Senior Software Engineer

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will work with a small team of full-stack developers that work on all server-side aspects of HVAC home automation and security. Our mandate is very broad and includes but not limited to processing HVAC-related events, provisioning equipment, monitoring alerts, testing-automation and integrating a wide and diverse set of devices with the Alarm.com connected ecosystem. Our software development includes working on backend services, websites, and database design that make up our whole ecosystem.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will have the opportunity to work across a variety of technical areas. POSITION SUMMARY

The Hybrid Field Technician is an in-house IT professional, qualified to provide superior customer support to client needs and requests. This position requires a strong ability to troubleshoot and solve a variety of IT related issues, as well as the capability to identify challenges that may necessitate additional team support in order to best serve the client. You should have experience in a client server environment with basic conceptual network understanding. This role provides first call response and resolution to clients consistent with the customer’s SLA’s. Support on a variety of desktops, systems, applications, networks, and mobile devices is in-line with the demands of this role. The schedule for this position is M-F 9AM-6PM EST. The salary for this position is $60,000-$70,000.

THIS ROLE REQUIRES CLIENT SITE VISITS IN THE EASTHAMPTON, MA REGION. THEREFORE, REQUIRES FLEXIBILITY FOR DISPATCH AS NEEDED. YOU MUST HAVE A VALID ID AND RELIABLE MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide Level Il technical support via phone and email to clients
• Handle first call resolution while building strong customer relationships
• Efficiently analyze, diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve technical issues at desktop, server, and network level – or engage further resources if needed
• Ensure that IT network is being maintained to satisfy client requirements including monitoring of system performance and identification of system enhancements
• Update security programs and administer password changes to prevent unauthorized access to privileged data and information
• Administer system back-up and restoration processes

Your Impact 

As an Infrastructure Architect, you will be responsible for the technical direction, architectural integrity, and operational maturity of Axon’s core infrastructure platforms. This includes ownership of our virtualization environments, storage platforms, cloud infrastructure (Azure and AWS), database services, and foundational platform services that support both corporate IT and product-facing teams.

You will act as the senior technical authority for infrastructure architecture—making design decisions, setting standards, and guiding execution—while remaining hands-on where it matters most. We will depend on your strong systems architecture design experience to offer insight into technical decision-making in building our products from the ground up. What You’ll Do 

If you were a part of our team, here are some things you would have done last week:  

• Spent time working with a Product Manager to understand requirements for a new feature
• Building features using popular technologies including but not limited to: Java, SQL, Redis, and Elasticsearch; 
• Participate in on-call rotation and strive to continuously improve Mark43's customer experience. 
• End to end technical ownership of a product or subset of a product 
• Improve architectural strategy of a front-end or backend area of the product to meet higher velocity needs created by our growing customer base.  
• Reviewed code submitted by other software engineers, and submitted your own code for review as part of our pull-request deployment process 
• Spent time meeting with a Product Designer to explain technical constraints for a specific feature 
• Collaborating with design and product teams to understand and document feature requirements 
• Written clear, concise technical documentation to accompany your code that your teammates will trust 
• Spent time testing out a new technology or taking part in a discussion on ways to improve our code base and engineering practices  
• Nurturing an engineering culture that cares deeply about the quality of the code we write, while still working quickly to bring our technology to as many departments as possible 

What You’ll Need 

We are seeking engineers with at least 6 years of professional experience using Java, .NET, or other server side languages in production. You should be comfortable utilizing agile development and thoroughly testing your own code. Our codebase is large and complex, so we expect you to write clear, concise code and intuitive documentation to help other engineers understand your contributions. Experience developing features built for the cloud, as well as the ability to delve into the front end stack (Javascript, ReactJS) is a big plus! 

• Deep understanding of databases, automated testing, Agile methodologies 
• Proficiency building and managing RESTful APIs 
• Strong DevOps experience and be able to manage a product in the Cloud 
• Deep experience designing and building out infrastructure for complex cloud-based software applications, preferably hosted in AWS or Azure 
• Proven experience in building for scale in a B2B environment 
• Knowledge of or prior experience with microservices architecture 
• Commitment to providing support for more junior members of the team and developing cooperative working relationships 
• Leaning in to contribute to the company outside your role - our engineers have written blog posts, attended events, and helped grow our team 
• Experience in building low-code platform is a huge plus

We feel passionately about equal pay for equal work, and transparency in compensation is one vehicle to achieve that. Total compensation for this role is market competitive, including a target base annual salary range of $170,000- $210,000, plus bonus opportunity, company stock options, and a full benefits package, including health insurance, paid time off, and a 401k plan. Please be aware that a candidates experience level and geographic location will be used to determine a competitive base salary. The higher end of this range is applicable to experienced candidates in the New York metro and Bay Area.
