A Brief Overview
Possesses ability to function in an RN or Endoscopy Technician capacity based on needs of the department. Working as an RN: Assumes responsibility and accountability for all care rendered to SV Endoscopy patients. Assesses all patients entering their care, validates information on the patient chart/history and provides care throughout all phases of the endoscopy process (pre-procedure, intra-procedure & post-procedure). Additionally, facilitates intra-procedural sedation as directed by physician for pulmonology patients. Working as an Endoscopy Technician: Assists physician during procedures. Possesses knowledge of endoscopic equipment and procedures performed. Assures endoscopic equipment is in good working order. Able to perform all necessary elements of cleaning, high level disinfection and scope reprocessing per department policy and procedures. Responsible for room set-up, turn-over and organization of endoscopic suites. Will prepare the rooms and endoscopes for patient use and participate per departmental and organization policies regarding pathology, specimen collection, specimen logging, and documentation as directed. At all times will strive to work in harmony with GI physicians, anesthesia, other department staff members, pulmonology and ancillary departments. Education Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree Bachelors of Science: Nursing (BSN) Preferred

Experience Qualifications

• • previous experience working in a procedural area Preferred

• • previous experience completing Endoscopy technician duties in a hospital setting Preferred

• • previous experience and knowledge of high-level disinfection practices Preferred

Licenses and Certifications

• Registered Nurse - KSBN A multistate license with the ability to practice within the State of Kansas is also accepted. Required

• Basic Life Support - BLS may be required depending on the department within 90 days of hire date.

• Other RQI's maybe required depending on the department, within 90 days of hire date.

What you will do

• Provides direct patient care as defined within the scope of the state’s nurse practice act. Performs assessment/data collection in an ongoing and systematic manner. Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with nursing standards. Formulates a prioritized and goal directed plan of care which is based on patient's presenting problems and projected outcomes.

• Performs efficiently in emergent patient situations following established standard of care. Practices effective problem identification and resolution as a method of sound decision making. Seeks validation of knowledge base, skill level, and decision making and asks for guidance in areas of question.

• Greets patients and prepares them for provider examination. Instructs patient and family regarding planned procedure, medications, collection of samples/tests and treatment instructions. *Demonstrates self-directed learning when necessary to meet own professional development

• Functions to establish priorities of patient care based on essential patient needs and available unit resources of time, personnel, equipment and supplies. Prepares equipment and aids provider or other staff during treatment, examination and testing of patients. Evaluates the effectiveness of the health care process in meeting outcomes.

• Documents in patient and department records in a timely, accurate and concise manner according to department and organizational standards and expectations. • Assists the physician and circulating RN before, during and after diagnostic and therapeutic procedures with required tasks such as (biopsy, polypectomy, abdominal pressure, banding, dilation, ultrasounds, specimen collection, etc.) • Technically competent to trouble-shoot the processor tower, and associated machines (i.e. lithotripsy, spyglass, EUS, APC, etc.), GI software program issues and automated endoscopic reprocessing machines. • Follows organizational expectations to get equipment issues resolved as quickly as possible, especially in emergent situations. • Performs efficiently in emergency patent situations following established protocols, able to work under pressure during emergency procedures, and able to perform job duties outside of the home unit in potentially uncomfortable or emergent situations such ER, ICU, OR during procedures such as (GI bleed, food bolus, foreign body removal, ERCP, or esophageal perforation). • Possesses ability to perform advanced procedures with GI provider, acting as their assist. Must possess knowledge of needle advancement, placement, ability to view objects under fluoroscopy guidance, in addition to extensive training and competency in all advanced procedures (whether performed as scheduled or on-call). i.e. ERCP, EUS, RUS, EMR, FNA, FNB, EGD with Bravo Capsule placement.

• Adheres to staffing and scheduling practices which includes requirement to take call, and live/or be able to respond to the hospital within 30 min. of notification for all on-call cases. • Expected to complete any organizational and department specific learning modules/training as assigned or required specific to own job role, including quality assurance and improvement activities, reprocessing, HLD and maintenance of equipment according to infection control policies and manufacturer’s instructions.

• Demonstrates an awareness of self-responsibility for own actions, follows appropriate reporting structures, utilizes effective communication methods and skills, and formulates positive working relationships with all health care customers.

• Participates in system wide/department patient care quality improvement activities as well as standards development. • Maintains knowledge of current practice issues related to the field of gastroenterology.

• Participates in development and attainment of system wide/department hospital goals. Maintains patient confidentiality and complies with corporate compliance.

• Demonstrates cost effectiveness in the use of supplies and equipment.

• Attends regularly scheduled meetings and participates in committees as requested. Participates in clinical education activities. Assist in education of new staff members and nursing students.
