About This Job
Axos is rebuilding first-line quality control for Commercial Lending around AI and automation. The AVP/VP, Commercial Quality Control & AI Automation leads that work. You decide which manual review programs move to automated and AI-assisted workflows, put the controls in place that let those workflows run inside a regulated bank, and lead the team that builds and operates them. You will lead a blended onshore and offshore team that runs quality control (QC) across Commercial Lending credit and operations programs, including loan boarding, loan maintenance, HMDA, UCC, Reg B, Flood, and rate changes. The team includes dedicated AI automation associates who build review workflows in Claude, Claude Code, and n8n. These tools are approved and in use today. The job is to scale them across the function while every program stays accurate, on time, and audit-ready.
This role fits a quality, operations, or audit leader who has already moved manual work to automation and wants to do it at a larger scale. It also fits an automation or process-transformation leader with a strong controls background who wants to own a function's results along with its tooling. Commercial lending regulatory depth helps, and the team's subject-matter experts carry much of it day to day.
Responsibilities:
- Own the Commercial Quality Control AI and automation roadmap: identify manual review programs and checklists suited to automation or AI assistance, set priorities, and sponsor the build
- Lead the AI automation associates who build those workflows in approved tooling (Claude, Claude Skills, Claude Code, n8n). Review designs, remove blockers, and set the standard for testing and documentation
- Validate each workflow against representative cases before launch, set its human-review posture, and step manual review down only as performance evidence supports it. Tools assist; reviewers and leadership make the final call
- Represent Commercial Quality Control in the bank's AI governance process, so that every AI-assisted workflow meets model risk, audit, and approved-tool standards before and after deployment
- Lead, hire, and develop a blended onshore and Philippines-based team, including an offshore review group led by a Commercial Quality Control supervisor
- Own first-line QC programs across Commercial Lending credit (HMDA/LAR, UCC, Reg B, Flood, rate changes, risk rating review) and operations (loan boarding, loan maintenance, money movement, and related programs)
- Own audit and regulatory exam coordination for Commercial QC with second- and third-line partners. This includes findings management, remediation plans covering systems, process, and training, and on-time closure
- Own capacity planning, SLA and KRI reporting, and value-driver reporting for the function, including where automation has returned capacity
- Partner with Commercial Lending, Commercial Operations, Commercial Lending Technology, and Internal Audit on initiatives that change QC scope, standards, or systems
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience
- 5+ years of experience in quality control, quality assurance, audit, risk, or operations within banking or another regulated financial services environment
- 3+ years of direct people management experience
- Experience transitioning manual review, testing, or operational processes to automation or AI as a sponsor, product owner, or builder, with the ability to speak to implementation, testing, and measurable results
- Strong working knowledge of risk and control frameworks, including evaluating when automated reviews are appropriate and when additional oversight is required
- Proven experience managing audit or regulatory examination relationships, including findings remediation
- Strong analytical, written communication, and stakeholder management skills
- Experience in commercial lending quality control, credit administration, or applicable regulatory requirements, including HMDA, UCC, Reg B, and Flood
- Hands-on experience with generative AI tools such as Claude or Claude Code and low-code automation platforms such as n8n, Power Automate, or UiPath
- Working knowledge of Python, SQL, or another scripting or query language
- Experience with AI governance, model risk, or third-party risk frameworks within a regulated environment
- Experience managing outsourced, offshore, or blended onshore/offshore teams
- Experience with commercial lending platforms such as nCino or Loan IQ
- Experience with process mapping tools and methodologies, including iGrafx, Lean, or Six Sigma
