About the role:
Samsara’s hardware EPM is responsible for delivering new hardware devices to the business through prototyping and qualification builds and into mass production. In this role you will partner with internal EE/PD/FW engineers, product management, operations and supply chain to develop and ship high-quality products. You will manage the day-to-day activities of our JDM partners including design, build definition and execution, validation, and reliability to ensure product goals are achieved on a timely basis. You’ll be passionate about developing high-quality products, demonstrate a high degree of process ownership and innovation, and want to have fun while we bring the world of physical operations to the cloud.
This role is based in our Taipei office, and it is a hybrid position required to office as needed. This position requires travel up to 20% of the time and proximity to an international airport. Relocation will not be provided,

In this role you will:
- Develop the hardware schedule and execute engineering builds, including EVT, DVT, and PVT.
- Ensure tight cross-functional coordination and communication between Software, Hardware, Product Management and Operations.
- Ensure our JDM partners have a clear understanding of the project goals and requirements.
- Manage JDM and other key suppliers to ensure on-time delivery of high-quality devices.
- Leverage your experience and engineering skills to address issues during device builds and keep the program on track.
- Provide regular reporting of program status and issues, coordinating closely with the System EPM in the US.
- Stay in alignment with Operations on BOM/Build costs and material availability.
- Be a role model of Samsara’s cultural principles both internally and externally.
- Champion, role model, and embed Samsara’s values and operating principles as we scale globally and across new offices.
Minimum requirements for this role:
- 5+ years experience in hardware engineering program management - proven ability to effectively manage multiple projects and factory build events
- Solid organizational skills including attention to details, prioritization and triage of issues
- Adaptive attitude for a rapidly-evolving industry
- Proven record driving cross-functional teams toward shared goals
- Self-motivated, proactive, creative and critical problem-solving capabilities
- Ability to support international travel for JDM discussions and build events
- BS or MS degree in an engineering related field is required, Electrical, Mechanical or Computer Science is preferred
- Experience with Microsoft Project, SmartSheet or related project scheduling software
Experience with tools like JIRA and Confluence for project summaries and issue tracking - Strong communication skills in both English and Mandarin
An ideal candidate also has:
- Experience with dash camera, gateway, or telematics products is a plus

Overview:
Motive is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Contract Manufacturing Manager (CM Manager) to lead the strategic CM/JDM relationship. The CM Manager will be responsible for managing supplier relationships, ensuring timely delivery, optimizing costs, mitigating risks, and being a key contributor to the overall supply chain strategy. This role requires strong cross-functional collaboration, excellent communication skills, and a proven track record of success in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a high degree of ownership, strategic thinking, and the ability to drive significant impact.
Responsibilities:
- Strategic CM/JDM Management
- Demonstrate deep and/or broad expertise in supply chain management, acting as a subject matter expert in the CM/JDM management.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy to optimize delivery, quality, and cost while mitigating potential risks, for key CM/JDM partners.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with CM/JDM partners at both the working and executive levels.
- Manage supplier contracts, including periodic reviews and renegotiations to ensure favorable terms for Motive.
- Conduct regular business reviews (QBRs) with suppliers, including quarterly metrics reviews and bi-annual strategic alignment meetings.
- Manage and resolve supplier-related issues and escalations effectively and timely.
- Hold suppliers accountable for contractual agreements and drive continuous improvement in cost, quality, and delivery.
- Collaborate with suppliers to ensure long-term strategic alignment in both products and technologies.
- New Product Introduction (NPI):
- Build strong cross-functional relationships to enable NPI projects from concept to EOL.
- Lead the RFP negotiation and facilitate a cross-functional, data-driven and objective supplier selection process.
- Negotiate favorable terms with suppliers, including NRE, sample costs, production costs, Capex, reliability testing, certification testing, and other related expenses.
- Support NPI efforts to ensure suppliers meet contractual obligations. Manage escalations during NPI as needed.
- Ensure appropriate capacity is in place to support business volume.
- Operations Management:
- Ensure suppliers understand Motive's forecasts and orders and deliver accordingly.
- Review supply commitments weekly and resolve material shortages, capacity constraints, and other delivery issues. Develop forward looking strategies to ensure material and capacity availability.
- Manage purchase orders and update supply plans in Motive's ERP system.
- Collaborate with planning to optimize air/ocean shipments for product availability and cost-effectiveness.
- Collaborate with quality and testing engineering teams to ensure the product quality complies with Motive’s specifications and requirements.
- Develop strategies with CM/JDM to reduce lead times and overall liability.
- Cost Optimization:
- Understand the cost model at the CM/JDM, including BOM and MVA breakdowns, to ensure cost reasonableness and favorability.
- Identify cost reduction opportunities and develop and execute cost optimization roadmaps in collaboration with internal teams (product, engineering, commodity management) and suppliers.
- Coordinate post-ramp qualification efforts to qualify second sources, increase production capacity, and improve product design.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
- 8+ years of experience in supply chain management, contract manufacturing, or a related field, preferably in the consumer electronics industry.
- Proven experience in managing CM/JDM in related industries.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, cost structures, and supply chain dynamics.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong supplier relationships.
- Proactive and self-driven, with a strong sense of ownership. Possesses excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and resolve issues independently.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.
- Proficiency in ERP systems and Google Docs/Microsoft Office Suite.
- Fluent in English and Mandarin Chinese.
- Experience working in a global environment.
