Akron General’s 3100 Unit is a 16-bed cardiac telemetry and med/surg unit. This fast-paced unit cares for patients who require extensive ADL assistance, high-risk fall patients and patients with pneumonia, FTT, weakness, confusion, sepsis, PEG care, central lines, multiple antibiotic therapies, blood transfusions, IV push/cardiac drip titration medications and tracheostomies. Many of these patients are transfers out of the MICU/SICU and, occasionally, neuro overflow patients. This unit has a strong focus on IV push, limited cardiac drips and chest pain testing/monitoring.   

As an Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) on the team, you will support the nurse manager with the supervision of RN caregivers and other assigned nursing support personnel within the 3100 Med/Surg unit along with the Rapid Observation Unit. You will work alongside the nurses, driving the OKRs, making sure fall precautions are in place, providing staff support and leading huddles. Your role is instrumental in-patient rounding, performing service recovery and workflow optimization. Your efforts will have an impact on both patient care and the patient experience. This opportunity offers great leadership skill enhancement, the chance to work on a newly established unit and management exposer. Here, you can continue to climb to clinical ladder and grow into even more advanced management positions. 

A caregiver in this position works nights from 5:00PM – 3:30AM, including every other weekend and 3 holidays per year. 

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

• Interview, hire and train caregivers. 

• Provide input into performance evaluations and feedback. 

• Make personnel action recommendations (e.g., promotions, transfers, disciplinary, discharge). 

• Provide direction and support to the unit staff and supervise admissions, conduct assessment of patient's needs and initiate nursing care plans. 

• Evaluate and document patient progress. 

• Facilitate the planning, implementation, development and evaluation of nursing programs, initiative and objective for the unit. 

• Assist with the development and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure efficient and effective delivery of health services in a unit.  

• Serve as a liaison between the manager, caregivers and other areas within the organization. 

• Identify and resolve issues affecting the delivery of patient care services in a unit. 

• Prepare schedule of work assignments assuring adequate coverage. 

• Participate in and support quality improvement projects, outcomes studies and research initiatives. 

• Participate in departments and committees as assigned. 

• Assist with providing continuing education and in-service educational programs for caregivers. 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) 

• Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing 

• RN license in Ohio 

• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross 
• Two years of recent clinical nurse experience 

• Strong demonstrated clinical knowledge and skills (oral, written, interpersonal, analytical and organization) 

Physical Requirements:

• Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
• Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours. Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.
• Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
• Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Personal Protective Equipment:

• Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
