Required:

• 3+ in Windows desktop application development using Windows App SDK, WinUI (or similar), C#, XAML — and ideally additional experience with native Windows code (C++, Win32/WinRT/COM).

You will be responsible for acting as a technical reference in security, certifications, and internal controls, serving as a bridge between engineering, risk, audit, and business stakeholders.
You will define strategies, support risk-based decision-making, and ensure that security and compliance requirements are effectively embedded into processes, systems, and products.

Key responsibilities

• Act as a senior technical and governance reference across security, certifications, risk, and internal controls, influencing strategy.
• Identify control gaps and improvement opportunities in technical procedures required for certification and recertification processes  (e.g., ISO 27001, PCI-DSS).
• Develop and maintain strong partnerships with business and technical leaders to orchestrate audits, assessments, and remediation plans in a risk-based and scalable way.
• Collaborate with technical teams to define action plans that ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and internal policies.

• Conduct assessments of internal controls, ensuring adherence to internal policies, legal requirements, and industry standards.
• Identify gaps and improvement opportunities in the internal controls landscape and lead control reviews, ensuring timely resolution of issues.
• Work closely with Risk teams to align on the mitigation of identified risks.
• Support responses to audit requests, regulatory inquiries, and due diligence from business partners.

• Partner with Engineering, Product, IT, and global teams to integrate compliance and security requirements into processes and systems.

• Define and monitor KRIs and KPIs, delivering forward-looking, data-driven insights to senior management and Committees.
• Drive continuous improvement and scale, simplifying processes and strengthening Nubank’s Security Maturity as the company grows globally.

Qualification Requirements

• Solid experience in information security, with strong knowledge of frameworks such as PCI-DSS, ISO 27000 family, NIST, and similar.
• Prior experience with security certification processes and/or internal controls, compliance, and audit support.
• Excellent executive communication skills, capable of translating complex topics into clear, actionable insights for senior leadership and committees.
• Experience operating in regulated and global environments, including interaction with auditors and regulators.
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Technology, Security Information, Risk Management or related fields.
• Familiarity with using AI and automation (e.g., machine learning, generative AI, or LLM-based tooling) to enhance security compliance use cases.
• Knowledge of the regulatory landscape relevant to financial services, such as SOx, BACEN, CVM, CNBV, ANBIMA, SEC, and related regulations.
• Hands-on experience with cloud environments (e.g., AWS, GCP) and implementing security controls in these contexts.
• Advanced English (written and verbal) required.

• Relevant certifications such as CRISC, CISA, Security+, CISSP, or CISM are considered a strong plus.

International experience is highly desirable.

At Nubank, our Credit Card platform is the core of our global expansion. We are looking for a Staff Engineer to join our platform team as a technical anchor, ensuring our systems remain scalable and flexible as we maintain sustainable growth and innovation in the countries where we currently operate, while also launching into new international markets. You will play a vital role in evolving the architecture of one of our most complex and strategic products.

You will operate within a high-impact triad alongside Product and Management, focusing on long-term technical strategy and system health. As a hands-on technical leader, you will challenge the status quo, propose innovation and solve deep architectural problems, mentor and become a technical reference for our engineering team. Your work will directly enable millions of customers to access financial products via credit card worldwide.

Responsibilities

• Define and drive the long-term vision and strategy for the global architecture of the core credit card platform, ensuring exponential scalability and continuous evolution capability.
• Lead the strategic partnership with Product and Business leadership (C-level and VPs) to shape the medium and long-term technical roadmap and define the strategic OKRs and global impact KPIs.
• Act as a technical and cultural reference, defining the highest standards of engineering excellence, mentoring other Architects and Principal/Staff Engineers, and fostering a culture of innovation and accountability.
• Lead and resolve the most ambitious and high-risk technical challenges, intervening in critical performance or resilience bottlenecks and driving technical execution for solutions with multi-system and multi-country impact.
• Design and oversee the execution of complex system transformations (e.g., core banking migrations, replacement of legacy platforms) ensuring regulatory compliance in multiple jurisdictions and fiscal regimes, proactively mitigating risks.
• Communicate and defend the technical strategy eloquently and convincingly to the executive board and non-technical audiences, translating architecture decisions into business value and competitive advantage.

Required Qualifications

• Principal/Staff Engineer level experience or equivalent with an extensive and demonstrable history in architecting and scaling mission-critical, high-volume, and low-latency systems in global fintech or e-commerce environments.
• Expert proficiency (demonstrated in code and design) in multiple programming paradigms, with significant hands-on experience in functional programming (e.g., Clojure, Scala, Haskell) and reactive/event-based architectures.
• Proven ability to establish and lead the long-term technical strategy for entire platform ecosystems (not just isolated components), influencing the direction of multiple engineering groups.
• Deep and successful experience in navigating and defining the architecture in highly regulated financial environments (e.g., BACEN, FCA, SOX) and designing systems to meet data residency requirements and complex cross-border transactions.
• History of successfully leading and completing large-scale platform transformations (e.g., transition from monoliths to microservices mesh, migration of data centers or clouds), managing risks and operational impact.
• In-depth knowledge of credit card/payment systems design is a significant differential.

• Experience with Clojure or similar functional languages.

Senior Staff Engineer, Investments Platforms

The Opportunity:

This position is for an Senior Staff Software Engineer to join the Investments Business Unit.

Investments Platforms is responsible for the core platforms that model Nubank’s investments business: custody, offer, order management, accounts, settlement and related domains. These platforms are the long‑term home for our investments capabilities and the main path to move away from legacy Invest systems that still handle a large portion of critical flows today. Your mandate is to help design, evolve and execute this environment and comply with regulatory requirements.

Core Qualifications (What We're Looking For)

• 12+ years of software engineering experience, including 5+ years working on large‑scale platforms or core systems in highly available, transactional environments (finance, payments, core banking, trading, etc.).

• Proven track record building and operating business platforms that are extensible, multi‑tenant and domain‑agnostic – e.g., custody, payments, banking, risk or similar – with clear contracts for consuming teams.

• Experience leading strategic migrations from legacy to new architectures: co‑existence patterns, strangler approaches, staged rollouts and data migration strategies that keep systems up while flows move off legacy.

• Strong foundation in distributed systems and event‑driven architectures: domain modeling, consistency and resiliency strategies, backpressure, observability, SLIs/SLOs and incident learning loops.

• Demonstrated platform engineering leadership at scale: defining reference architectures and RFCs, building reusable libraries and tools, setting platform SLAs, and making adoption low‑friction and high‑quality for internal customers.

• Comfortable working as a horizontal leader across stakeholders: aligning GMs, PMs, EMs and Staff/Principals on trade‑offs between speed, risk, platform consistency and product goals.

• Deep experience mentoring and multiplying senior engineers – raising the bar on architecture, design reviews, documentation and post‑incident retrospectives.

• Investments expertise: hands‑on experience with investments platforms (brokerage, custody, order management, funds, fixed income, equities, settlement, risk) and understanding of the Brazilian capital markets landscape.

• Platform background: prior work on other platforms (payments, core banking, investments) that shows you can design high‑abstraction, agnostic, extensible platforms and translate complex domains into clean boundaries and APIs.

• AI fluency: you are already experimenting with AI in your engineering practice (design exploration, code generation/review, analysis, automation) and are excited to help Nubank push its AI‑first agenda in a pragmatic, safe way.

• Language: Portuguese fluency is important; English is a plus rather than a hard requirement. We are open to strong IC8 candidates who can ramp up their English over time, and will trade off language in favor of outstanding technical and leadership fit where it makes sense.
