The Recommendations team drives personalized experiences across our platform by leveraging state-of-the-art machine learning. Our mission is to deliver meaningful, context-aware recommendations that adapt to each user's preferences in real time. About the Role
We seek an outstanding, creative, and passionate Machine Learning Platform Engineer to join Roku's Recommendation team. In this role, you will design, build, and scale robust distributed systems that power the next generation of personalized content recommendations for millions of Roku users. You will focus on developing end-to-end machine learning platforms and infrastructure, ensuring seamless deployment, monitoring, and optimization of algorithms and operational workflows that deliver unique experiences at scale.
For California Only - The estimated annual salary for this position is between $229,500 - $367,100 annually. Compensation packages are based on factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, certifications, and specific geographical location. What You'll Be Doing
- Design, build, and maintain scalable platform services: feature store, real-time inference services, vector DBs etc., that serve millions of transactions per second
- Run and monitor online AB tests via robust platform services, analyzing platform metrics and business KPIs to optimize recommendation system performance
- Collaborate closely with US-based engineering and cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into modular platform components and APIs
- Enhance and evolve the ML platform ecosystem to support high developer velocity, system scalability, and adaptability to future business needs
- Contribute to onboarding, training, and mentoring new team members on emerging platform engineering best practices and technologies
We’re Excited If You Have
- 5+ years of experience building software solutions to concrete problems
- Strong CS fundamentals. Should be able to write an algorithm with ease
- You are fluent with one of high-level programming languages like Java, Scala, Kotlin or Python
- We’d love to see that you’ve worked with big data systems (Spark, Kafka, Flink, S3, AirFlow)
- Familiar with model ML framework and tools: Ray, PyTorch, HuggingFace, AWS Sagemaker
- AI literacy and curiosity. You have either tried Gen AI in your previous work or outside of work or are curious about Gen AI and have explored it.

The Team: Marketplace Quality Engineering:
Every second, our bidder evaluates millions of ad opportunities across thousands of publishers and supply paths. Not all of that supply is created equal — some of it is duplicated, some is structurally inaccessible, and some degrades advertiser outcomes. The Marketplace Quality Engineering team exists to make sure our platform is buying the right impressions, not just more impressions.
We own the systems that assess, measure, and optimize supply quality across the programmatic ecosystem. Our work spans deduplication, supply path analysis, quality modeling, and the tooling that turns those signals into decisions at bid time. The problems are technically deep — think identity resolution across fragmented supply chains, statistical modeling to separate signal from noise, and real-time decisioning at platform scale — and they have direct, measurable impact on both advertiser outcomes and platform economics.
This is not theoretical work. When we ship a model update, spend distribution across the platform shifts. Our engineering decisions translate directly into tens of millions of dollars of measurable business impact. If you want to build systems where what you ship visibly matters, this is the team.
You will work with C# / .NET as a core strength, alongside Python and SQL where data and automation need it, and partner closely with product, data, and platform teams across time zones.

Key Responsibilities:
CI/CD and Automation
- Design, implement, and maintain scalable and reliable CI/CD pipelines (e.g., using GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Spinnaker) to ensure rapid and safe deployments across multiple environments.
- Drive the adoption of best practices for build management, testing automation, and deployment strategies (Canary, Blue/Green, etc.).
- Minimize deployment friction and cycle time for all engineering teams.
Self-Service Infrastructure & Provisioning
- Develop and champion self-service tooling and internal platforms (leveraging tools like Terraform, Ansible, Kubernetes, or equivalent cloud provider APIs) that empower development teams to provision and manage their own infrastructure resources securely and efficiently.
- Establish guardrails and policy-as-code to ensure compliance, cost efficiency, and security across all provisioned infrastructure.
AI Infrastructure Enhancement & Support
- Collaborate closely with AI/ML Engineers to improve the underlying platform used for model training, experimentation, and serving.
- Focus on the operationalization of MLOps pipelines, including data lineage tracking, feature store integration, and production model deployment automation.
- Assist in optimizing resource allocation (e.g., GPU usage, specialized hardware) for AI workloads.
Workflow Automation & Internal Tooling
- Architect and build automated workflows and bots, primarily within communication tools like Slack or Zoom, to streamline common engineering tasks (e.g., on-call handoffs, incident response, environment status checks, approval processes).
- Develop internal APIs and services that connect disparate engineering systems to enhance communication and cross-functional transparency.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of professional experience in Platform Engineering, DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), or a related discipline.
- Deep expertise in cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform strongly preferred).
- Expertise in containerization and orchestration technologies (Docker and Kubernetes).
- Proficiency in scripting and general-purpose programming languages (e.g., Python, Go, Bash).
- Extensive experience designing and managing CI/CD systems at scale.

Preferred Qualifications

Efficient is seeking a CAD Lead - PD flows/infrastructure to join our growing team. The ideal CAD Lead would have worked on significant portion of the full gamut of Physical Design flows and flow infrastructure (flowtracer etc). This role is in a newly formed hardware engineering group and is the seed hire for this discipline. You will get to setup CAD flows and infra from scratch and influence and shape this aspect in the future.

Key Responsibilities
- Drive and develop PD flows, methodology for state of the art finfet and multi patterning based technologies from scratch in Cadence Tempus or Synopsys Primetime.
- Help develop repeatable, predictable , design and process agnostic PD flows.
- Develop state of the art flow infrastructure to enable consistent and rapid design under tight schedule constraints for multiple product lines in the energy efficient edge AI computing market.
- Work closely with PD team leads to propose and develop end to end build and signoff flows.
- Build regression frameworks for ensuring high quality flows and achieve hardware engineering vision of spending 90% or more time on actual design tasks and NOT wrestling with tools.
- Develop collateral quality checking utils to ensure high design efficiency.
- Develop and deploy a unified environment for specifying all collaterals (stdcell, memory, PDK, hardips…) and all flow dependencies (cycle time, PVTRC corners, per flow design and process dependent configuration).
- Work with 3rd party vendor resources and coordinate their work.
- Continuously work on improving flow consistency and efficiency in the context of multiple product lines.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in Electrical Engineering with 5+ years of industry experience or PhD in Electrical Engineering with 3+ years of industry experience
- Strong python other scripting programming skills.
- Experience in developing workflow orchestration infrastructure or tools for hardware development (Airflow, flowtracer etc)
- Familiarity with kubernetes and containerization
- Experience implementing regression frameworks
- SQL or other database proficiency (MongoDB ..)
- Intimate knowledge of hardware design workflows for Physical Design and RTL/DV.
- Excellent scripting skills in TCL, shell and python.
Desired Qualifications & Experience Requirements
- Experience in full chip RTL/DV and PD flows.
- Knowledge of circuit design, device physics, deep sub-micron technology, and SOI technology and its implications to physical design
- Proficiency with industry-grade physical design flow and hands-on building CAD flow infrastructure for PD engineers.
- Definition of design constraints for static timing analysis (synthesis, pre/post‑cts, sign‑off) and corners/voltage definitions.
- Experience in integrating analog or mixed-signal macro on top-level design.
- Experience in verifying IP collaterals.

We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer focused on Fan and Duct Design to own the end-to-end development of the robot’s airflow systems from early impeller geometry prototypes to production-ready assemblies released to manufacturing.
Responsibilities:
- Own the mechanical design of the robot’s fan assemblies: impellers, housings, ducts, diffusers, seals, shrouds, baffles, and mounting structures.
- Translate CFD-engineered impeller geometry into fully detailed, moldable components with proper drafts, ribs, gates, cooling channels, and tooling strategies.
- Develop manufacturable plastic parts (injection-molded), metal components, and hybrid structures for quiet, efficient airflow.
- Select, qualify, and integrate fan motors including BLDC, slotless motors, PMSMs, or custom motor architectures depending on system targets.
- Collaborate with motor vendors and CMs to determine winding specs, bearings, back-EMF constants, and long-life design constraints with additional support from the Figure motor team
- Support thermal and acoustic engineers by designing test fixtures, running airflow tests, and validating fan performance.
- Own iterative cycles: prototype → measure → redesign → retest.
- Drive supplier engagement on tooling, gating, draft strategies, warpage control, and tolerance analyses.
- Partner with GSM and CMs to close out DFM, tooling release, mold trials, and FAIs.
- Create drawing packages, GD&T, BOMs, and assembly instructions for production.
- Collaborate with CFD, thermal, acoustics, system architecture, IDand manufacturing teams to converge on a highly optimized fan system.
- Work with global suppliers to evaluate materials, molding processes, motor options, and assembly methods.
- Provide hands-on build support for engineering units and early factory runs.
Requirements:
- 5+ years experience in mechanical engineering, electromechanical design, turbomachinery components, or similar.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Aerospace, or related field.
- Expert in 3D CAD modeling and surfacing; comfort with complex geometries derived from CFD.
- Deep understanding of mechanical design for airflow systems: fans, ducts, impellers, shrouds, or related components.
- Experience turning CFD geometry into manufacturable CAD suitable for tooling.
- Familiar with experimental methods for measuring flow, pressure, and acoustic performance.
- Strong DFM knowledge for injection molding, tooling, and assembly.
- Ability to write clear documentation, test plans, and release packages.
Bonus Qualifications:
- Experience with small BLDC fan motors, custom motor sourcing, or electromechanical integration.
- Background in acoustics, noise reduction, vibration isolation, or fan blade noise characterization.
- Experience with high-volume plastic injection molding and tool releases.

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer focused on Thermal Prototyping to rapidly design, prototype, and test thermal solutions that reduce noise and improve system reliability across our robot platform. This role is extremely hands-on: continuously building models, running benchtop experiments, instrumenting components, and helping push the boundaries of silent thermals for humanoid robotics.
Responsibilities:
- Design, build, and iterate 3D CAD models of thermal components: heat sinks, cold plates, airflow channels, fans, ducts, insulation, and passive/active cooling structures.
- Prototype concepts using FDM/SLA prints, CNC, sheet metal, foam, gasketing, and rapid thermal mockups.
- Run experiments that characterize noise sources and thermal loads across heat generating components including motors, gearboxes, electronics, and actuators.
- Evaluate fan characteristics and system impedance to optimize for minimal acoustic signature
- Instrument prototypes with thermocouples, microphones, accelerometers, airflow sensors, and DAQ hardware.
- Perform thermal bench testing, steady-state and transient measurements, and acoustic testing (near-field, far-field).
- Perform smoke tests, dye flow visualization, and IR thermography to understand heat flow and hotspot mechanisms.
Requirements:
- 2+ years of experience in mechanical, thermal, or electromechanical hardware development.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Thermal Engineering, Mechatronics, or similar.
- Strong 3D CAD proficiency
- Experience building prototypes and running hands-on thermal/acoustic tests.
- Familiarity with simulation tools (CFD, FEA, or equivalent).
- Comfort working with fans, heat sinks, interface materials, and general thermal componentry.
- Ability to design, execute, and document structured experiments.
