BakerHicks provides a managed service supporting a major UK Defence Organisation's Configuration Management function. Operating across client sites, our specialist team of approximately 60 professionals delivers CAD, BIM, Surveying, GIS and Tooling services within a highly regulated and technically demanding environment.
As our service continues to grow, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a BIM Technician to join the team. This role will focus on the production and coordination of BIM models across mechanical, electrical and plumbing services, as well as civil, structural and architectural disciplines. You will play a key role in supporting project delivery through high-quality modelling, drawing production, coordination and data management.
About You
As a BIM Technician, you will have experience producing coordinated BIM models and delivering accurate, high-quality drawing packages within a project environment. You will be comfortable working with multidisciplinary teams, engaging with clients and stakeholders, and managing information in accordance with recognised BIM standards.
You'll understand current BIM software platforms, information management processes and digital delivery techniques, enabling you to contribute effectively to the successful delivery of projects while maintaining compliance with client and company requirements.
Key Purpose
- To produce and coordinate BIM models and drawings across multiple disciplines, including MEP, civil, structural and architectural projects.
- To support the delivery and maintenance of accurate facility information through the management of BIM and configuration-controlled data.
- To undertake BIM modelling, clash detection, model auditing and drawing production activities in accordance with project and company standards.
- To support the Built Environment disciplines through the provision of BIM models, drawings and technical expertise.
- To mentor trainees and technicians while promoting a culture of "Right First Time" and Continuous Improvement.
Responsibilities
- Produce 3D BIM models, 2D and 3D layouts, drawings and schedules using Autodesk platforms including Revit and AutoCAD.
- Carry out clash detection activities using Navisworks and Autodesk Forma (ACC).
- Review, interpret and convert point cloud data to create BIM models.
- Produce Revit families to the required level of detail as defined within project requirements.
- Perform model audits and prepare models for internal and external issue to suppliers and customers.
- Produce BIM models and drawings as directed by the BIM Team Lead.
- Update and modify drawings in accordance with client standards and procedures to support accurate facility records.
- Support configuration control of facility As-Built and Record models and drawings.
- Complete site surveys, ensuring redline information and asset data are captured accurately and efficiently.
- Liaise with customers and project stakeholders to confirm requirements.
- Work in accordance with company BIM standards, project BIM Execution Plans and ISO 19650 requirements.
- Provide BIM models and drawings to support Built Environment disciplines.
- Identify opportunities to improve workflows and increase operational efficiency.
- Undertake quality checking of BIM models and drawings produced internally and externally.
- Ensure task documentation, correspondence and file management processes are maintained in accordance with project procedures.
Knowledge, Experience and Qualifications
Essential
- Good knowledge of 3D architectural and building services coordination.
- Experience producing BIM models, drawings and Revit families.
- Experience using Autodesk Revit MEP and Revit Architecture within project environments.
- Experience using software such as Navisworks, ReCap, PointSense, Leica CloudWorx/Cyclone, Dynamo, Enscape and CADDuct/FabMEP.
- Good understanding of ISO 19650 standards and BIM information management principles.
- Experience manipulating laser scanned point cloud data.
- Good understanding of Common Data Environments (CDEs) and document management systems including Autodesk Forma (ACC).
- Experience managing and controlling BIM data and related information.
- Ability to apply engineering knowledge to review, assess and select appropriate technical solutions.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload and deliver to agreed timescales.
- Proven track record of delivering projects successfully while maintaining high levels of client satisfaction.
Desirable
- HNC or equivalent qualification in an engineering, BIM, construction or built environment discipline.
- Autodesk certification delivered by an approved Autodesk training provider.
- Experience working within highly regulated environments such as Defence, Nuclear, Infrastructure or similar sectors.
- Demonstrable examples of Revit-based Architectural and MEP project delivery.
Many of the positions within our company are subject to security clearance or security assurance levels.
The successful candidate must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate level of security clearance or assurance level for this role, in line with client and sector requirements.
In some cases, additional nationality or residency criteria may also apply due to specific client or national security obligations.
