Job Description
Bath External Integrated Project (EIP) Internship
Duration: 6 months
Starting salary: £23,600 (pro rata) + £500 joining bonus to support with moving and hybrid working
For students who are due to undertake the year 3 group design activity next semester.
In partnership with the University of Bath Department of Mechanical Engineering, Rolls-Royce is offering 6-month industrial placements for high calibre engineering students from 15th February 2027 to 20th August 2027. Each placement will be a technical project, with a significant business element, and will count towards 20% of your degree – it’s a replacement for the second semester group design activity. This is a chance to do an influential project at a FTSE world renowned engineering company, as well as being paid for your internship. You will also be considered for a graduate placement, based on your performance from this internship. RR/Bath EIP scheme has been running for over 20 years and many EIP Interns have gone on to join the company graduate programme.
Projects are currently being selected but it is likely that one of the projects will be on complex modelling of whole engine rotodynamic behaviour. Past projects have included virtually every engineering skill type including Systems and Component Design, Life Cycle Engineering, Thermodynamics, Aerodynamics, NDT and Additive Manufacturing.
Part of your internship will include submitting reports and giving seminars which are assessed by the university and Rolls-Royce. Please note that applicants are welcome from all Department of Mechanical Engineering Courses including the Integrated Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Course (IMEE). The internship will be based on site at Rolls-Royce, Bristol.
We see hybrid working as a way to balance and flex our time between the office, home, or another remote working place. Everyone is expected on site, on average, a minimum three days per week. But specific arrangements will vary from role to role and gig to gig. We encourage and support flexible working arrangements where we can.
To work for the Rolls-Royce Defence business areas an individual must hold a Security Check clearance. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if you do not currently already have this in place. Due to the nature of work the business conducts and the protection of certain assets we can only progress applications from individuals who are a UK national or, in MoD approved cases, a dual national.
