The Role
As Head of Software Testing, you’ll define and execute our quality strategy, ensuring that every release of our platform meets the highest standards of safety, reliability, performance, and compliance. You’ll lead a talented team of software quality engineers, testing product features and strengthening our automated testing frameworks, and play a vital role in helping medical device companies bring high-quality technology to market faster. What You’ll Do
- Lead and grow the quality engineering team
- Plan and coordinate verification & validation for software releases and other testing activities
- Drive scaling up of automated testing with a team using Playwright, TypeScript, Cucumber
- Work with the team to keep CI/CD pipelines fast and reliable
- Coordinate work between different teams such as Engineering, DevOps, Product, Customer Success, and Sales, representing the quality and test engineering team
- Own verification & validation for software releases
- Apply quality principles at scale
- Perform risk management
- Prepare and field audits (IEC 62304 & co.)
- Champion a quality-first culture across product and engineering
- Define, track, and share goals and metrics for test automation & product quality, to keep leadership and stakeholders informed and to identify areas for improvement
What We’re Looking For
Must-Haves
- Extensive experience (10+ years) in software quality and testing, with at least 5 years in leadership
- Experience in a high-growth company
- Experience in establishing and running processes to improve overall quality
- Hands-on experience with TypeScript or JavaScript
- Practical experience with test automation tools such as Playwright or Cypress
- Strong knowledge of software QA methodologies, tools, and processes
- Familiarity with BDD practices, ideally using Cucumber
- Experience working in an early stage, product-based start up.
Nice-to-Haves
- Experience preparing for and managing audits
- Experience working in a regulated industry such as MedTech, healthcare, finance, automotive, or aerospace
- Experience using test case management tools such as Xray, TestRail, Azure DevOps, or HP ALM
- Experience with performance and security testing
- Knowledge of ISO 13485 / IEC 62304

Responsibilities
- Partner with product and software engineers to clarify acceptance criteria and translate them into maintainable manual and automated test coverage
- Perform risk-based testing of functionality, including validation of accessibility, internationalization/localization, security, and privacy requirements
- Perform structured exploratory and scenario-based testing across key user workflows to uncover usability, edge cases, and integration issues
- Validate and triage defect reports in collaboration with Esri Support Services, review with development team for resolution
- Communicate quality status, risks, and recommendations via dashboards, written summaries, and verbal updates to support informed release decisions
- Review automated test coverage and results to assess effectiveness, surface gaps, and recommend areas for improvements
- Lead risk assessment for assigned features, evaluating functional, technical, and user-facing risks to inform test focus and release readiness decisions
Requirements
- 2+ years of QA experience testing modern web applications in an Agile environment
- Experience with web UI test automation tooling such as Playwright
- Experience testing REST APIs and validating integrations (JSON/HTTP)
- Familiarity with JavaScript/TypeScript to read and reason about automated test cases to better understand coverage and recommend areas of improvement
- Intermediate understanding of web fundamentals (HTML/CSS, components, APIs) and UI/UX principles
- Intermediate understanding of accessibility (WCAG) and internationalization/localization (i18n/l10n) practices
- Proven problem-solving skills to isolate issues, document clearly, and collaborate effectively to resolve product deficiencies
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, GIS, Information Science, or another related technical
Recommended Qualifications
- QA experience testing modern web applications in an Agile environment Experience supporting enterprise-scale or other developer-focused products

The Senior Test Automation Engineer is responsible for providing technical leadership in the design, architecture, development, and execution of automated testing solutions to ensure the quality, reliability, and performance of enterprise software applications. With a minimum of 10 years of test automation experience and deep expertise in Selenium, this role leads the transition from manual to automated testing by establishing scalable, maintainable automation frameworks and best practices.
The engineer works closely with developers, release managers, and stakeholders to validate requirements, identify quality risks early in the software development lifecycle, and embed testability into system design. This position supports a large, modular enterprise Military Housing (eMH) application deployed in a Navy on‑premise environment utilizing JBoss and Oracle databases and integrates automated testing into existing CI/CD pipelines to improve delivery efficiency and software quality.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design, architecture, and implementation of an enterprise‑level automated testing framework, supporting the eMH application’s 34+ functional modules.
- Own and execute the strategy for migrating from manual testing to automated testing, including prioritization, coverage model, and long‑term maintainability.
- Serve as the technical authority for test automation, defining standards, best practices, and reusable components across modules.
- Evaluate system architecture and module complexity to determine appropriate automation approaches and tooling.
- Partner with developers, architects, and analysts to embed testability into designs and shift quality left.
- Drive integration and optimization of automated testing within existing CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins) to improve feedback cycles.
- Analyze automation results, trends, and test coverage to identify quality risks and communicate findings to stakeholders.
- Provide technical mentorship and guidance to QA and development team members on automation techniques and quality improvement (no formal people management).
- Ensure automated testing approaches align with DoD, security, and compliance standards applicable to the eMH system.
- Create and manage test plans, test cases, and regression test suites.
- Collaborate with developers and analysts to understand requirements and ensure comprehensive test coverage.
- Execute automated and manual tests to validate software functionality, security, and performance.

- Contribute to Agile ceremonies and support iterative development processes.

Qualifications
- Certifications: Active CompTIA Security+ or equivalent DoD 8140-compliant certification or the ability to attain it within the first six months.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in software test automation, including senior‑level ownership of automation strategy and framework design.
- Demonstrated experience designing and building a test automation framework from the ground up for a complex, modular application.
- Proven experience leading a manual‑to‑automation testing transition for enterprise‑scale systems.
- Deep expertise in Java and Selenium, with a focus on framework scalability, reusability, and maintainability.
- Strong understanding of enterprise test strategy, test architecture, and risk‑based testing.
- Experience working with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins to integrate and maintain automated testing pipelines.
- Ability to operate with a high degree of autonomy while influencing technical decisions without direct authority.

Location/Flexibility: Must be local to the DC Metro area. This position offers remote flexibility with 2 day a week (minimum) of onsite work in Northern VA.
Responsibilities:
- Provide overall management of a module release. Planning, coordinating, and controlling the movement of a module release through planning and design, development, testing, and deployment to production.
- Work as a subject matter expert in three software modules.
- Define release schedule and roadmap.
- Answer questions and provide daily guidance to developers on development tickets (requirements).
- Provide priorities and track progress on development tasks
- Creating development tickets for initial release setup and as needed or required during the release timeline.
- Meet with stakeholders on a regular basis to define requirements and flesh out requirements.
- Hold daily standups with developers, scrum master, and stakeholders, to identify and eliminate roadblocks to progress and keep the release timeline on track.
- Test developer tickets as they are completed and identify any bugs or fixes needed. Send tickets back with guidance to developers on fixes needed.
- Manage cross-team communication between developers, QA, customers, and infrastructure teams.
- Ensure dependencies between teams or systems are handled.
- Develop and maintain release documentation.
- Oversee deployments to QA Test, Staging, and Production environments (Production deployments are done on weekends – this is an overtime requirement).
- Review production change requests and production bug reports and add to the development backlog on an ongoing basis.
Qualifications:
- BA/BS Degree with at least 10 years of relevant experience
- Current and valid Scrum Master Certification (CSM) or ability to obtain.
- Active CompTIA Security+ or equivalent DoD 8140-compliant certification or the ability to obtain it.
- Dedicated to gaining the necessary expertise to effectively manage and master the system modules they are assigned
- Previous experience as a Software Release Manager in an Agile environment.
- Ability to document requirements into user stories, design and scope documents, and testing plans.
- Ability to reproduce reported software defects and document requirements to correct.
- Ability to research change requests and determine if a request is duplicative or new.
- Experience creating mockups of websites.
- Experience working with presentation and project management tools and presenting to customers/stakeholders.
- Experience writing test plans and performing various type of software testing including unit, Integration, System, User Acceptance, Smoke and End-to-end Testing..
- Experience with Atlassian Work Management tools (Jira/Confluence).
- Experience creating development tickets in Jira. Jira admin skills are a plus.
- Excellent communication and writing skills.
- Computer programming skills a plus
