Role Description

• As an Senior Value Engineer specializing in the Energy Sector, you are pushing the envelope in solving business-critical problems for our strategic customers across utilities, oil & gas, and renewable energy. You will be working with our most strategic energy clients, understanding their unique objectives—from grid modernization and asset lifecycle management to navigating the energy transition—and building Celonis solutions using the world’s leading Process Intelligence (PI) platform in combination with the largest AI and ML technology partners, such as Microsoft, OpenAI, and Databricks.
  
  With Celonis’ Process Intelligence (PI) platform, we feed operational context to AI so it understands our customers’ complex business realities (bridging IT and OT systems) and enables them to industrialize AI, unlocking real ROI on deployments at scale. You will prototype these solutions, demonstrate their value to Energy Executives, and ensure successful implementation, adoption, and value realization in order to increase the footprint of Celonis across the global energy landscape.

Key Responsibilities:

• AI Discovery & Solutioning: Understand energy customers' AI strategy and sector-specific challenges (e.g., predictive maintenance, outage management, supply chain resilience, or regulatory compliance). As a Celonis product and energy domain expert, find the best problem-solution fit and translate customer requirements into innovative solutions that move the needle.

• Pre- and Post-Sales Execution: Actively drive the full customer lifecycle. Lead technical discovery and capability demonstrations during the pre-sales cycle, and remain deeply involved post-sale to guide implementation, ensuring agreed value and adoption thresholds are successfully reached.

• Hackathons & Prototyping: Think out of the box, have a „can-do“ attitude, and don’t shy away from complex operational problems. Leverage cutting-edge AI technologies to rapidly build creative prototypes in customer hackathons, solving critical pain points specific to power generation, transmission, and O&G operations.

• Agentic Process Transformation: Support our customers in achieving real ROI out of AI deployments at scale, enabling a fundamental shift from traditional, rule-based automation to the use of autonomous AI agents empowered by our Celonis Process Intelligence Platform (e.g., intelligent field service routing or autonomous procurement).

• Proof Projects: End-to-end execution of business-critical Proof-of-Value projects. This includes architecting and delivering secure, scalable LLM/agent systems with RAG, tools, and guardrails, while seamlessly integrating with enterprise data, identity protocols, and stringent energy compliance frameworks.

• Domain & Industry Leadership: Serve as the internal and external technical subject matter expert for the Energy vertical, scaling knowledge across the organization regarding utilities, upstream/downstream oil & gas, and renewable energy processes.

Requirements:

• 5+ years of experience leading technical pre-sales and post-sales engagements specifically within the Energy sector (Utilities, Oil & Gas, and/or Renewables). This includes defining AI roadmaps, building compelling ROI/TCO business cases, and guiding technical implementations through to value realization.

• Deep understanding of business processes native to the Energy sector (such as Asset Management, Field Services, Supply Chain, Capital Projects, or Trading) with the ability to translate high-level business needs into specific, impactful AI use cases.

• Expertise in generative AI techniques like RAG, few-shot learning, prompt engineering, multi-agent orchestration, multimodal understanding, or fine-tuning used to build high-impact use cases (e.g., automated processing of engineering documents, regulatory filings, or intelligent diagnostic chatbots).

• Solid knowledge of Python and common ML libraries (such as LangChain, pandas, pydantic, sklearn, PyTorch) as well as data engineering tools and technologies relevant to handling large-scale industrial data.

• Strong presentation skills to both internal and external stakeholders (including C-level executives and operational leaders), whether leading technical whiteboarding sessions or formal readouts and demos.

• Bachelor’s Degree required; Master's Degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or related fields, or equivalent work experience preferred.

Nice to have (big plus):

• Hands-on experience building agentic systems using LLM orchestration, RAG, function calling, and prompt engineering, while ensuring safety through rigorous evaluations and guardrails suited for highly regulated industries.

• Working knowledge of tools in the LLM ecosystem such as LangChain, LlamaIndex, or other OSS packages.

• Experience in deploying and monitoring models at scale across major cloud platforms (AWS Bedrock, Azure AI, GCP Vertex) and familiarity with IT/OT convergence and industrial IoT data structures.

The Role:

As a Senior or Lead Consultant, you lead our agile project teams to accelerate our customers’ digital transformation and drive Celonis’ international expansion. You identify our customers’ strategic priorities and lead your project team towards developing data-driven process insights and actions to ensure that customers receive maximum value. You always leverage the newest features and functionalities of the Celonis software, such as Process Automation, Task Mining and Machine Learning. 

The work you’ll do:

Initiate 

• Conduct Business workshops to translate customers' strategic objectives into high-impact Celonis use cases
• Coordinate with Data Operations team from Celonis to connect our solution to the customer IT environment (data extractions)

Implement

• Lead the Celonis implementation project to ensure the optimal solution to tackle the defined use cases (Data modelling, Data transformations, Process analysis building, KPIs building)
• Use our Celonis technology to identify process inefficiencies and understand the root causes, always in close collaboration with the customer

Adopt 

• Lead the value creation workshops and define measures to improve process inefficiencies
• Define the most relevant KPIs measuring the customer’s success
• Quantify the business and financial potential and present the findings to the management
• Automate tasks to drive value and improve the process conformance rate

Monitor and enable

• • Manage customer expectations and project planning
  • Demonstrate and train customers users (set the foundation of the path to value to make the long-term customer success journey happen

The qualifications you need:

• (Senior) 4+ years working experience in IT-Consulting, Solution/Data Consulting or Process Improvement Consulting, within Software Vendors, Consulting firms or System integrators
• Demonstrated ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions (Data models) 
• You are knowledgeable of data related languages (SQL Required)
• Highly Preferred: Good knowledge of Python and common ML libraries (such as LangChain, pandas, pydantic, sklearn, PyTorch) as well as data engineering tools and technologies.
• A strong appetite for value driven approaches (KPIs definition, business case calculations, value realization approaches) and Data topics (Big Data, Data Mining, and Process Mining)
• General understanding of companies business processes and related financial metrics and are willing to learn in this area. Knowledge of standard ERPs (SAP and related business processes (Order to cash, procure to pay…) is a strong plus. 
• Willing to develop a strong expertise on a solution through a continuous learning approach
• Strong consulting skills and enjoy interacting with various customers (Business workshops up to solution demonstrations)
• Excellent analytical skills, well-organized and you are known for being a quick learner
• Fluency in English
• Bachelors or Masters in: Technology Management, Business Informatics, Computer Science, Information-oriented Business Administration/ Economics, Mathematics or a comparable degree program

What You Need:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, AI, ML, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Demonstrable expertise and hands-on experience in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, with deep knowledge in at least one specific AI domain (e.g., NLP, LLMs, Speech Recognition).
• Proven experience (typically 3+ years) designing, building, and evaluating AI/ML models and systems.
• Strong programming skills, particularly in Python and familiarity with common ML libraries/frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-learn, Hugging Face).
• Solid understanding and practical experience with Large Language Models (LLMs) and associated concepts, including Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) and various prompting techniques (e.g., Zero-shot, Few-shot, Chain of Thought).
• Experience implementing services or applications built on top of foundational LLMs (via APIs or open-source models).
• Proven ability to thrive in a small, highly collaborative team environment with an urgent, results-oriented culture. Significant experience in startups or similar fast-moving, resource-constrained organizations is highly desirable.
• A relentless curiosity and passion for exploring new technologies and techniques in the AI/ML space.
• Experience using LLM-powered IDEs or coding assistants.

• Master’s degree or PhD in Computer Science, AI, ML, or a related field.
• Experience with LLM training, fine-tuning (e.g., LoRa), and/or developing custom evaluation benchmarks.
• Familiarity with advanced AI architectures and concepts such as agentic systems (e.g., ReAct), multi-modal models, Mixture of Experts (MoE), or LLM tooling/external capabilities.
• Experience with MLOps practices and cloud-based ML platforms (e.g., AWS SageMaker, Azure ML, Google AI Platform).

What You'll Do:

• Drive end-to-end ownership of high-complexity, high-visibility data science projects, independently navigating ambiguity from problem definition through production deployment and business impact measurement.

What You Need:

• Education:  
  • Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science; graduate degree in Data Science or other quantitative field is preferred.
• Experience: 
  • 7+ years of directly related data science experience, with a demonstrated record of independently delivering impactful, production-grade ML/AI solutions; or a graduate degree plus 5+ years of equivalent experience.
  • Prior experience in a technical lead or informal management capacity is strongly preferred.
• Skills:
  • Expert-level proficiency in Python, with deep knowledge of the data science and ML ecosystem including pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch, and MLflow or equivalent MLOps tooling.
  • Advanced mastery of statistical inference, experimental design, and machine learning, including hypothesis testing, causal inference, regression, classification, clustering, deep learning architectures, and model evaluation at scale.
  • Expert knowledge of data structures, SQL, and distributed data processing frameworks (e.g., Spark, BigQuery, Snowflake); strong familiarity with REST APIs and cloud-based ML platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
