Job Summary

The Mass General Brigham Development Office represents a team of 450+ vibrant, collaborative, and skilled fundraising professionals, including the Cooley Dickinson Development Team which supports advancing care at Cooley Dickinson Hospital and Cooley Dickinson VNA & Hospice in Northampton, MA. The Assistant Director, Grateful Patient Program works to generate increased philanthropic support for both Cooley Dickinson Hospital and the Cooley Dickinson VNA and Hospice. The Assistant Director manages a portfolio of annual and major gift prospects that will be cultivated, solicited, and stewarded with a focus on increasing high end annual fund donors and building a pipeline of major/campaign donors. The Assistant Director will take the lead on the Grateful Patient Program, coordinating solicitations, working with the medical staff on education, and assisting with soliciting grateful patients. They will operationalize a program that builds a pipeline of grateful patient and family prospects. The Assistant Director will engage administrative leadership and clinical staff in the grateful patient process growing the culture of gratitude. They will implement and deliver training and education initiatives for the program across the organization preparing and delivering presentations and speeches as needed to increase awareness of the program. They will implement a clinical recognition program to recognize and celebrate staff as they are honored. They will also manage the process of thanking and stewarding donors to the program.

Additionally, the Assistant Director of the Grateful Patient Program will lead and execute an annual employee campaign working with the employee campaign committee to solicit key stakeholders to reach an annual campaign fundraising target. The Assistant Director of Grateful Patient Program embraces the department’s mission to raise philanthropic funds for Cooley Dickinson.

This position reports to the Director of Leadership Gifts and operates within established organizational and departmental policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Develop and manage own prospect pool, including annual and major donors. Ensure appropriate cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities with emphasis on donors capable of a gift of $1886 or more. This prospect pool includes individuals, businesses, organizations, family foundations, and/or vendors.
• Oversee the implementation, management, and further development of Cooley Dickinson’s comprehensive grateful patient fundraising program and operationalize a program that builds a pipeline of grateful patient and family prospects.
• Engage clinical staff and administrative leaders in the grateful patient process and implement and deliver training and education initiatives for the program across the organization.
• Prepare and deliver presentations, speeches, and reports as needed to a variety of audiences to increase awareness of the program.
• Implement a clinical recognition program to highlight and celebrate staff as they are honored through the program.
• Conduct discovery visits to engage new donors and build a prospect pool. Refer donors when needed to annual fund, major gifts/campaign, and planned giving as interests are discovered.
• Appropriately involve board members and key organizational medical/senior administration staff in cultivating and/or stewarding donors. Work collaboratively with board, administration, medical staff, volunteers, and development colleagues.
• Create funding proposals for donors. Oversee the life cycle of the donor, including personal acknowledgment and stewardship letters signed by the President and key volunteers, invitations, and stewardship reports and efforts.
• Oversee the annual employee campaign and create an employee committee to serve as ambassadors for the campaign.
• Take part in the employee orientation as a representative for the Development office.
• Work with the Development Communications Manager on developing messaging to support the grateful patient program.
• Participate as needed with volunteer committees.
• Represent Cooley Dickinson at community events as appropriate.
• Maintain established hospital and departmental policies and procedures objectives, confidentiality, quality improvement program, safety, compliance, and environmental standards.
• Meet annual competency and retraining requirements.
• Maintain professional growth and development through attendance at seminars, workshops, conferences or in-services, professional affiliations, or journals to stay abreast of current trends in field of expertise.
• Attend meetings as required.
• Perform other functions/duties as requested.


 

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required and 3-5 years of related experience. In addition, the ideal candidate will possess the following skills, abilities, and competencies:

  • Demonstrated track record in raising philanthropic funds for nonprofit organizations preferred; experience in a health care environment preferred
  • Excellent strategic skills with the ability to effectively move prospects and donors along the major gift continuum, from cultivation to solicitation to stewardship required
  • Demonstrated ability to problem-solve, devise, and implement creative solutions required
  • Solid organizational skills, the ability to manage multiple projects on deadline, to prioritize and perform multiple tasks efficiently and effectively, and an ability to respond effectively to changing circumstances required
  • Demonstrated ability to work well and build relationships with diverse constituencies required
  • Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills required
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Word, Excel and Blackbaud or other fundraising software preferred
  • Ability to travel within the community to conduct business

The target salary range for this position is $75,000 - $85,000/Annual. Final offers will be based on the candidate's experience and internal equity.
