Academic Advisor (part-time, 28 hours/week)

 Join the College of Life Sciences Advisement Center as an Academic Advisor and make a meaningful difference in the lives of undergraduate students. In this rewarding role, you will build supportive relationships with students and provide holistic academic, career, and personal guidance to help them achieve their educational and professional goals. Through individualized advising, proactive outreach, and collaboration with faculty, staff, and campus partners, you will empower students to make confident decisions, overcome challenges, and thrive at BYU.

What you’ll do in this position:

• Provide holistic academic, career, and personal advising to undergraduate students
• Develop personalized graduation and academic improvement plans with students
• Conduct proactive outreach and connect students with appropriate resources and support
• Document advising interactions and track student progress using AIM, MYMAP, and Salesforce
• Maintain current knowledge of curricula, graduation requirements, university policies, procedures, and campus resources
• Collaborate with departments, faculty, staff, and campus partners to support student success
• Participate in professional development, committees, graduation activities, student programs, and office initiatives

What qualifies you for this role:

Required

• A firm commitment to the mission of BYU. 
• Bachelor’s Degree
• Excellent written, verbal, listening, and interpersonal communication skills
• Strong decision-making, problem-solving, organizational, and time-management skills
• Ability to contribute to a unified team effort and maintain a pleasant, courteous, and professional presence in an office setting
• Ability to interact effectively with a wide variety of students and circumstances, including distressed students, challenging situations, and stressful seasons
• Strict attention to accuracy, organization, confidentiality, efficiency, and timeliness
• Computer proficiency with basic office software, systems, and equipment
• Commitment to ongoing professional development

Preferred

• 2 years advisement related experience

• Academic advising certificate and/or micro credentials (e.g. Appreciative Advising, NACADA Certificate), NACADA Micro Credentials in Academic Advising
• Knowledge of and ability to apply advising theories and techniques, including college student development, multicultural challenges, advising as coaching, appreciative advising, and motivational interviewing
• Ability to apply general advising skills, including reflective listening, assessing student knowledge, providing recommendations and appropriate referrals, and helping students identify obstacles and develop solutions and goals
• Familiarity with the BYU environment, policies, procedures, and student resources

Typical Starting Pay: $28.50 to $37.25 an hour
