In actuarial services at PwC, you will be responsible for analysing and managing financial risks for clients through statistical modelling and data analysis. Your work will generate valuable insights and recommendations to help businesses make informed decisions and mitigate potential risks.

Uphold and reinforce professional and technical standards (e.g. refer to specific PwC tax and audit guidance), the Firm's code of conduct, and independence requirements.

You will play an integral role in developing, validating and implementing models that perform a variety of complex calculations for our banking and financial institution clients, in addition to managing various teams to deliver on such engagements. These include the following but are not limited to:

Supporting the audits of major Australian banks, small to medium banks and other financial institutions, including fintech companies.

Designing, building, and testing new models for our consulting clients, which are used for financial and capital reporting, as well as for testing clients’ models.

Providing model validation services, ensuring alignment with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.

Conducting conceptual reviews of modelling approaches and technical reviews of model performance.

Assessing the model risk management frameworks and governance of our clients.

Working with a range of risk models, particularly credit risk models, such as IFRS 9 Expected Credit Loss models and Basel III Internal Ratings-Based models.

Primarily leveraging statistical analysis software such as SAS, R, and Python, but also using other software as required by our client

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Participating in a wide range of projects and collaborating across multiple work streams or teams; consistently demonstrating creative thinking, individual initiative and timely completion of assigned work.

Consistently demonstrating teamwork dynamics by working as a team member:

  • understanding personal and team roles; leading junior team members; contributing to a positive working environment by building solid relationships with team members; proactively seeking guidance, clarification, and feedback.
  • Preparing deliverables within stringent deadlines, often for audits or regulatory compliance.
  • Keeping up to date with local, national, and international banking regulations, industry trends and economic issues.
  • Contributing to the development of your own and team’s technical acumen.
  • Serving as a participant in communications with various engagement teams and clients.
  • Managing and mentoring teams of actuarial and banking professionals, ensuring high quality deliverables and timely completion of projects.
  • Overseeing multiple client engagements simultaneously, managing budgets, timeline, and resources effectively.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with key client stakeholders and senior internal management.
  • Contributing to business development activities, including proposal writing and client presentations .

  • Demonstrating thorough knowledge of technical actuarial and risk modelling subject matter specialisation, especially in banking industry and regulatory developments.
  • Demonstrating problem-solving and analytical thinking skills
  • Developing expertise in various risk models, particularly credit risk models
  • Demonstrating knowledge of database structures and data process flows, particularly in handling large datasets common in the banking industry

Demonstrating some proven abilities and/or success as a leader:

  • creating a positive environment, monitoring workloads, meeting client expectations, and providing meaningful feedback.
  • Demonstrating skills in writing, communicating, facilitating, and presenting to all levels of industry audiences, clients, and internal staff and management.
  • Demonstrating strong people management skills, including talent development, and team building.
  • Showcasing business acumen and the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences.
  • Developing a robust professional network within the industry and contributing to the firm’s market presence.
  • Masters or Bachelors in Finance / Economics / Mathematics /Statistics (B. Com, B.A (Economics) / B.Sc. with Economics / Mathematics / Statistics Hons) Work experience required – 5 years and above.
  • Proven track record of managing complex projects and client relationships
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel.

Proficiency in at least some of the following:

  • Data / Statistical Analytics – SAS, R, Python, SQL.
  • Visualisation Tools (Tableau, PowerBI, Qlik).
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Commitment to continuous training and proactively learning new processes.
  • Team player – committed to providing high quality and maintaining timeliness.
  • Demonstrate self-motivation and a desire to take responsibility for personal growth and development.
