Business Analyst III – SAP FICO

Join Thermo Fisher Scientific, the world leader in serving science. As a Business Analyst III – SAP FICO, you will serve as a functional subject matter expert for SAP Finance and Controlling solutions and help bridge business needs with scalable, sustainable technology solutions.

You will partner with Finance stakeholders, IT teams, and technical teams across our global organization to understand business requirements, analyze processes, identify opportunities for improvement, and design solutions supporting Finance and Controlling business processes.

You will lead functional activities for projects, enhancements, and system changes throughout the solution lifecycle—from requirements gathering and solution design through configuration, testing, deployment, and post-go-live stabilization. You will also support complex production issues, drive continuous improvement, and ensure effective integration between SAP FICO and other SAP modules and enterprise applications.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as a functional subject matter expert for SAP Finance and Controlling processes, including General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Asset Accounting, Cost Center Accounting, Profit Center Accounting, Internal Orders, and related financial processes.

• Partner with Finance and business stakeholders to understand requirements, identify process and system gaps, and translate business needs into scalable SAP solutions.

• Design and configure SAP FICO solutions aligned with business requirements, enterprise standards, and SAP best practices.

• Lead functional design activities for assigned projects, enhancements, and system changes.

• Evaluate solution alternatives and provide recommendations considering business value, system impact, scalability, supportability, controls, and integration dependencies.

• Develop detailed functional specifications for enhancements, interfaces, reports, conversions, workflows, and other technical developments.

• Provide functional leadership for integration between SAP FICO and other SAP modules, including Sales and Distribution (SD), Materials Management (MM), Production Planning (PP), and related enterprise applications.

• Support Finance integration with upstream and downstream applications and processes, including interfaces, data flows, and financial postings.

• Lead functional analysis and resolution of complex production issues, including root-cause analysis, solution development, testing, and implementation.

• Coordinate with developers, integration teams, infrastructure teams, Finance users, business teams, and external partners to resolve cross-functional and technical issues.

• Lead or coordinate functional activities across the system development lifecycle, including requirements gathering, solution design, system configuration, unit and integration testing, User Acceptance Testing (UAT), defect management, data migration and validation, cutover, and post-go-live stabilization.

• Develop and review functional and system documentation, including functional specifications, configuration documentation, process documentation, test scenarios and scripts, cutover documentation, and user support materials.

• Provide Level 2/Level 3 functional support for SAP FICO applications and ensure timely resolution of incidents and service requests.

• Identify and drive opportunities for process simplification, automation, standardization, and continuous improvement.

• Assess the impact of proposed system changes across Finance processes, SAP modules, interfaces, controls, and downstream applications.

• Support SAP upgrades, S/4HANA initiatives, global template deployments, and transformation programs as required.

• Work effectively with global and cross-functional teams to deliver solutions across different business units and geographies.

• Provide functional guidance and knowledge sharing to junior analysts, support teams, and business users.

• Ensure solutions and changes follow established IT governance, security, change management, documentation, quality, and compliance standards.

REQUIREMENTS

• Advanced Degree plus 3 years of relevant experience, or Bachelor’s Degree plus 5 years of relevant experience in Information Technology, Finance, Accounting, Business, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.

• Typically 5–8 years of relevant SAP FICO functional experience, including implementation, rollout, enhancement, and production support experience.

• Strong hands-on experience with SAP Finance and Controlling configuration and end-to-end financial processes.

• Strong functional knowledge of core SAP FICO capabilities, including General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Asset Accounting, Cost Center Accounting, Profit Center Accounting, Internal Orders, and financial closing processes.

• Strong understanding of integration between SAP FICO and other SAP modules, particularly SD, MM, and PP.

• Experience developing functional specifications and working closely with ABAP developers, integration teams, and other technical resources.

• Experience leading functional activities through requirements, design, configuration, testing, cutover, and post-go-live support.

• Experience troubleshooting complex SAP functional and integration issues and performing root-cause analysis.

• Experience with at least one full-cycle SAP implementation, major rollout, or transformation program.

• Experience with data migration, interfaces, reporting, and integration technologies such as IDocs, file transfers, web services, and APIs.

• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

• Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to facilitate requirements, solution design, and problem-solving discussions with business and technical teams.

• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical audiences.

• Ability to independently manage complex functional assignments, priorities, and deliverables.

• Ability to build consensus and work effectively across functions, business units, and global teams.

• Strong documentation, organizational, presentation, and facilitation skills.

• Experience with Agile methodologies and tools such as JIRA, ServiceNow, or similar application lifecycle and service management tools.

• Ability to manage shifting priorities in a results-oriented global environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Strong experience with SAP S/4HANA Finance and Controlling.

• Experience with SAP S/4HANA implementation, migration, or transformation programs.

• Experience working with global SAP templates and global Finance processes.

• Knowledge of S/4HANA capabilities and changes relevant to Finance and Controlling.

• Experience with global financial processes, financial close, intercompany transactions, and integration across business processes.

• Knowledge of IDocs, interfaces, APIs, and basic SAP debugging concepts.

• Exposure to Agile, Scrum, or other structured project delivery methodologies.

• SAP certification in Finance, S/4HANA Financial Accounting, Management Accounting, or a related area is preferred.

• Experience supporting process standardization, automation, and continuous improvement initiatives.

• Willingness to travel as needed.
