About the Role

We are seeking an experienced, results-driven Area Director of Outpatient Pediatric Therapy to provide strategic, operational, financial, and clinical leadership across nine outpatient pediatric therapy clinics throughout Colorado.

This is an opportunity for a collaborative clinical leader who is passionate about developing high-performing teams, improving operational performance, and expanding access to quality pediatric therapy services.

Reporting to the Senior Director of Therapy, the Area Director will lead and develop Clinical Directors, drive accountability for clinic performance, and translate organizational priorities into measurable results.

The ideal candidate combines strong clinical expertise with business and operational acumen, bringing a proven ability to lead through others, improve performance, and foster a culture where employees and patients thrive.

Key Responsibilities

Multi-Site Leadership & Strategic Execution

  • Provide strategic and operational oversight across assigned outpatient pediatric therapy clinics, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and performance expectations.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop Clinical Directors, establishing clear expectations and accountability for clinic operations, team performance, and results.
  • Translate organizational objectives into actionable clinic-level strategies, measurable goals, and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews with Clinical Directors to evaluate progress, address operational challenges, and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Partner with the Senior Director of Therapy to implement strategic initiatives, standardize best practices, and support continued organizational growth.
  • Foster a collaborative, accountable, and supportive leadership culture across all assigned locations.

Financial & Operational Performance

  • Maintain accountability for financial and operational performance across assigned clinics, including revenue, expenses, productivity, utilization, and budget performance.
  • Monitor key performance indicators, identify trends and performance gaps, and implement data-driven strategies to improve results.
  • Evaluate staffing models, clinician capacity, scheduling practices, and resource allocation to maximize operational efficiency and sustainable growth.
  • Drive improvements in appointment utilization, cancellation management, patient attendance, and scheduling efficiency.
  • Partner with Revenue Cycle, Billing, Intake, and administrative teams to improve referral processing, authorizations, charge capture, and revenue cycle performance.
  • Develop and execute corrective action plans when performance falls below established expectations.

Clinical Quality & Compliance

  • Ensure the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based, family-centered care across occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech-language pathology, and mental health services.
  • Maintain oversight of clinical quality, documentation standards, patient outcomes, safety, and regulatory compliance.
  • Ensure clinics operate in accordance with applicable federal and state regulations, licensing requirements, payer standards, HIPAA, and organizational policies.
  • Partner with Clinical Directors and discipline-specific leaders to address clinical concerns, implement quality improvement initiatives, and maintain consistent standards of care.
  • Support the development and implementation of clinical programs and services that enhance patient outcomes.

Team Development, Recruitment & Retention

  • Build and develop high-performing leadership and clinical teams through coaching, mentorship, performance management, and professional development.
  • Partner with Human Resources and Talent Acquisition on workforce planning, recruitment strategies, employee engagement, and retention initiatives.
  • Monitor staffing levels, vacancies, turnover, and clinical capacity to ensure appropriate coverage and continuity of care.
  • Develop Clinical Directors' leadership capabilities, empowering them to independently manage operations, lead their teams, and deliver results.
  • Promote a culture of collaboration, accountability, employee well-being, and continuous improvement.
  • Identify and develop future leaders through succession planning and ongoing leadership development.

Clinic Growth & Patient Access

  • Develop and execute strategies to drive sustainable clinic growth, increase patient volume, and expand access to pediatric therapy services.
  • Monitor referral trends, conversion rates, waitlists, patient retention, and community demand to identify opportunities for growth.
  • Partner with Intake, Marketing, and community referral sources to strengthen relationships and improve access to services.
  • Identify opportunities to expand clinical capacity, introduce new programs, and address unmet patient needs.
  • Support clinic expansions and new service initiatives while maintaining alignment with staffing capacity, financial objectives, and clinical quality standards.

Cross-Functional Leadership & Communication

  • Serve as a key leadership partner to the Senior Director of Therapy, providing regular updates on clinic performance, operational priorities, and emerging challenges.
  • Collaborate with Finance, Human Resources, Revenue Cycle, Intake, Marketing, Compliance, and other departments to improve organizational performance.
  • Communicate organizational priorities and initiatives effectively across clinic leadership teams.
  • Identify and escalate significant operational, financial, clinical, or compliance risks while proactively developing solutions.
  • Promote consistency, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement across all outpatient locations.
