The Payroll Specialist Lead - China payroll is a critical role within Remote’s dynamic global payroll organization. Nestled within our EOR and Payroll Operations Team, this role is responsible for delivering accurate, compliant payroll operations within assigned countries while also contributing to the improvement and scalability of our global payroll processes.
You will work closely with internal stakeholders across Payroll Operations, Tax, Finance, Product and Customer Success, while coordinating with diverse payroll partners where applicable.
This role is well suited for a mid-to-senior career payroll ops professional who has deep hands-on experience running payroll in complex environments and is comfortable operating in globally distributed teams.

JOB PURPOSE :
Analyst will be responsible for period end close activites, ensures accuracy and timeliness in processing all general ledger entries, fixed assets transaction, bank transactions, financial and management reporting, accounts reconciliation, statutory audit and tax computation while adhering to WPP group and company policies and procedures.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Ensure accuracy and timeliness in processing general ledger entries, fixed assets transaction, banking transaction, preparing financial and management report, balance sheet reconciliation, supporting local statutory and tax (direct and indirect) in accordance WPP policies and procedures, local accounting standard and requirements.
• Work closely with WPP Operating Units (OpCo) Finance to understand current activities and ensure all changes are reflected in financial statement.

• Proactively work with team lead/assistant manager to identify, propose and implement continuous process improvement opportunities in existing processes.

What you'll need:
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE :
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field, and/or professional accounting qualification (ACCA/CPA/MIA etc.)

JOB PURPOSE :
• The Finance Operations Manager supervises the RTR team, ensuring accurate and timely recording, collection, and processing of all general accounting and reporting, fixed assets, statutory accounting, bank transactions, direct and indirect tax transactions while adhering to Group and Company policies and procedures. The role also oversees RTR related projects for process improvement.
• Responsible for the overall management and operations of the RTR function, ensuring quality delivery of services and in a timely manner while adhering to standards, policies and procedures of WPP Group, Operating Companies and WPP SSC MY.
What you'll be doing:
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Ensure the team’s accurate and timely delivery of general accounting and reporting, fixed assets, statutory accounting, direct and indirect tax activities (i.e. journal postings, GL maintenance, report preparation, reconciliations, tax submissions, etc.) in accordance with SLAs.
• Manage and coordinate the reconciliation of the respective systems. Review the closing reports (flash, actual, SOX) to ensure the reports are completed in accordance with Group Policies and Procedures (including WPP Policy Book, policies and procedures published in InsideWPP, etc)
• Provide RTR related advice and information to staff across the organisation as and when required.
• Regularly monitor and resolve outstanding issues that have been escalated, or further escalate to the necessary parties.
• Familiar with ICFR controls, update RCM (Risk Control Matrix) & communicate change to OpCo when required. Ensure processes are in compliance with ICFR
• Liaise & collaborate with internal/external stakeholders as and when necessary.
• Coordinate Service Review Meetings with OpCo’s and teams on a periodic basis
• Implement best practices and proactively identify, propose and implement continuous improvement opportunities in existing processes within the team.
• Lead & drive process changes within RTR functions
• Plan and manage transition of work from new agencies or countries into SSC MY
• Set KPI for the team and ensure KPI is met
• Perform people management responsibilities, which include planning & assigning tasks, team performance appraisal, coaching & development & involve in hiring.
• Maintain a good stakeholder management with OpCo and across different departments within SSC MY

JOB PURPOSE :
Ensure the organization’s compliance with direct tax regulations (corporate income tax, GST, through accurate reporting, timely filings, and proactive risk management. Provide technical expertise on compliance support on direct & indirect tax specialist matters to finance and business teams. Corporate tax work covers countries for Malaysia, Singapore & India and indirect tax for Singapore.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES :
• Prepare and review corporate income tax for 3 countries Malaysia , Singapore & India and GST returns for Singapore, ensuring all filings are accurate and submitted on time.
• Monitor changes in local tax laws and regulations in both Malaysia and Singapore& India; analyse impact and recommend actions.
• Coordinate with finance, external auditors, and tax authorities during audits, queries, and assessments.
• Support tax provision, tax computations, deferred tax calculations, and related financial statement disclosures.
• Conduct tax reconciliations, maintain required documentation, and ensure compliance with transfer pricing requirements.
• Provide compliance support on business transactions, new projects, and cross-border tax implications.
• Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and compliance in tax operations.
• Assist with Direct & Indirect tax compliance reviews
• Maintain up-to-date records and ensure timely registration/deregistration for tax purposes.

PROCESS IMPROVEMENT AND STANDARDIZATION
• Drive continuous improvement of tax compliance and reporting processes in both countries.

• Lead or support the implementation of new systems, new reports automation tools, or best practices to enhance efficiency and control.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to harmonise workflows and reduce manual or duplicative effort.

STAKEHOLDER MANAGEMENT & SUPPORT
• Serve as the main point of contact for internal and external stakeholders on tax-related matters in Malaysia and Singapore.
• Collaborate with Opco and SSC functional groups and to gather information, clarify requirements, and align on tax positions.
• Liaise with external tax advisors, auditors, and tax authorities to ensure compliance and resolve queries efficiently.
• Provide clear guidance and support to non-tax colleagues, translating complex tax concepts into actionable recommendations.
• Build strong, trust-based relationships across functions to facilitate seamless tax processes and business support.
• Acting as the key point of contact for tax agents and and external auditors ensuring all queries are addressed promptly and accurately.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE :
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field; professional certification (e.g., CPA, ACCA, CTIM) preferred
• 3+ years’ experience in direct tax compliance or advisory (in-house or Big 4 preferred)
• Strong knowledge of corporate income tax, withholding tax, and transfer pricing
• Experience with ERP systems and tax reporting tools
• Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills
• Strong communication skills for cross-functional collaboration
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines and adapt to regulatory changes
