The team delivers technology from TRL1 -7 in conjunction with our strategic partners. Work within the team ranges from the original inception of design work, through NPI design and through in to the EDP. The team supports Production and Fleet issues.
The Fan & Compressor Aerothermal capability covers whole module gas path aerodynamics & performance analysis, blade/vane aerodynamic design & analysis, production & fleet support. It relies on skills in Computational Fluid Dynamics and Aerodynamic Design at a range of levels of fidelity and testing capability in a range of TRL rigs. Design and capability generation relies on a knowledge and understanding of the interaction of these components both locally and at an engine level.
This role is part of the Global Mechanical Systems Capability.
What you will be doing:
- Define requirements for Fan & Compressor aerothermal, ensuring an accurate and complete flow-down and capture of higher-level requirements. This includes system, sub-system and component aerodynamic, thermodynamic and combustion modelling requirements.
- Define concepts for all Fan & Compressor gas path aerothermal systems that meet requirements and evaluate using appropriate analytical methods to support accurate trades at platform and powerplant level and optimised concept selection. Concepts delivered should be robust to uncertainties in engine interaction and manufacturing capabilities.
- Integrate gas path aerothermal systems through interaction with all adjacent areas across the organisation to deliver systems are optimised.
- Define and conduct capability acquisition, development and application relating to people, process, methods, tools, knowledge management and technology. This may be conducted internally or externally and may involve securing internal or external funding.
- Develop in-house aerothermal computational tools [1D to 3D]
- Perform technical analysis of Fan & Compressor aerothermal functionality at sub-system and component level, using appropriate methods and tools and to the required level of fidelity.
- Perform verification and validation activity to ensure that requirements have been correctly met and that all Fan & Compressor aerothermal related aspects meet expectation. This will include the specification of appropriate test and measurement activity, the calibration of models against measured data, and the quantification of uncertainty.
- Provide Production and In-Service support as required, including concessions, drawing alleviation, and technical variances. This may include but is not limited to on-going technical analysis, root-cause-analysis and resolution, and in-service modifications.
Basic and preferred qualifications
