POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general direction of the Service Manager, with little or no supervision, the Tech 2 shall perform highly skilled work in the repairing, reconditioning, testing, and adjusting of all equipment sold by Hawthorne.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Removes, installs, reconditions, and repairs engines. Makes necessary adjustments on the engines and to the components in the various systems, such as water pumps, fuel pumps, turbochargers, generators, compressors, coolers, carburetors, and cylinder heads.
2. Performs diagnostic tests on engines for lack of power, inability and hard to start, misfiring, overheating, excessive oil consumption, and basic tests on charging system.
3. Removes, installs, and makes repairs and necessary adjustments on the various power train components such as torque converters, torque dividers, direct drive transmissions, power shift transmissions, oil and dry clutches, steering clutches, and brakes, final drives, differentials, transfer cases, gear boxes, and undercarriages.
4. Performs diagnostic tests on power train components for overheating, operational pressure checks, and slippage.
5. Removes, installs, reconditions, repairs, and makes necessary adjustments on the various hydraulic controls and components such as cylinders, pumps, valves, and hydraulic attachments.
6. Performs diagnostic tests on hydraulic systems for operational pressures and flow check.
7. Must be able to meet flat rate as established by Caterpillar and industry standards.
8. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

1. Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
2. Must have a valid Drivers License with a good driving record.
3. Must have PC skills.
4. Must be forklift certified or able to be certified within 60 days.
5. Must own hand tools that are suitable to perform the work noted above.
6. At least 5 years of experience preferred.

Job Title:            Tech Trainee 1

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general direction of more skilled technicians, the Tech Trainee 1 primarily performs helper duties for employees in the Service Department. The Tech Trainee 1 may at times perform unskilled or semiskilled duties in assigned areas. The Tech Trainee 1 will remain in the Trainee 1 classification for a minimum period of 1 year. During this period, the Tech Trainee 1 will attend all assigned training classes and obtain passing grades.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Disassembles, cleans, and reassembles Caterpillar, allied product machines, and Ag& Turf and industrial products serviced by the Service Department.
2. Measures and identifies parts and components for reusability or replacement, ordering new parts as required.
3. Performs all requirements found in Caterpillar and other allied lubrication and maintenance and warranty guidelines.
4. Attends training classes as directed and obtains passing grades.
5. Completes Service Reports in a timely manner and in accordance with HPC standards.
6. Travel as required within HPC established territory.
7. Operates HPC service vehicles.
8. Adheres strictly to HPC safety, housekeeping, credit, and other rules, policies, and procedures.
9. Maintains a favorable business relationship with customers, suppliers, and personnel from other HPC departments.

Job Title:            Service Supervisor

Reports to:        Hawaii Island Branch Operations Manager

FLSA Status:      Exempt

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Hawaii Island Branch Operations Manager, the Service Supervisor accomplishes the departmental goals by developing parts sales and service opportunities with new customers, as well as maximizing sales with existing customers. The Service Supervisor ensures the successful daily operations of the branch.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Ensures successful operations of daily branch responsibilities by daily review of all timecards and service reports, daily work in progress (WIP) review, and reviewing work orders prior to closing.
2. Maintains records by recording problems and corrective actions planned and completing service reports and SIMS.
3. Assists with managing costs by identifying work orders that are higher than the estimated or quoted cost and reviewing the work schedule to update WIP priorities, segments, parts, deliveries, and completion deadline. Implements methods of payment by identifying credit status and obtaining approval for credit, if necessary.
4. Inputs data to computer by compiling and sorting information, establishing entry priorities, and completing input.
5. Maintains customer satisfaction by establishing rapport with customers and others in a position to help meet customer needs.
6. Assists with the preparation of machinery service by answering phones and data processing.
7. Maintains technicians’ payroll information by ensuring technicians’ repair description is correctly captured.
8. Prepares work orders by inputting data, contacting customers for purchase order numbers, obtaining credit approval if needed, collecting payment for cash jobs, and making copies for files.
9. Prepares vendor statements for approval by reviewing, researching unpaid invoices, and requesting for copies of outstanding invoices from vendors.
10. Prepares invoices for payment by verifying amounts, selecting account numbers, and making copies for files.
11. Maintains quality service by following organization standards.
12. Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and reviewing publications.
13. Supports cross departmental operations within the branch (Service, Sales, Rental, Parts).
14. Identifies and coordinates facility needs to include maintenance, repairs, improvements, and safety compliance.
15. Upon return of equipment, checks for damage and coordinates with service for fueling, repairs, etc.
16. Knowledgeable of Hawthorne Rent It Service processes, systems, and equipment.

19. Provides Ownership of Service and Branch Excellence Metrics for the branch.

23. Ensures all service work is quoted and approved and proactively communicated to the customer.

Job Title:            PDR Specialist

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Service Manager, the PDR Specialist monitors, coordinates, and performs duties related to the rental and sales inventory. The PDR Specialist maintains trucks and equipment, cleans, pressure washes trucks and equipment, performs minor repairs and basic preventative maintenance for all manufacturers, maintains the rental yard, and demonstrates trucks and equipment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Checks and prepares all incoming and outgoing Sales and Rental trucks and equipment.
2. Submits work orders for repair or maintenance of all trucks and equipment.
3. Maintains service and repair files on all sales and rental trucks and equipment.
4. Keeps the yard clean and organized.
5. Maintains all rental trucks and equipment. Washes, fuels, performs basic preventative maintenance per manufacturer’s specifications (240hr or first service only).
6. Performs the following minor repairs:
   • Minimal repairs to electrical components, limited to replacement of fixtures, bulbs, fuses, and belts.
   • Minimal repairs to chassis components, limited to replacement of brackets, buckets, and other attachments.
   • Minimal repairs to engine components, limited to replacement of oil filler caps, breather hoses, and dip sticks.
   • All major repairs will be conducted and performed in the main repair shop.
7. Demonstrates the safe and proper use of all trucks and equipment to customers.
8. Reports to and assists the Service Manager.
9. Completes all other duties as requested.

Job Title:           Technical Services Support Admin Intern

Reports to:        Technical Services Manager

POSITION SUMMARY:   Under direct supervision of the Technical Services Manager, this position exists to assist the Technical Services Manager as a liaison between the dealership and CAT®. The incumbent will work in support of the Technical Services Manager to communicate with Caterpillar® and relay any pertinent information as needed to the dealership and the customers. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Working under the direction of HPC Technical Services Manager, (TSM) keeps personnel informed of the latest updates from CAT® by maintaining a Technical Library and distributing technical information within HPC.
2. Assists TSM in accurately providing timely information to Sales, Parts, and Service by meeting customer needs and minimizing or eliminating startup and operating problems, reducing rework, and verify any complaints by comparing operation with normal or specified operation.
3. Assists TSM in administering the appropriate Sales and Service literature by identifying application zone and describing critical factors and recommendations to factory or user as needed.
4. Assists TSM to determine cause of wear, failure, reusability, and salvage methods on worn or failed parts.
5. Assists with conducting inspections and generating reports of deficiencies for user or for factory.
6. Assists TSM with measuring scheduled oil sampling results and makes recommendations to user as needed.
7. Takes into consideration Dealer and factory liability when reporting and investigating an accident in support of TSM.
8. Assists TSM in administering and maintaining ongoing log of product problems and actions that were needed to resolve.
9. Provides technical assistance for the internal HPC employees.
10. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
11. Works safely at all times and follows HPC safety policies, procedures and practices.
12. Performs all other duties as assigned by management.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

1. Must have a high school diploma or have passed a GED test or can provide verification of all formal classroom study or hands on experience related to heavy equipment repairs.
2. Enrollment in an accredited 2-4 year Post Secondary Technical Education Program, with a minimum of one semester completed.
3. AA degree from a trade school preferred.
4. Must have a valid Hawaii “Class 3” Driver’s License with a good driving record.
5. Must have working knowledge of Word, Excel and Microsoft Office Suite.
6. Demonstrate excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
