Role Summary:
- The AVP, GCC is a hands-on, technically fluent leader responsible for the performance, quality, and continuous evolution of April Housing's India-based finance and accounting team. Reporting to the Director of Accounting, the Senior Manager owns the end-to-end management of the India team's workload including task execution, prioritization, capacity planning, and timely, accurate completion of all deliverables across Accounting, Partnership Accounting, Tax, IT, Transaction Management and FP&A.
- This role will supervise a team of 15 accounting professionals and support special projects for the CAO and other senior leaders.
- This leader must deeply understand the work performed by the team from bank reconciliations and the month-end close to LIHTC partnership waterfalls and tax engagement administration and be capable of stepping into the detail when required to coach, unblock, and assure quality. Equally, the Senior Manager will operate as a strategic partner to onshore leadership, communicating proactively and directly on deliverables, due dates, risks, and expectations, and serving as the single point of accountability for the GCC's output.
- Critically, this is a forward-looking mandate. The Senior Manager is expected to accelerate process automation, explore and implement AI-enabled workflows, and build a culture of continuous improvement, scalability, and modernization positioning the GCC not as a back-office function, but as a center of innovation for the global organization.
What you will do:
Operational Ownership & Delivery
- Own the India team's complete workload intake, prioritization, assignment, execution, and on-time, high-quality completion of all deliverables across Corporate Accounting, Partnership Accounting, Tax, IT, Transaction Management and FP&A.
- Manage the cadence of recurring deliverables, including the month-end and year-end close, bank and cash reconciliations, trial balance interfaces from third-party property management companies (PMCOs), SOX control procedures, partnership cash disbursements, and tax engagement administration.
- Establish and monitor service levels, turnaround times, and quality metrics; identify capacity constraints early and reallocate resources to protect critical deadlines.
- Serve as the primary escalation point for the India team, resolving issues promptly to maintain workflow continuity and prevent downstream impact to onshore stakeholders.
Project Management & Resource Planning
- Apply rigorous project-management discipline to plan, sequence, and track multi-workstream initiatives, balancing recurring production work against transformation projects and ad hoc requests from the CAO, Controller, and functional leaders.
- Build and maintain forward-looking resource and capacity plans aligned to the close calendar, audit cycles, transaction volumes, and seasonal tax and FP&A demands.
- Define and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all key processes, ensuring institutional knowledge is documented, current, and transferable.
Quality, Accuracy & Controls
- Uphold standards of quality, accuracy, timeliness, and accountability across every output produced by the team.
- Ensure GAAP compliance, data integrity, and adherence to internal controls, accounting policies, and regulatory requirements, including SOX procedures performed in coordination with PMCOs.
- Implement multi-tier review and quality-assurance frameworks so that errors are detected and corrected before deliverables reach the onshore team or external auditors.
Talent Development & Training
- Recruit, develop, and retain a high-performing, future-ready team; build a robust talent pipeline and succession plan across analyst, senior, and manager levels in both Gurgaon and Bangalore.
- Invest in staff development through structured coaching, technical and functional training, and clear performance feedback, raising the capability of the team across accounting, technology, and analytics.
- Cultivate cross-training across Accounting, Partnership, Tax, IT, Transaction Management and FP&A so the team can flex to demand, and individuals can grow beyond a single function.
Transformation & Continuous Improvement
- Accelerate process automation and re-engineer manual, repetitive workflows to improve speed, accuracy, and scalability.
- Explore, pilot, and implement AI-enabled workflows that augment the team's productivity and elevate the value of its output.
- Champion a culture of continuous improvement, modernization, and innovation, treating the India team as a proving ground for new tools and ways of working.
What you should have:
The successful candidate must possess the drive and energy to execute the above-mentioned responsibilities.
- Must be flexible and willing to work and travel in two locations between Gurgaon and Bangalore as required
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a closely related field.
- Minimum of 10–13 years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including significant leadership of teams in a shared-services, global capability center environment.
- Demonstrated success managing offshore or distributed teams that deliver for onshore stakeholders, with a proven record of strong team and business outcomes.
- Strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP, including consolidations; experience with the full accounting cycle and month-end close.
- Proven project-management, resource-planning, and process-improvement capabilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage directly and effectively with senior onshore leadership.
- Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment while maintaining composure and quality.
- Chartered Accountant (CA), CMA, MBA, or equivalent advanced credential.
- Experience in real estate, investment, or fund accounting and multi-tiered partnership structures.
- Cross-functional fluency spanning Corporate Accounting, Partnership Accounting, Tax, Transaction Management and FP&A, is a plus.
- Track record of leading automation, digital-transformation, or AI-adoption initiatives within a finance function.
- Hands-on experience with ERP and real-estate accounting platforms such as Yardi and FAS, treasury and payments systems such as GTreasury, and AP automation tools such as AVID.
