Job Description Summary

The Clinical Laboratory Science (CLS) program at Santa Fe College prepares students to work as a medical technologist in a clinical setting such as a hospital, medical center, or reference laboratory and is accredited by the NAACLS.

Under general supervision, the Adjunct Assistant Professor will develop, prepare and teach a variety of coursework to include Clinical Chemistry, Hematology/Hemostasis, Immunology, Immunohematology/Transfusion medicine, Microbiology, Urine and Body Fluid Analysis and Laboratory Operations, and other emerging diagnostics and related disciplines. Faculty are assigned to the Perry Center or at any of the program's clinical affiliate locations. Course offerings may be taught during the day, evening, or online. Candidates must have the flexibility to teach assigned time and format at any site throughout the academic year. The candidate's primary function will be to teach didactic, laboratory, and clinical courses in Clinical Laboratory Science (CLS).

The part-time instructional service rate for Information Technology Education Biotechnology, Central Sterile Processing Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Dental, Medical Imaging, Nursing, Physical Therapist Assistant, Respiratory Care, Surgical Technology, Graphic Design and Digital Media programs is $986 per semester credit hour.

 

Job Description

Responsibilities and Duties Include:

  • Plans, organizes, and delivers instruction in didactic, laboratory and/or online settings to promote student success within a community college setting and align with the NAACLS curriculum guidelines.
  • Supports and promotes the college and departmental missions centered on excellence in teaching and learning through quality instruction, curriculum enhancement, and service.
  • Collaborates with department chair, faculty, and peers to evaluate, revise, and develop curriculum to cultivate the mastery of course content.
  • Demonstrates technological literacy and innovation in the delivery of instruction.
  • Works collaboratively as part of a cohesive academic team.
  • Assists with implementation of college policies, objectives, and functions in accordance with SF college philosophy, mission, strategic initiatives, and procedures.
  • Participates in departmental meetings and collegewide meetings as needed.
  • Serves as a professional role model and mentor for students and provides frequent, timely assessment and clear feedback regarding academic performance.
  • Appropriately documents student progress and maintain records including attendance, grading and student learning outcomes.
  • Develops methods that fairly and accurately assess students' progress in achieving the stated learning outcomes/objectives.
  • Correlates clinical education with didactic education and evaluates student performance and learning.
  • May evaluate, consult and instruct students during their clinical rotations.
  • Maintains office hours proportionate to the instructional assignment.
  • Assists the Program Director with preparing reports for internal and external audiences.
  • Maintains current knowledge of the discipline and educational methodologies through continuing professional development.
  • Strictly honors the privacy and security of student records and other sensitive information according to appropriate state, federal and college regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Works a flexible schedule at multiple worksites.
  • Provides service excellence through courteous, informed, accessible and professional engagement.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Reports to: Chair, Emerging Technologies

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:  A master's degree or higher, or a master's degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours in any recognized academic major in biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science, including but not limited to medical, dental, pharmacology/pharmaceutical, veterinary, physiology, and pathology

Additional Requirements: For candidates appointed to a clinical setting, documentation of immunizations and current CPR/BLS certification are required. A criminal background check will be conducted.

Preferred:  Relevant teaching experience within a community college setting. Current American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification. Candidates that have at least one year of clinical laboratory experience.

  • Multi-task - Ability to expeditiously organize, coordinate, manage, prioritize, and perform multiple tasks simultaneously to swiftly assess a situation, determine a logical course of action, and apply the appropriate response.
