Role Summary
In this role, you will drive end-to-end reliability for our Solid-State Transformer (SST) platform, from concept to field deployment. You will lead cross-functional teams to mitigate program risks via Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA)/Fault Tree analysis (FTA) and set clear reliability benchmarks for supplier selection. By developing advanced Physics-of-failure (PoF) modeling and performing expert-level RCA, you will ensure our hardware meets the demanding lifetime required for modern energy infrastructure. 

Responsibilities: 

• Assist in the setup and execution of reliability test plans for SST’s, including thermal mapping and accelerated life testing. 

• Utilize statistical methods to analyze test data, identifying trends in component or system-level failures. 

• Participate in DFMEA sessions, helping to document risks and track mitigation actions. 

• Perform initial root-cause analysis on failed components using lab equipment (microscopes, X-ray, etc.) and coordinate with senior engineers on complex investigations. 

• Assist in building reliability block diagrams and basic PoF models to predict product lifetime. 

• Work closely with the Design and Manufacturing teams to communicate test results and ensure reliability targets are met. 

• Maintain detailed records of test procedures, lab results, and reliability reports for key milestones. 

• Ability to travel occasionally to different facilities to support hardware deployment and testing. 

Qualifications: 

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Reliability Engineering. 

• Strong understanding of power electronics fundamentals and circuit analysis. 

• Basic familiarity with reliability statistics (Weibull distribution, MTBF) and a desire to master advanced Bayesian and Monte Carlo methods. 

• Comfortable working in a high-voltage lab environment; experience with basic diagnostic tools (Oscilloscopes, Multimeters). 

• Interest in learning reliability tools such as ReliaSoft (Weibull++, ALTA) or simulation software like Ansys Sherlock.

The Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP) is a US government-wide program that provides a standardized approach to security assessment, authorization, and continuous monitoring for cloud products and services. Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in backend or distributed systems engineering, including production deployments in scalable environments.  

• Strong experience with Go and building production backend services.  

• Proven experience designing systems for high concurrency, high availability, and fault tolerance.  

• Experience building backend platforms for operational systems such as MES, ERP, analytics, workflow engines, or other enterprise/business-critical software.  

• Strong understanding of API design, microservices, distributed system patterns, and asynchronous/event-driven architectures.  

• Experience with databases and data systems such as PostgreSQL, Redis, MQTT, NATS, ClickHouse, or similar technologies.  

• Familiarity with real-time data processing, telemetry pipelines, and backend systems that support dashboards, reporting, and analytics.  

• Experience with observability and production operations, including logging, metrics, tracing, alerting, and incident debugging.  

• Familiarity with cloud infrastructure and containerized deployment environments such as AWS, Kubernetes, and Docker.  

• Strong testing discipline across unit, integration, and end-to-end service validation.  

• Comfortable working with AI coding tools such as Copilot, Cursor, Claude, or similar tools to supplement and accelerate development.

What you’ll be driving

• Own the solution space across our operational tooling, translating complex operational workflows into reliable, user-facing software across multiple verticals, including:

• Work closely with Operations, Customer Support, Engineering, and Product to design and develop end-to-end integrated solutions, combining off-the-shelf tools, low-code platforms, and custom-built software where it makes sense.
• Build and maintain real-time, interactive operational dashboards, including charts, maps, and data-dense interfaces, over operational databases and the data warehouse
• Build fleet intelligence capabilities over real time telemetry to identify and self heal (where possible) anomalies in an EV fleet of teledrivable vehicles

Overview

As the Industrial Engineer - Warehouse Design & Automation, you will be a technical leader responsible for designing, engineering, and scaling warehouse facilities across a multi-site fulfillment network. Your primary mission is to translate business demand and growth forecasts into data-driven, buildable warehouse designs that optimize throughput, labor efficiency, space utilization, and cost.

This role partners closely with Operations, Real Estate, Facilities, IT, Finance, and external automation vendors to deliver standardized, scalable solutions for greenfield builds, expansions, and retrofits. You will bring a strong systems mindset, deep understanding of material flow, and a bias for simplicity, operability, and long-term sustainability.

What You’ll Do

Warehouse Design & Engineering

• Design end-to-end warehouse layouts for new facilities, expansions, and retrofits, supporting high-throughput fulfillment operations.
• Engineer material flows from inbound receiving through outbound shipping, ensuring efficient, safe, and ergonomic processes.
• Define building-level requirements including dock counts, clear heights, column spacing, power, floor loading, and equipment zoning, in partnership with cross-functional teams.
• Develop and maintain layout drawings, design assumptions, and engineering narratives for leadership, finance, and vendor review.

MHE & Automation Engineering

• Specify, evaluate, and engineer material handling and automation systems including:
• Conveyors, sorters, and divert systems
• Pick modules, pallet flow, case flow, and mezzanines
• AMRs, AGVs, and goods-to-person solutions
• Packaging, labeling, dimensioning, and weighing systems
  
  
• Develop functional specifications, throughput targets, and redundancy strategies for automation systems.
• Partner with integrators and vendors through RFPs, design reviews, FAT/SAT, commissioning, and go-live support.

Capacity Modeling & Data Analysis

• Build capacity, throughput, and labor models using forecasted volumes, SKU profiles, and order characteristics.
• Analyze peak scenarios, seasonality, and failure modes to stress-test designs.
• Quantify trade-offs between labor, automation, space utilization, service levels, and cost.
• Use post-launch operational data to refine assumptions and continuously improve design standards.

Financial Analysis & Business Case Development

• Develop CapEx and OpEx estimates for MHE and automation investments.
• Support ROI, payback period, and total cost of ownership analyses.
• Partner with Finance and Leadership to support capital planning and investment decisions.
• Drive standardization across facilities to reduce engineering variability and lifecycle cost.

Launch Support & Continuous Improvement

• Support warehouse launches and expansions through go-live and stabilization.
• Partner with Operations, Maintenance, and Controls teams to resolve systemic design issues.
• Perform post-launch audits and feed learnings back into network design standards and playbooks.
• Document and maintain reference designs, engineering standards, and best practices.

• Alternatively, equivalent hands-on experience designing warehouse automation systems may be considered.
• 5+ years of experience in warehouse design, material handling engineering, or automation.
