Role overview
This role sits in the Data & AI Governance function and focuses on platform engineering and infrastructure ownership to ensure the reliable and scalable operation, integration, and development of Data & AI Governance platforms across the FT.
The role is responsible primarily for designing, integrating, optimising, and maintaining cloud-native platform infrastructure and services enabling metadata management, data lineage, data quality, data access, data retention, data compliance and data sharing in a dynamic, cloud-native data platform.
The successful candidate is expected to take technical ownership of the key data governance systems, namely SageMaker Unified Studio (SMUS) and the infrastructure-as-code solution Data Innovation Workbench (DIW), ensuring their reliability, security, scalability, and effective integration within the broader FT data platform.
The role contributes to the FT’s broader Data & AI Governance strategy by ensuring that governance technology is robust, well-integrated and capable of scaling with increasing demand or in response to evolving industry best practices.
The role will report directly into the Data Governance team but requires close collaboration with the FT’s DevOps, Data Engineering, BI, Data Science and Cyber Security functions.
Context & Drivers for the Role
Data & AI Governance capabilities at the FT are increasingly dependent on well-integrated, cloud-native tools. Currently, the technical ownership of these tools is distributed across multiple teams.
As adoption grows, and the governance tools ecosystem expands, there is a need for clear technical ownership centralised in the Data Governance team to enforce consistent infrastructure standards and scalable integration patterns.
Responsibilities
These responsibilities reflect the current scope of the role and will evolve over time as the FT advances its data governance and platform capabilities.
Governance Platform Technical Ownership & Reliability
- Act as the technical owner of SageMaker Unified Studio (SMUS) and Data Innovation Workbench (DIW), ensuring high availability, reliability, and security
- Serve as the primary point of contact for platform-related infrastructure issues and escalations
- Ensure that technical metadata, data lineage, and data quality is consistently captured, accurate, and reliable via SMUS
- Ensure consistent governance enforcement across integrated AWS services for all Data handling services (e.g., S3, Redshift, MSK, MWAA) via SMUS.
Infrastructure & DevOps
- Define and implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) standards using primarily AWS CDK, CloudFormation, and Terraform
- Manage and optimise cloud-native infrastructure to ensure scalability, resilience, and maintainability
- Plan and execute infrastructure changes, upgrades, and platform improvements with minimal service disruption.
System Integration
- Collaborate with system owning teams to setup and maintain integration between SMUS and other systems such as data stores (Redshift, S3, MongoDB), Streaming platforms (Kafka/MSK) orchestration tools (e.g., Airflow, MWAA)
- Ensure lineage metadata is accurately captured and maintained as pipelines evolve
- Design, deploy, and support integrations with additional systems (e.g. analytics tools, streaming platforms, operational databases).
Performance, Compliance & Cost Monitoring
- Monitor platform usage, performance, and capacity to ensure systems scale effectively with demand
- Track and optimise cloud infrastructure costs, establishing best practices for cost efficiency
- Implement monitoring, alerting, and observability for platform health.
- Enable audit, monitoring, and compliance reporting for all SMUS platform activities
Continuous Improvement & Strategy
- Contribute to the development of standards and best practices for governance tooling and infrastructure
- Advise on platform evolution, including AWS service adoption, architectural improvements, and system upgrades
- Support the broader data governance strategy by ensuring platforms enable effective governance at scale.
- Work in close partnership with FT’s Data Platform team to ensure governance capabilities are natively embedded into platform services, architectures, and delivery processes.
Required Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in a DevOps, platform engineering, or cloud infrastructure role
- Hands-on experience with AWS cloud services and infrastructure
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (CDK, CloudFormation, Terraform)
- Experience supporting (ideally, owning) production-grade cloud platforms and services
- Experience monitoring, analysing, and optimising cloud costs using best practices and tooling
- Experience in setting up and supporting CI/CD pipelines, familiarity with CircleCI or willingness to acquire one
- Understanding of cloud security best practices and compliance requirements
Additional (Desirable) Skills & Experience
These skills are not required at entry but will enhance early success in the role and represent key areas for development with support from the FT
- Experience implementing data governance capabilities in cloud-native environments
- Understanding of metadata, data lineage, and data & ai governance concepts
- Experience working with data platform data engineering workflows in AWS environment (e.g., Redshift, S3)
- Familiarity with SQL or willingness to acquire one
- Experience with data pipeline orchestration tools such as Airflow
- Experience with identity and access management (IAM), SSO integration, and role-based access control

You will work alongside Investment Risk Managers and other Engineers to deliver solutions that enable daily risk analysis and the continuous improvement of the Man Risk Platform. Required
- Strong programming experience in C#/.NET

The Team
We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Database Platform Engineer to join a team of highly skilled Engineers and DBAs who are responsible for managing the Oracle, PostgreSQL, MongoDB and SQL Server database estate.
The team are responsible for the day-to-day support and administration of the Oracle, MongoDB, SQL Server and PostgreSQL database estate including engineering and all database related projects. The role involves working closely with other Infrastructure teams as well as developers and end users.
This role also offers the opportunity to work on exciting technologies like Docker, Kubernetes and exposure to other DevOps aligned methods of automation, real time monitoring and metrics collections using latest Open-Source toolsets; Grafana and InfluxDB etc.
Role Responsibilities
- Administer and manage the Oracle, PostgreSQL, MongoDB and SQL Server database estate.
- Collaborate with other technology teams to identify and implement optimal solutions for Man Group.
- Demonstrate a willingness to learn new technologies in this area.
- Ensure the rollout of a standards-based estate using relevant configuration management tools.
- Plan capacity for physical and virtual database servers.
- Ensuring high availability of the infrastructure and minimising the duration and impact of any outages.

Key Competencies
Required
- Deep knowledge of Oracle or PostgreSQL RDBMS.

About the Role
We're hiring a Team Lead for one of the most consequential engineering teams at Delasport - the team that owns KYC, AML, anti-fraud, and regulatory compliance across the platform.
These aren't peripheral services. They're what makes it legally possible for our operators to take a bet in every market we're licensed in. Every player who signs up, every withdrawal, every suspicious pattern, every regulator report - it flows through systems your team owns. When a new jurisdiction comes online, your team is on the critical path.

What Your Team Owns
You'll lead a team of 5 full-stack developers and 2 QAs responsible for:
- KYC - identity verification pipelines, document checks, and third-party provider integrations
- AML - transaction monitoring, sanctions and PEP screening, suspicious-activity detection
- Anti-Fraud - behavioural analysis and fraud-pattern detection across player activity
- Regulatory Compliance - jurisdiction-specific rules, reporting obligations, and operator configurations
The footprint is a mix of synchronous APIs, scheduled jobs, and real-time stream consumers processing events off Kafka and RabbitMQ.
What You'll Actually Work On
- Shaping the future stack. Today the team works across PHP/Laravel, Python, and TypeScript/Vue. All new services will be written in Node.js, and you'll be a key voice in shaping how that evolution unfolds - patterns, shared libraries, deployment standards.
- Driving technical excellence. Setting and raising the bar on performance, reliability, and operational maturity across the team's services.
- Real ownership of production. The team owns its services end to end - design, build, ship, observe, fix. You set the standard for how that ownership is exercised.
- Growing the team. Seniors ready to push toward staff-level work; mids ready to grow into seniors. Your impact on them will be one of the most rewarding parts of this role.
What You’ll Do
- Lead the team. Set technical direction, code-quality bar, and architectural standards. Run code reviews that teach. Develop the engineers under you.
- Stay hands-on. This is not a pure people-management role. You'll write code, design systems, and pair on hard problems.
- Architect for the real world. Design services that handle real-time event streams reliably, fail safely under regulatory scrutiny, and integrate cleanly with the third-party providers we depend on.
- Drive the technical roadmap. Make and defend the calls on what to refactor, what to rewrite, and where to invest the team's time.
- Partner across the org. Work closely with Product, DevOps, Data, and the Compliance/Legal side of the business - the last of which is unusual for an engineering role and one of the more interesting parts of the job.

Who You Are
- Experience: 7+ years building backend systems in PHP, including 2+ years leading a team or operating as a senior technical lead.
- Core technical strength:
- Strong PHP and OOP fundamentals - design patterns, clean architecture, testability.
- Production experience with Laravel (or strong Symfony experience and the willingness to ramp on Laravel).
- Comfortable working with event-driven systems - Kafka, RabbitMQ, or equivalent. You've built and operated consumers, not just published a message once.
- Solid grasp of relational databases (MySQL/PostgreSQL) - schema design, query performance, the things that bite at scale.
- Working experience with NoSQL (MongoDB, Redis, Elasticsearch, or similar) - knowing when to reach for it and when not to.
- Comfortable with Docker, containerised deployments, and at least one cloud (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
- Architecture sense: You can reason about scalability, fault tolerance, and failure modes - and explain trade-offs to people who don't share your background.
- Leadership: You lead by setting direction and raising the bar of those around you, not by managing tickets. Strong written and spoken English.
- Mindset: Pragmatic, bias toward shipping, comfortable with ambiguity, genuinely interested in the business problem and not just the technical one.

This role offers exposure to complex, large-scale projects and the opportunity to contribute to QA processes, automation strategies, and quality standards across the organization, while providing a strong environment to learn, develop, and grow as a QA professional.
How You’ll Make an Impact:
- Follow existing processes, methodologies, and technologies that enhance product quality and all testing initiatives within the company.
- Design and implement comprehensive test cases, including manual testing(automation is a plus), to ensure high-quality of software releases.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including developers and product managers, to ensure clear communication and understanding of testing requirements.
- Log bugs and defects, be able to analyze logs to identify their root causes.
Employees may be required to participate in an on-call rotation, ensuring availability outside regular working hours to respond to urgent issues as needed as per the On call policy.
Who you are:
- At least 2-4 years of quality assurance experience in Agile Development environments.
- Thorough understanding of Agile and QA testing methodologies and practices.
- Familiarity with software development work management and collaboration tools (e.g. Jira, Confluence, etc.).
- Ability to work in a highly dynamic and fast-paced environment.
- Experience with web-based application testing.
- Experience with databases (SQL Server, MongoDB).
- Experience in multi platform testing - mobile, native applications.
- Solid understanding of client-server model, HTTP basics, as well as JSON and XML.
- Experience working with version control systems like Git/BitBucket.
- Experience with Postman or any of API testing tools.
- Experience in testing regulations per jurisdictions.
- Experience working with Xray or other test management tools (e.g., TestRail, Zephyr).
- Experience with CI/CD tools like Jenkins.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience with creating internal guidelines and documentations.

Position Overview
FT Core is seeking talented and motivated Senior Backend Engineer to join our Content & Metadata team. This team is responsible for the Content & Metadata platform which enables the publishing, delivery, and enrichment of the digital content produced for the FT products. The team is starting its journey to rethink the way how content is published and consumed, and as a member of this team, you will be laying the foundation for the next generation of APIs and capabilities used across the FT’s products and services.
We are looking for someone who is passionate about learning new technologies, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and is eager to solve complex problems. While we value experience in our technology stack (Go, Kubernetes, AWS, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, Neo4j, Kafka, and Elasticsearch), we are open to candidates with diverse backgrounds who are quick learners and have a strong foundation in software development.
Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and maintain efficient, reusable, and reliable code for our microservices architecture.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and ship new features.
- Work with various databases to design and optimise data models and queries.
- Implement, optimise, and maintain cloud infrastructure.
- Identify bottlenecks and bugs, and devise solutions to these problems.
- Maintain code quality, organisation, and automatization.
Requirements:
- Proficiency in at least one programming language (experience in Go is a plus).
- Basic understanding of microservices architecture and containerization technologies.
- Familiarity with cloud infrastructure and services.
- Experience with databases (relational, document, or graph).
- Understanding of fundamental design principles behind a scalable application.
