Description

We are seeking an Assistant Instructor to join our afterschool team at Calhoun! You’ll support our new Dungeons & Dragons class on Mondays and Tuesdays and a cooking class on Wednesdays.

We already have a lead instructor for Dungeons & Dragons. We’re looking for someone who loves the game, enjoys working with children, and can help students of all experience levels feel welcome. Students will explore fantasy and science fiction adventures through roleplaying games, strategy games, miniature painting, and diorama building. Games, models, paints, brushes, and other materials will be provided.

On Wednesdays, you’ll support the cooking instructor as students learn recipes and kitchen skills through hands-on activities.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Support lead instructors during Dungeons & Dragons and cooking classes.
• Help students learn game rules, participate in collaborative storytelling, and work on creative projects.
• Assist with cooking activities while reinforcing safety and cleanliness.
• Keep students engaged and help manage behavior in a positive, encouraging way.
• Assist with attendance, setup, cleanup, and organization of materials.
• Communicate with instructors and the site team about student needs and class activities.

This is you:

• You enjoy Dungeons & Dragons or other tabletop roleplaying games and are excited to share that interest with children.
• You’re comfortable assisting with a hands-on cooking class.
• You’re patient, dependable, and able to explain instructions clearly.
• You enjoy working with a team and helping students feel included.

The Schedule

• Monday, 3:00–4:45 PM: Dungeons & Dragons at Calhoun Middle School
• Tuesday, 2:45–4:30 PM: Dungeons & Dragons at Calhoun Lower School
• Wednesday, 2:45–4:30 PM: Cooking at Calhoun Lower School

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

- Enrolled in a Bachelor’s program in Art Education, Fine Arts, or a related field.
- Teaching experience, preferably with elementary-level students.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to inspire and motivate young learners.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Experience in curriculum development.
- At least 1 year of teaching experience, preferably with elementary-level students.
- Strong background in Dungeons & Dragons and Art.
