Advanced Practice Provider Leadership position
POSITION HIGHLIGHTS
The APP Manager for Ambulatory Cardiology will serve as a clinical and operational leader within the Heart & Vascular Institute at Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH).
This role combines direct ambulatory patient care responsibilities with management oversight of a growing team of Advanced Practice Providers (APPs). The APP Manager will collaborate closely with cardiology, advanced practice, nursing, and administrative leadership to advance high-quality, coordinated outpatient cardiovascular care.
This position offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of ambulatory cardiovascular care delivery at one of the nation's premier academic medical centers, while maintaining meaningful clinical practice and leading a dedicated team of cardiology APPs.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Clinical Leadership & Patient Care
• Maintain an active ambulatory clinical practice providing evidence-based cardiovascular care to patients with acute and chronic cardiac conditions
• Conduct comprehensive cardiovascular assessments; develop, implement, and evaluate diagnostic and treatment plans; and coordinate longitudinal follow-up
• Support timely access, transitions of care, medication management, patient education, and coordination with specialty and primary care teams
• Serve as a clinical expert and resource for the APP team and the interdisciplinary ambulatory cardiovascular care team
• Participate in ambulatory cardiology quality improvement initiatives and evidence-based practice implementation
Team Management & Supervision
• Directly oversee and manage the performance of a team of ambulatory cardiology APPs
• Conduct hiring, onboarding, orientation, training, and scheduling for APP team members
• Provide regular performance coaching, mentoring, and professional development support
• Complete performance appraisals and address disciplinary matters as needed
• Foster a positive, collaborative team culture that supports clinical excellence, patient access, and professional growth
Program Development & Strategic Collaboration
• Partner with Heart & Vascular Institute leadership to develop and implement strategic plans for ambulatory cardiology APP practice and care delivery
• Contribute to operational structures, standardized clinical workflows, and team-based ambulatory cardiovascular care models
• Participate in institute and division planning meetings and strategic initiatives
• Support coordination across ambulatory cardiology practices and transitions between inpatient, procedural, and outpatient settings
• Identify opportunities to improve patient access, panel management, continuity, quality, and program growth
Administrative & Operational Responsibilities
• Ensure appropriate staffing coverage and daily clinical operations for the ambulatory cardiology APP team
• Monitor team productivity, patient access, scheduling, quality metrics, and clinical outcomes
• Partner with practice leadership to optimize referral pathways, appointment availability, in-basket management, and continuity of care
• Participate in Heart & Vascular Institute meetings, committees, and hospital initiatives
• Collaborate with cardiologists, nursing, pharmacy, care coordination, administrative staff, and other interdisciplinary partners
• Maintain compliance with hospital policies, regulatory requirements, billing standards, and professional practice standards
Essential Functions
-Performs all essential functions of an advanced practice provider, providing direct patient care.
-Directly oversees and is accountable for the performance of a team of APPs and/or other direct reports.
-Hires, performance manages, and completes performance appraisals for a team of APPs and/or other direct reports.
-Orients, trains, and schedules staff.
-Assists with quality assurance programs as needed to help implement quality improvement efforts.
-Ensures continuing education and teaching for APPs.
-Acts as liaison between the hospital, physician and nursing staff, and other APPs.
-Ensures APPs are following proper billing compliance rules and methodology.
Qualifications
Education & Licensure
- Master's in Nursing (MSN) (or) DNP (or) PhD Degree in Nursing required. Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No.
- Completion of a Master’s or post-Master’s nurse practitioner program accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC).
- Satisfactory completion of an approved formal education program designed to prepare professional nurses to practice as nurse practitioners.
- Current Adult/Gerontology Nurse Practitioner certification by an accredited APRN certifying body required.
- Current APRN license to practice in Massachusetts and DEA registration required.
- Cardiovascular nursing or cardiology-related specialty certification preferred.
Experience
- Minimum 5+ years of experience as an Advanced Practice Provider required.
- Demonstrated progressive leadership experience required.
- Substantial clinical experience in cardiology or cardiovascular medicine required.
- Experience caring for patients with complex cardiovascular conditions in an ambulatory setting required.
- Experience with outpatient practice operations, patient access, care coordination, and transitions of care preferred.
