Position Overview: The Biostatistician will be responsible for data quality oversight, development of analysis datasets, statistical analysis, and interpretation of patient-level clinical data. The role will support the evaluation of broad-spectrum antibiotic utilization, prescribing patterns, stewardship performance, antimicrobial resistance trends, and patient outcomes across participating hospitals. The Biostatistician will collaborate with hospital stakeholders to ensure that study findings are scientifically robust and suitable for informing policy, regulatory decision-making, and antimicrobial stewardship initiatives. The study includes retrospective patient-level data from clinical, pharmacy, microbiology, and stewardship systems.
Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience in biostatistical analysis of healthcare, clinical research, real-world evidence, or public health data. Experience with healthcare databases, EMR data, and large observational datasets. Strong understanding of study design, epidemiological methods, and statistical reporting. Ability to develop reproducible analysis code and quality-control processes. Experience of working with retrospective chart reviews and electronic health record datasets. Experience in antimicrobial resistance (AMR), infectious diseases, antimicrobial stewardship, or hospital epidemiology studies preferred. Understanding of antimicrobial stewardship frameworks, healthcare quality indicators, and AMR surveillance methodologies. Experience with WHO AMR surveillance methodologies, GLASS, AWaRe classification, or antimicrobial utilization studies.
Education Qualifications: Master's degree or PhD in Biostatistics: Epidemiology, Statistics, Public Health, Data Science, or related quantitative field. Advanced proficiency in Excel, STATA, SPSS, or equivalent statistical software. Prior publication record in AMR, infectious disease epidemiology, or healthcare outcomes research. Familiarity with UAE and Abu Dhabi regulations governing patient data privacy, research ethics, and secondary use of healthcare data. GCC or UAE healthcare research experience preferred. Experience supporting healthcare research initiatives. Knowledge of healthcare data governance, anonymization, and confidentiality requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Data Quality Management: Develop and implement data quality review plans. Conduct data validation, consistency checks, completeness assessments, and outlier identification. Review extracted datasets and generate data query reports. Support data cleaning, coding, reconciliation, and preparation of analysis datasets.
Statistical Analysis: Develop Statistical Analysis Plans (SAPs). Perform descriptive and inferential statistical analyses of patient-level clinical datasets. Analyze antibiotic utilization patterns, stewardship indicators, resistance trends, prescribing appropriateness, and clinical outcomes. Conduct multivariable regression analyses and other advanced analytical methods as required. Generate summary tables, figures, reports, and analytical outputs for interim and final reports.
Interpretation & Reporting: Interpret study findings and provide statistical input into technical reports. Contribute to presentations, stakeholder workshops, and report finalization. Support development of evidence-based recommendations for antimicrobial stewardship improvement.
Governance & Compliance: Ensure compliance with requirements for healthcare data security and confidentiality. Maintain secure handling of patient-level datasets. Support audit readiness and data governance documentation.
