Position Overview
- Schedule – Monday through Friday 7am to 4pm - Flexibility to work additional hours may be required to meet company/project needs.
- On-Site Requirement: This position requires on-site presence at the project in Gresham, OR, during scheduled hours based on company and project needs.
- Compensation Package–
- $95,000 - $115,000 / year
- Other compensation may include vehicle allowance.
- The above compensation is a range. Offers are made based upon a candidate’s experience and the geographical location of this position.

What We’re Looking For
- 3+ years of experience in multifamily construction with a certification or degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or Architecture.
- Minimum 6+ years of experience in multifamily construction with an unrelated degree or without a certification or degree.
- Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field preferred.
- Proficient in AutoCAD, Procore, and Microsoft Office.
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and engineering principles.
- Demonstrates exceptional attention to detail and organizational abilities.
- Proficient in effective communication and teamwork.
- Maintains a positive outlook and embraces a collaborative team approach.
- Shows responsibility and takes pride in their work.
- Fluent in English, with strong reading, speaking, and writing skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
Your Role
Project Operations
- Assist with preparing and updating project schedules, budgets, and related tasks.
- Coordinate subcontractors and material deliveries to ensure project completion.
- Identify and address problems to maintain project progress.
- Oversee tasks assigned to employees and subcontractors.
- Provide project documentation, including logs, billing, change orders, and memos.
- Ensure proper inventory and maintenance of tools on-site.
- Enforce company safety and security policies and procedures.
Budgeting & Cost Analysis
- Procure competitive bids for construction projects.
- Communicate with utilities, city, and county agencies to determine fees and charges.
- Write and monitor purchase orders, back-charges, and change orders.
- Verify and code invoices for payment and ensure vendor lien releases are obtained.
Quality Assurance
- Maintain company quality standards in procedures and workmanship.
- Ensure projects are completed on time, under budget, and meet quality expectations.
- Conduct frequent site visits to verify organization, cleanliness, and progress.

Position Summary
The Structural Engineer will lead seismic compliance and certification efforts for IEM’s low- and medium-voltage power distribution equipment, ensuring products meet regulatory, code, and customer requirements for high-seismic regions. In addition to seismic qualification, this role will support research & development and product engineering teams by assisting with the structural design of internal equipment structures, skids, frames and containerized power solutions. This position plays a critical role in enabling market access, improving product performance, and supporting innovation across IEM’s product portfolio.

The ideal candidate is a technically strong, hands-on professional who combines deep structural engineering expertise with practical experience in seismic testing, qualification and analytical studies. They thrive in cross-functional environments, working with engineering, sales, and customers to translate complex seismic requirements into executable testing and compliance strategies.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage seismic compliance for low- and medium-voltage power distribution equipment, including both standard products and custom design-to-order offerings.
- Own the planning, execution, and documentation of seismic qualification programs in accordance with ICC-ES AC156, IBC, UBC, IEEE 693, and related standards.
- Manage HCAi (formerly OSHPD) seismic preapprovals, enabling maximum flexibility for custom design-to-order equipment.
- Collaborate with our clients’ Structural Engineers of Record (SEOR) and AHJs on site-specific studies and approvals for custom-engineered equipment.
- Coordinate the design, fabrication, and analysis of seismic test articles in collaboration with product development and manufacturing teams.
- Plan, schedule, and support shake table testing at external laboratories, including travel to witness and support tests.
- Review test data, evaluate results, and prepare technical reports and certification submittals.
- Support R&D and product development by designing and optimizing structural components within electrical equipment.
- Design and analyze equipment skids, frames, enclosures, and containerized or modular power solutions.
- Provide structural guidance on anchorage, load paths, vibration, and transport-related considerations.
- Support continuous improvement of structural design practices, seismic strategies, and internal engineering standards.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Structural or Civil Engineering (structural emphasis required); Master’s degree preferred.
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required; California licensure strongly preferred.
- 5–10 years of experience in structural engineering, with a focus on seismic design and nonstructural component qualification.
- Demonstrated experience with HCAi preapproval processes.
- Strong working knowledge of ICC-ES AC156, IBC, UBC, and IEEE 693
- Experience designing structural steel components, frames, skids, and equipment support structures.
- Ability to translate code and test requirements into practical, manufacturable designs.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, sales, and customers.

We are currently seeking to add a Transportation Civil Engineer to our dynamic team in Portland, Oregon.
Our Transportation Civil Engineers perform civil engineering design work in a team environment, working with other engineers, project managers, and Apex staff across multiple service disciplines. The selected candidate will prepare and oversee various elements of design work including roadway sections; intersection layout and sight distance determination; construction staging & traffic control; signing & striping; ADA design; interchange layout; roadway drainage including hydraulic reports; alignment/right-of-way plans; temporary erosion control plans; site preparation plans; roadway profiles; and utility plans.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in civil or Transportation Engineering
- Professional Engineer License (P.E) in Oregon and/or Washington, or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire
- 7+ years of design experience
- A solid understanding of civil engineering with a focus on state or local government roadway design
- Proficient with Microsoft Office, AutoCAD Civil3D, MicroStation Inroads, or other design software as appropriate; roadway CADD and modeling experience required
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Willingness to work in fast paced environment across multiple disciplines and project types
- Flexibility and creativity in project approaches, and openness to learn and develop
- Experience Working in a Consulting Firm or Municipal Engineering Department
- Familiarity with local development codes and standards
Desirable Qualifications
- A strong background in road and highway design in Oregon and/or Washington
- Experience working in a Consulting Firm having delivered state and local agency PS&E projects
- Familiarity with the AASHTO, MUTCD, and ODOT/WSDOT Design Manuals
Primary Job Responsibilities
- As a key member of a roadway/highway design team, assist in the management of moderate to large-scale projects and independently manage smaller projects using local or AASHTO standards;
- Perform civil engineering design tasks associated with state and local municipal public works projects, and private development projects;
- Self-manage project tasks, effectively manage multiple assignments, and maintain active communication with project managers;
- Mentor and lead junior staff through delivery of projects;
- Effectively manage the following work elements:
- Day-to-day internal and external communication (verbal and written);
- Support and advise junior engineers and technical staff to develop PS&E documents;
- write reports and technical memos;
- coordinate with subconsultants, keep project on schedule and within budget, and keep client satisfied;
- Understand project scopes and budgets with support to project manager to maintain delivery within project success metrics;
- Participate and represent Apex in professional organizations and functions;
