The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Description of Work

This position is located at Maury Correctional Institution in Hookerton, NC. Maury Correctional Institution is a close-custody prison housing male offenders. The facility is designed to house a maximum capacity of 1500 offenders.

Positions at this level perform this position is located in mental health. This position will have daily contact with offenders inside the institution. Duties and responsibilities include, but are limited to typing medical reports, appointment scheduling, telephone duties, preparing statistical reports, data entry, reviewing medical records for completeness, maintaining medical records on site in the confidential manner and performing clerical functions as required in compliance with Health Services policy and procedures. The Administrative Specialist I ensures all records are initiated, processed and complete when transferred as appropriate in a timely manner

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Salary Range: $ 31,200 - $51,249

• Documented proficiency in Microsoft Office Programs.

• Documented experience in Excel

• Demonstrated experience in performing administrative functions in an office setting

• Demonstrated ability to operate office machines and personal computers

• Demonstrated ability to record, compile, summarize and analyze data

• Demonstrated experience in maintaining confidential information

• Demonstrated experience in organization, retention, review and filing of records

• Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology
