Job Description

Rhombus’ Data Engineers are instrumental in designing and implementing data engineering activities on topical, mission-driven projects that inform our national security agenda. They analyze, build, and maintain our organization’s data infrastructure and processing systems. As a Data Engineer, you’ll perform various code development and query needs for integration with new and existing applications, dashboards and machine learning pipelines. You’ll work cross functionally with other departments and utilize your skills at all stages of the analytics pipeline to create results that drive business values and customer success! You’ll be asked to travel to client sites where you’ll engage and collaborate directly with the client to discuss data pipelines, solutioning, and to ensure a strong client connection.

Responsibilities:

• Develop code using various programming and scripting languages to automate data ingestion and improve data management processes.
• Architect data repositories, stand up data platforms and develop data pipelines for ingestion, transformation, and aggregation.
• Review existing architecture, data strategy, and improve processes for data governance, data quality, and metadata management.
• Extract and analyze raw data from multiple data sources via APIs, SQL Stored Procedures, or Python scripts.
• Ability to develop scripts and programs for converting various types of data into usable formats and support project team to scale, monitor and operate data platforms.
• Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team of analysts, data scientists, data engineers, developers, and data consumers in a fast-paced, agile environment.
• You’ll use your experience in analytical exploration and data examination while you manage the assessment, design, building, and maintenance of scalable platforms for clients.
• Communicate project status and results to various levels of leadership.

Qualifications:

• A Bachelor’s degree in Data Analytics, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems/Sciences, or other relevant area (or equivalent experience) and at least 1 year of professional experience, or a Master’s degree with strong academic project experience.
• Experience with 1 or more programming and scripting languages, with a strong focus on Python, Pandas and Numpy. Other languages include: Shell, PERL, Java, C/C++/C#, Scala, etc.
• Experience with 1 or more of the following relational, noSQL and/or file based storage (e.g. MYSQL, MongoDB, SQL Server, Oracle, Postgres, Hbase, DynamoDB, etc.)
• Experience building and maintaining ETL data pipelines
• Experience with software development life cycle including testing, documenting, delivery and support
• Working knowledge of AWS/cloud technologies
• Experience using query optimization as well as data modeling techniques.
• Familiarity with machine learning frameworks (such as TensorFlow, Scikit-Learn, etc.)

What will your day look like?

As a Senior .Net Backend Developer, you'll design, implement, and maintain high-performance APIs and services that form the backbone of our marketing process applications. You'll collaborate closely with the Lead Software Application Architect and front-end teams to create seamless integrations between our CMS-based Activation Briefing application for CRM and paid media automation tools.

More specifically, you will:

• Develop and maintain scalable backend services using .Net 9 focusing on performance, security, and reliability
• Design and implement RESTful APIs and microservices that support the content briefing workflows from clients through various automation and quality assurance tools
• Collaborate with the Lead Software Application Architect to implement the technical vision and architectural patterns across backend systems
• Integrate with various marketing activation platforms, Digital Asset Management systems, and third-party APIs
• Optimize database design and queries for SQL Server and Cosmos DB to ensure efficient data storage and retrieval
• Implement robust authentication, authorization, and data security measures to protect client information
• Create and maintain containerized applications running in Azure, utilizing Azure App Services, Functions, and other cloud-native services
• Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines for automated testing and deployment
• Implement logging, monitoring, and alerting systems to ensure high availability and quick issue resolution
• Mentor junior developers and conduct code reviews to maintain code quality and share knowledge
• Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams including front-end developers, QA engineers, and product managers

What do you bring to the table?

You are a problem-solver with a passion for creating efficient, maintainable backend systems. You communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders and thrive in collaborative environments.

More specifically, you have:

• Proven experience (7+ years) developing applications with .NET Core/Framework, with at least 3 years of experience with .NET 6 or newer
• Strong expertise in C#, REST API design, and microservices architecture.
• Experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) and cloud deployment in Azure and Google Cloud.
• Proficiency with SQL Server, Entity Framework, and document databases like Cosmos DB or similar
• Experience implementing authentication and authorization using OAuth/OpenID Connect
• Solid experience of working with software design patterns and SOLID principles
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices

Ideally you also have:

• Knowledge of messaging systems and background processing (Azure Service Bus, Pub/Sub, RabbitMQ)
• Experience with Python 3.X and or Node.js 2x is beneficial but not strictly required.
• Experience with automated testing (unit, integration, and performance)
• Familiarity with agile development methodologies
• Experience integrating with CRM systems and marketing automation platforms.
• Knowledge of GraphQL - beneficial but not required

The opportunity:

This program of work is central to VML’ continued success, helping augment their world class AI with a back-office workflow platform. The value add is to enable agencies to manage their work end to end within our innovate platform.

This is a greenfield program of work to replace their existing workflow system with bespoke .Net development using a microservice architecture in Azure and Kubernetes.

What you’ll be doing:

• Write clean, scalable code using .NET programming languages
