At BakerHicks, our supply chain management professionals ensure the responsible sourcing of products and sub-consultant services for client projects during the construction process. Combining on-site experience with best-practice procurement methods, we’re experts in keeping a project on track through the seamless integration of our clients, design teams and supply chain.
The team is offering the opportunity to join the business through an apprenticeship.
In this role, you will be supported through the Level 6 Chartered Surveyor Degree Apprenticeship (Quantity Surveying & Project Management Pathway) via Nottingham Trent University. As part of the apprenticeship, you will attend the University on a day release programme to undertake the theoretical engineering qualification supported by a learning mentor to complete the apprenticeship and end point assessment (EPA).
You will learn from, and be mentored by, senior members of the team, as you assist the project commercial team in carrying out project procurement and cost control activities.

Why This Role?
Our Supply Chain team has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Buyer – Procurement to join the business on a 12‑month Fixed Term Contract (maternity cover). Based in our Manchester office, this role offers a hybrid working arrangement and the chance to support a wide range of projects across BakerHicks.
Working closely with project and work‑winning teams, you will play a critical role in supporting the procurement and management of Professional Services Agreements across the full project lifecycle. This is a key role within our Professional Services supply chain, ensuring robust commercial governance, compliant procurement practices, and strong supplier relationships that enable successful project delivery.
About You
This role will suit an experienced procurement professional who thrives in a fast‑paced engineering or construction environment and enjoys working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams. You will bring a proactive, hands‑on approach and be comfortable managing multiple workstreams while maintaining attention to detail and commercial rigour.
You will be joining a team of professionals who value continuous improvement, accountability, and constructive challenge. There is scope to influence procurement strategies, improve supply chain performance, and support wider business objectives, while working closely with legal, commercial, and project delivery colleagues.

About The Role:
You’ll be responsible for managing approximately 900–1,000 commissioned hours weekly across four to five service packages. This includes direct line management of over 30 support staff, including bank workers. Your leadership will be key in fostering a positive team culture, enhancing staff wellbeing, and ensuring consistent, high-quality support for individuals with complex needs.
This role combines operational leadership with financial accountability. You’ll oversee rotas, staffing levels, recruitment, and retention, while ensuring each service remains financially sustainable. Flexibility is essential, as the role includes participation in a rotational on-call schedule covering seven days a week.
