WHAT YOU WILL DO:
As a People Business Partner, you will align business objectives with employees and management across designated business units. You will collaborate across the HR function to deliver value-added services that reflect the organization’s goals, while maintaining a strong understanding of the business unit’s financials, culture, and competitive landscape.
This hybrid role is based at our New Albany, OH client site 3–4 days per week, with on‑site perks including complimentary breakfast, lunch, and snacks.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for complex and high‑risk employee relations cases, including performance concerns, misconduct, grievances, complaints, and terminations.
- Lead and conduct thorough, impartial workplace investigations, including documentation review, witness interviews, findings summaries, and recommendations.
- Partner closely with managers to resolve ER issues proactively, providing hands‑on coaching through corrective action, discipline, and termination processes.
- Provide real‑time legal and risk‑based guidance to leaders on employee issues to ensure compliance and minimize exposure.
- Ensure consistent and fair application of company policies, procedures, and employment laws.
- Advise on performance management cases, including coaching plans, warnings, PIPs, and disciplinary outcomes.
- Manage sensitive matters such as harassment, discrimination, retaliation, accommodation, and leave‑related issues.
- Escalate and collaborate with legal counsel as appropriate on high‑risk or litigious matters.
- Track and analyze ER trends to identify systemic risks, recurring issues, and areas for manager education.
- Maintain accurate, defensible documentation for all ER matters.
- Support restructures, workforce changes, and terminations with a strong focus on risk mitigation and compliant execution.
- Conduct regular check‑ins with business leaders to address emerging ER concerns and reinforce best practices.
- Provide guidance on policy interpretation and application in complex or ambiguous situations.
- Perform other ER‑related duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
- Extensive experience managing complex employee relations cases, including investigations, disciplinary actions, and terminations.
- Proven experience supporting a California‑based employer with strong working knowledge of CA employment law.
- Minimum 3-4 years of hands‑on ER experience in a fast‑paced or high‑volume environment.
- Deep understanding of employment law, employee relations, compliance, and risk management.
- Demonstrated ability to navigate sensitive situations with sound judgment, discretion, and empathy.
- Strong experience advising leaders through difficult employee decisions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, particularly for investigation findings and documentation.
- High attention to detail with the ability to produce clear, defensible ER records.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with a pragmatic, business‑oriented mindset.
- Ability to manage multiple high‑priority cases simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
- SHRM‑CP or SHRM‑SCP certification (or ability to obtain within one year).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and HRIS platforms.
DESIRABLE CRITERIA:
- Experience mentoring or coaching within HR teams.
- Exposure to international HR matters and expatriate support.
- Warehouse/Data Center HR experience preferred.

Summary
We are seeking an experienced Workers' Compensation Paralegal to join our team. As a Workers' Compensation Paralegal, you will work closely with our talented attorneys providing support before, during and after trials.
Responsibilities
- Prepare legal documents including pleadings, motions, affidavits, complaints, legal memoranda
- E-file all court documents in state and federal court
- Communications with clients, court, counsel, and others.
- Conduct legal research and factual investigation
- Prepare discovery documents, interrogatories, and responses
- Draft and server summons
- Coordinate and summarize depositions
- Prepare trial binders and exhibits
- Drafting pleadings, motions and appellate documents and filing them with the court
- Performing administrative duties (calendar hearings and deadlines, organize case files, manage logistics)
- Maintain pleadings and discovery indexes
- Organize exhibits, documents, evidence, briefs, and appendices
- Aid attorney with interrogatories and other discovery requests
- Gather relevant information from a variety of sources
- Liaise between trial teams and internal/external third parties
- Witness preparation
- Assisting with case settlements
- Other tasks as requested by the attorney
Qualification
- Associate degree, certificate, or equivalent work experience (preferred)
- 2+ years of litigation experience (preferred)
- Completion of a nationally accredited paralegal program (preferred)
- Experience in Personal Injury, WC, Premises, or other injury related practice areas (preferred)
- Must possess the ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage workload with a positive attitude and minimal supervision
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, proficient in calendaring depositions, mediations, and hearings
- Applicable knowledge of motions, discovery, evidence, litigation documentation, court rules, and procedures, practices, etc.
- Highly organized with the ability to juggle multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Extensive computer and database expertise; Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and type no less than 35 wpm

Other Responsibilities Include:
Legal Administration Functions
- Coordinate CDF loan closings, including engaging counsel and title, tracking documents and approvals, and ensuring timely completion.
- Review loan and real estate documents and coordinate internal and external review.
- Manage closing checklists, communications, conditions, and fund disbursements to keep transactions on schedule.
- Ensure all required documents are collected, properly filed, and maintained pre‑ and post‑closing.
- Assist with drafting and reviewing governance documents, board resolutions, committee minutes, and selected contracts.
- Maintain organized legal, business, property, contract, and regulatory records.
Executive Administration Functions
- Provide executive support, including calendar management, communications, and meeting coordination.
- Organize and support meetings and events, including logistics, materials, and onsite assistance.
- Serve as in‑house support for Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism when handling sensitive information.
- Act as a welcoming point of contact for visitors and incoming calls.

- Maintain organized digital and physical filing systems for administrative records.
- Draft, edit, proofread, and format reports, presentations, and other documents as needed.

Qualifications:
- Experience supporting legal transactions or closings.
- Working knowledge of legal terminology, procedures, ethics, and records management.
- Proven ability to review and manage legal or contractual documents with accuracy and confidentiality.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including editing and proofreading.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); familiarity with data management or website publishing tools a plus.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and take ownership of assignments.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, organizational, and time‑management skills with high attention to detail.
- Professional, positive interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively across all organizational and community levels.

As the Senior Attorney, Beyond Guilt Project Director, you will serve as a senior attorney and project leader responsible for overseeing OJPC’s post‑conviction legal advocacy work. This role is ideal for an attorney who enjoys both hands‑on litigation and leading people and projects, and who brings a thoughtful, strategic approach to case selection, workload management, and long‑term impact. This is a part-time, exempt position (approximately 20-30 hours per week, with flexibility).
As the Senior Attorney, Beyond Guilt Project Director, you will:
- Lead and oversee the Beyond Guilt Project’s post-conviction docket (approximately 20–30 client matters annually), coordinating work across attorneys, a paralegal, pro bono counsel, interns, and volunteers.
- Personally litigate approximately 6-12 post-conviction cases each year, including judicial release motions, parole advocacy, sentence modifications, plea withdrawals, motions for new trial, and post-conviction petitions.
- Oversee case intake, prioritization, and assignment, balancing staff capacity with strategic impact and sustainability.
- Work collaboratively with prosecutors, community partners, and—when appropriate—crime survivors to negotiate release outcomes.
- Guide investigations, mitigation development, and reinvestigations.
- Collaborate with OJPC leadership and the Litigation Director to develop and execute high-impact litigation strategies.
- Prepare clients and their supporters for court proceedings and parole hearings.
- Partner with community organizations to support client release planning and post-release stability within the scope of representation.
- Assist with applying for grants, tracking program data, and completing portions of grant reporting for Beyond Guilt.
- Participate in public speaking, community education, and advocacy efforts related to criminal justice reform.
- Collaborate with development and policy staff to advance OJPC’s decarceration and system-reform priorities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Juris Doctor or advanced law degree.
- Admission to the Ohio Bar (or eligibility consistent with Ohio Supreme Court rules).
- Minimum five (5) years of litigation experience.
- Strong legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills.
- Experience supervising attorneys, legal teams, or managing complex legal projects.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse clients, colleagues, and stakeholders.
- A demonstrated and abiding commitment to social justice and criminal legal system reform.
- Significant post‑conviction litigation experience preferred.
- Experience litigating judicial release, resentencing, or parole matters.
- Strong project management and team leadership skills.
- Experience integrating litigation with broader policy or system‑reform efforts.
- Comfort using legal case management systems (e.g., Clio).
