Founded in 2006, One Acre Fund equips 5.5 million smallholder farmers to make their farms more productive. Across nine countries that together are home to two-thirds of Africa's farmers, we provide high-quality farm supplies, tree seedlings, accessible credit, modern agronomic training, and a wide range of other agricultural services. On average, this model enables any farmer to increase their income and assets on supported land by more than 35 percent, while permanently improving their resilience. Our Burundi program, founded in 2011, operates under the local brand Tubura. 1662 staff serve close to 400,000 hard-working farmers. Our Burundi headquarters in Muramvya is supported by two regional offices in Gitega and Ngozi, and a small support office in Bujumbura. One Acre Fund works in the center and north of Burundi, in the provinces of Muramvya, Gitega, Ngozi, Kayanza, and Mwaro.

About the Role

We are looking for a gender specialist with a strong understanding of the challenges specific to Burundi, who can effectively support the implementation of our gender strategy across our workforce, including our field staff and community partners.

Responsibilities

Gender Capacity Building – Staff and Train-the-Trainers (ToT)

• Develop a comprehensive "Gender and Inclusion" Toolkit including presentation decks, participant manuals, facilitation tools and talking points for internal trainers;
• Design a Technical Guide for internal trainers (ToT approach) incorporating a skills-transfer methodology to sustainably embed gender training within Tubura;
• Conduct training missions and produce Training Mission Reports including attendance sheets, pre- and post-training evaluations, and a gap analysis of remaining needs;
• Facilitate specialized sessions for Women's Committee members covering detection mechanisms for gender-related complaints, survivor-centred intake protocols, and case management and follow-up procedures;
• Periodically assess the visibility and impact of the Women's Committee on the trust and safety of female staff.

Support for gender inclusive cultural development

• Ensure all above activities and deliverables are tailored and adapted to the field team and the HQ team.
• Develop a gender inclusive culture Training Curriculum structured into two distinct modules: -Module A: Operational and field contexts (farmer-facing); -Module B: Administrative and management contexts (non-farmer-facing);
• Design a Workbook and Reflection Guide for mentees, covering the importance of diversity in senior leadership roles and career development planning;

Institutional Inclusion Tools and Processes

• Facilitate Women ERG sessions and produce Session Facilitation Reports documenting identified bottlenecks and providing further support recommendations.
• Draft and implement an "Inclusive Manager's Guide" covering unconscious bias, equitable recruitment, inclusive team management, and diversity success indicators;
• Prepare an Executive Summary Presentation (one-pager or slide deck) for the internal launch of the guide to the leadership team;
• Develop awareness materials and advocacy talking points to institutionalize and normalize gender awareness across the organization, including:
• Posters to be displayed in all offices highlighting Tubura's Zero Tolerance Policy on sexual harassment;

Farmer-Facing Responsibilities (50% of the role)

• Talking points for managers and field directors to use during quarterly team meetings, covering the zero tolerance policy, grievance reporting mechanisms, and practical ways to integrate gender thinking into daily work.
• Gender & Youth-Responsive Programming and Strategy
• Conduct a gender and youth landscape assessment and design a Gender and Youth Inclusion Strategy for the program that includes a target to engage 10,000 youth and 70% young women.
• Advocate for and steer gender and youth inclusion across the program, establishing Youth Engagement Mechanisms and influencing program design decisions with internal stakeholders to be more gender inclusive.
• Collaborate with global gender and youth teams and working groups to align on vision and country road maps while capturing and sharing learning, best practices, and impact stories to contribute to OAF's broader youth agenda.
