Position Overview

We are seeking an OSS Test & Automation Engineer to join the team responsible for developing our core network platform – OSS. In this role, you will act as the primary owner of OSS workflow automation development and test engineering. Your primary focus will be to build, test, document and maintain automation processes executed within the OSS platform - covering network operations, service assurance, reporting, and partner integration workflows. At the same time, you will tightly collaborate with internal Service Assurance and Service Delivery teams to gather requirements, transfer knowledge about the developed automation processes, and receive feedback about the required improvements and changes. You are not a pure QA resource since you are an automation developer who also ensures what is built is verifiably correct and operates as expected by the end users. 

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and maintain automation workflows and orchestration scripts executed within our own OSS platform, covering network operations, fault management, service assurance, reporting, and inventory
• Own and grow the automation backlog - identify manual, error-prone, or repetitive operational processes as candidates for automation, estimate effort, and drive items through to production delivery
• Design, implement, and maintain automated test suites that validate automation workflows under both nominal and fault/edge-case conditions
• Execute test plans, document results, track defects, and drive resolution in collaboration with all involved internal teams
• Produce clear test documentation of test plans, test cases, test reports, and coverage summaries
• Cooperate with internal Service Assurance and Service Delivery teams by fostering knowledge transfer, gathering requirements, and jointly identifying next steps in developing new automated workflows and processes
• Proactively identify automation failures, performance degradations, or reliability issues and drive root-cause analysis and remediation
• Continuously improve automation reliability, coverage, and maintainability based on operational feedback and incident learnings
• Act as first line contact and support line for internal Service Assurance and Service Delivery concerning OSS automated processes and workflows already introduced into production
• Maintain clear, accurate documentation for all automation workflows introduced 

Qualifications 

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, telecommunications or a related field — or equivalent professional experience.

Experience & Qualifications:

• A minimum of 3+ years of professional experience in automation engineering, test engineering, or a combined software/QA role, preferably in telecom, network operations, or OSS/BSS systems.
• Proven experience designing and building automation workflows, orchestration scripts, or operational automation pipelines — not just test scripts
• Solid proficiency in Python or any other scripting language and familiarity with modern test frameworks (e.g. pytest, Robot)
• Familiarity with at least one workflow orchestration or BPM tool (e.g. Camunda, Apache Airflow, Ansible, or similar)
• Ability to query and manipulate data in SQL and/or NoSQL databases
• Strong command of test strategy design, test case development, test automation frameworks, and defect lifecycle management
• Familiarity with telecom OSS concepts like FCAPS, TMF eTOM framework or similar operational support system concepts
• Practical exposure to network operations workflows and/or service assurance processes
• Working knowledge of NETCONF/YANG, SNMP, or TMF Open APIs as integration surfaces for automation workflows
• Familiarity with OSS platforms, NMS/EMS systems, or network simulation tools used for test environment setup
• Hands-on experience integrating automation with REST APIs and event-driven messaging systems (e.g. Kafka, RabbitMQ, SQS)
• Experience embedding quality gates and automated tests into CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, or equivalent)
• Practical experience with monitoring and logging tooling (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack, or equivalent) for making automated workflows observable in production

About the Role

VulnCheck is looking for a Red Team Systems Administrator / Lab Manager to build, maintain, and operate the lab infrastructure that supports our vulnerability research team. This role is responsible for standing up and managing a research environment that includes networking equipment, IoT / OT devices, and the supporting compute, storage, and network infrastructure our researchers depend on to discover, analyze, and validate vulnerabilities.

You'll work closely with our exploit developers and threat researchers to ensure they have reliable, secure, and reproducible environments for testing against real-world hardware and software. The lab is central to VulnCheck's mission — our researchers need to move fast, and the infrastructure has to keep up. While this is a hybrid role, the position requires regular onsite management of physical lab equipment in the Fort Meade, MD area. 

What You'll Do

• Design, build, and maintain the physical and virtual lab infrastructure used by VulnCheck's vulnerability research team.
• Procure, configure, and manage networking equipment (routers, switches, firewalls, wireless access points) and IoT / OT devices used for security research and exploit validation.
• Manage lab network architecture — including segmentation, VLANs, out-of-band management, and isolated test environments to safely run exploit code against live devices.
• Administer Linux and Windows servers, hypervisors, and virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware, Proxmox, KVM) that host vulnerable software and services for testing.
• Maintain firmware libraries and device inventories, ensuring researchers have access to specific hardware and software versions needed for vulnerability analysis.
• Provide remote access infrastructure (VPN, jump hosts, remote console access) so distributed team members can interact with physical lab equipment.
• Automate environment provisioning, configuration management, and lab reset workflows using tools such as Ansible, Terraform, or similar.
• Monitor lab systems for availability, performance, and security — and respond to issues promptly.
• Collaborate with researchers to understand upcoming research targets and proactively prepare the lab environments they need.
• Manage vendor relationships for hardware procurement, warranties, and RMA processes.
• Document lab architecture, procedures, and runbooks to ensure operational continuity.

What You'll Bring

• 8+ years of experience in systems administration, lab operations, or infrastructure engineering.
• Strong hands-on experience with Linux system administration (Ubuntu, CentOS/RHEL, or similar).
• Solid networking fundamentals — TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, firewall configuration, and routing.
• Experience managing and configuring networking equipment (Cisco, Juniper, MikroTik, etc).
• Familiarity with IoT devices and embedded systems — comfortable working with serial consoles, JTAG, firmware flashing, and device provisioning.
• Familiarity with OT/ICS devices and protocols is a huge plus.
• Experience with virtualization and containerization technologies (VMware, Proxmox, KVM, Docker).
• Experience with configuration management and infrastructure-as-code tools (Ansible, Terraform, or similar).
• Ability to work independently and manage priorities across multiple concurrent research efforts.
• Strong documentation habits and clear written communication.
• Scripting skills in Python, Bash, or Go for automating lab workflows; familiarity with Go is a plus. 

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience using Claude or other AI models for task automation. 
• Prior experience supporting a security research, penetration testing, or red team lab environment.
• Prior cybersecurity work experience (at a vendor or in government).
• Experience managing physical lab infrastructure remotely, including out-of-band management (IPMI/iLO/iDRAC), remote PDUs, and KVM-over-IP.

We are seeking a highly motivated and versatile Senior IT Administrator to be the dedicated on-site IT presence for our College Park office and the primary technical resource for two nearby satellite lab locations. This critical role involves providing hands-on support across the entire IT spectrum, including end-user helpdesk, A/V management, networking, and critical project work.

Responsibilities:

Onsite IT Operations and End-User Support

• Primary Technical Liaison: Serve as the dedicated, primary technical point of contact for the main College Park office, providing scheduled, expert support visits to two satellite lab locations in the region.
• Helpdesk & Desktop Support: Deliver hands-on Level 2 support, specializing in the timely diagnosis and resolution of all hardware, software, connectivity, and printer issues for local staff.
