways.
- Deliver strategic, operational and transformation priorities to agreed cost, time and quality standards, while continuously improving processes and ways of working.
- Role model a strong risk culture, maintain effective controls and compliance, and build trusted relationships across the Group, industry and regulatory stakeholders.
We’re interested in hearing from people who
- Demonstrated capability in a senior leadership role, specifically in modelling methodology and leading a modelling team and extensive regulatory engagement experience.
- Deep and broad knowledge of Credit Risk model development, data, methodologies, risk management policies and governance frameworks.
- Excellent leadership capability: role model exemplary leadership behaviours, including leadership of risk culture and ability to create a vision and build shared purpose.
- Talent development and development of high-performance team cultures.
- Managing complex projects and organisational change management.
- Global banking markets including having a broad awareness of industry conditions and the competitive and regulatory landscape impacting banking businesses globally.
- Independent risk decision making including well developed commercial acumen skills.
- Stakeholder and customer management including strong influencing skills.
- Knowledge of Basel III and bank capital management.
- Understanding of Agile work practices and ability to operate effectively in an intertwined matrix way of working environment.
